    Great exposure, love the 100D look. great eye for details, that's for sure. There seem to be a focus issue throughout your Bolex videos. It's exacerbated further when watched on a larger screen than that of an I-phone. Your videos shot with the Keystone A-12 camera look a lot sharper and in focus, almost on par or even better that the ones you filmed with the Arri. It goes to show that fancier/more expensive brands don't necessarily mean better. Love your documenting daily life in Japan. Thanks for sharing your art and vision with the rest of us.

    • @paulcotto
      @paulcotto 3 дня назад

      This is shot in the DS8 Super8 format and stretched 1.5 times horizontally due the anamorphic adapter. I used a non focusing adapter so it’s a little soft. The keystone A12 is 16mm in its native 4:3 aspect ratio. I Also used a switar non rx lens on on the A12 . 16mm will always be sharper than 8mm also when you see super8 film the usually include the sprocket hole which compresses the image to fit the frame making it appear sharper by comparison.

    Hi I stumbled across your video d scribing this Elmo system for sound synchronisation. I have a similar system manufactured by the Japanese company Chinon. As you say following the demise of super 8 sound cartridges we find ourselves looking again to these old synchronisation Systems. It can prove challenging to acquire all the required components of such a system...like you it took me several years to track down the components of my Chinon system. Thankfully I managed to find the special cable to connect camera and tape recorder.....I didn't have to make my own as you did... congratulations on that achievement. Great to watch your video on this topic of super 8 synced sound.

    This is what I remember about the ingenius methods used to sync sound to striped film there where synchronisers here in the UK one called the syncrodeck made by Craven electronics another was the Carol Sync sound a box you had to modify your projector using a mercury switch to get it to run with a reel to reel recorder you can find them in old Movie Maker magazeens not forgetting Full Coat magnetic Super 8 Film

    It is fascinating to me that you have working components of this Elmo system. The amount of technology and effort needed to create visuals with accompanying sound, just prior to sound striped super 8mm film, and/or concurrent with early video just boggles the mind. Thanks for this!

    The Bolex H16 El can run for up to how many seconds? From what I understand the normal H16 series can only do up to 30 seconds. but in this case like a model H16 EL how much would it be?

    Love this! I also have an H8 reflex model modified for DS8. I enjoy my H16 models, but the extended length of a 100’ spool of DS8 is much more economical. I recently stocked up on some DS8 film, but not the 400’ roll from pro8mm as $420 was out of my range. I’m guessing that you and I have similar collections, but your modifications are great!
