    The plug in lens has an automated iris that adjusts itself to the average picture level automatically. It would also provide power for a motorized zoom feature.
    The optical viewfinder may have a VCR record, low light, and low battery indicator lamps that may not work without the appropriate VCR.
    The IR cut filter is not necessarily needed, but if you in the vicinity of a strong IR source, it may upset the color. Might be a cool effect. But, probably not.
    The green artefacts seem to occur when you quickly move the camera around. This is because the signal developed by the striped filters is changing while it is being processed. Those systems only work well on stationary or slow moving subjects. That they work at all is miraculous.
    The 14 pin jack is called a CCJ (I believe, if my old memory isn't failing me too much...)
