I just bought a sago palm today! She looks like shes been overwatered, now that i see your video. Whenever i get ANY new plant i immediately come to your channel! You're the best
I think you might need a drill 😅 as soon as I saw you about to hit it with the hammer I was like welp that’s toast 😂😂😂😂 unless the pot is plastic you gotta use a hollow drill bit
I think with enough patience really any drill bit could work, it’s just using too much force or speed that’ll guarantee it breaks, but if you have like 10 minutes to slowly drill through it it should hopefully be fine
@@thetwistedsamurai I’m pretty sure it needs to be done in the center- it looks like she was off to the side a fair bit which is likely what caused it to break because it didn’t have an equal amount of pressure and force on the pot when she was making the hole. Which sucks because it was a really cute pot too:( But otherwise it should work with that amount of water and if it’s ceramic.
Great job on the rescue! It definitely is lucky to have had you😊 we have these growing everywhere in Houston, and they get to be HUGE with cute little babies on the sides. Can’t wait for you to update us with this little guys transformation!
I have the most resilient sago EVER! I got her out of a pile of cuttings and other plant bits, she had been dug up whole and tossed aside. I took her home in an empty pot I happened to have in the back of my car and I sat it out in my front yard. I got busy with life and about a month later I realized that I had never thrown any soil in the pot when I got it home. At the time I only had a little so I put what I had in there and planned to get more in the next day or two. That was about a year ago and I forgot until I just seen this that I never did put any more in it. It's growing like crazy. Big and beautiful. Hardly any soil. I haven't cut it back or done anything with it.
I bought one that looked just like that on super discount from Sam’s Club. I was patting myself on the back for scoring a beautiful faux palm for my apartment (I am a plant killer)…a month later I’m asking myself ‘wasn’t that palm all green when I bought it?’ Another couple weeks and I realize this yellow palm is ALIVE and DYING!!! I gave it to a friend and she rescued it and it lives happily in her home now 😊 I didn’t know it was a sago, and I didn’t know it was toxic to humans and pets. I’ll tell her right away, thanks so much for this video!
Loveeee my Sago palm!! I keep it at work because it has these bright huge windows, and also because it’s toxic for my 2 year old daughter & cat! My mom has 2 at her house, and i snipped off all the branches because it was dying, they grew back pretty fast!! Good luck!
I love sago palms. My mom has two well established ones in her front and backyard, although there used to be three. And they're both actually bigger than me.
if you decide to get a drill to put holes into pots in the future make sure it’s a masonry bit and make sure you’re spraying water while you drill, super fast and easy when you get the hang of it
I learned something. Sagos are toxic to all the things😂. I like your personality. You make this more enjoyable. Just between me and you...I get that silly and excited about plants too. 😁Definitely subscribing.
You've inspired me. My office has dozens of rescue plants now. I wish more people to abandon plants to my care. Coworker is leaving, she got like 4 orchids, and several Christmas plants as going away gifts. The poinsettias were painted with glitter, I was so upset. A cactus had no pot, just in the basket in a bag. She admits she's terrible with plants. Kinda hope she doesn't want the trouble.
I am so happy you made this little short video haha. I used a plant app and did exactly what you did. I also did some googling, I know sacrilege lol. But all the while I am trimming off the dead fronds and getting her into the soil she should be in after I dug through her roots, I thought of you the plant whisperer haha.
@PlantswithKrystal do you have an update on how this guy has progressed? I have a sago that leaves turned yellow and I’m not sure if it’s dead but I’ve been hesitant to cut the old fronds off partially because I know they are so toxic but also because I’m not sure chopping all the old dead off will help revive it or not. Been googling lots but not sure if I should give up on mine yet or not. Very curious to hear about how yours progressed if you don’t mind an update and get the time! 🥰😇 I love all of your videos and your individuality!! Keep being your authentic self it’s so refreshing to see someone so real and not give a rip! 🖤🖤
Oh my god we have a full grown one of those in our front yard. I didnt know they were toxic. We used to play with the leaves and poke each other with them all the time. Crazy the things you learn
I often make holes in my own pots. take a pair of scissors you dont mind dulling and slowly twist it like a drill. being slow while applying constant light pressure will keep the pot from breaking while also making progress. it might take an hour or two but you save cute little pots like that!
I got tons of those cute little sago cycads from Walmart for free! I befriended the guy in charge of the garden center at Walmart and now he lets me take a box of the write off plants that are supposed to be thrown away every time I come in late in the day. I cannot have the pots as they count those to know what they’ve thrown out but other than that it’s a free for all. Even got a citrus tree!
Thank you for the PSA about Sago Palms and other cycads being really poisonous to pets. Similarly, true lilies are really toxic to cats and even just a small amount of ingestion can cause severe kidney disease and possibly death.

You had it right with the submerging it in water so it dosent break, it's just that first, you just heat it up as much as you can, then use a screwdriver to just slightly dent it, then put it in the water and keep hitting it lightly to medium pressure. It will take like 10 mins but it'll work.

This is me.! Saving all the plants with too small of pots and no drainage for a discounted price! And somehow nobody can figure out while it’s dying and they think you are a magician for simply giving it a decent pot and soil. People are just really that bad with plants lol
It always bothers me when they want to charge you for something they were two days away from throwing in the dumpster. I worked at a place where we would give struggling plants away to regulars or take home ourselves.
I have one of these and the leaves are beginning to turn yellow and harden in the middle of each “stem”. Do you have an update of what it looks like now? It was a gift that means a lot to me so I’m trying to save it but don’t know how.
I gotta see the follow up on this one! Hey, if a plant's leaf tips start turning brown and crispy...no yellowing...is this a sign of underwatering? Yellowing and crisping leaves on a pothos you forget to water so maybe gets water 1-2 times a month...underwatering? I need you to come to my house and help me help my plants. I haven't lost any yet, but they aren't really growing and some of them look really sad. I have orchids that all but one the leaves look great, even though the blooms have been gone for a while now, but one of them all the leaves are turning yellow and shriveled...the roots still look good and it's putting on new growth off of one of the old bud stems, but it doesn't have any leaves that look healthy! Ahh! What do I do????
I'm like "is that the pot she broke?"
Same lmao I was like “I know how this ends” 😂
Yep
Yup
🤣 I laughed so hard. The confidence of "Yea I'm just gonna...break the pot"
Thank you so much for saying how toxic they are a lot of folks forget to mention that during these types of videos ❤️
I love taking home sick plants, but I don't know how to rescue them. I call it hospice care 😌

It’s literally an ancient method to put holes in ceramic and pottery, though. I don’t understand why it didn’t work. Maybe not enough water…?

Krystal, you are so cute and funny! I love plants, and I always learn something to help me with them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!❤❤❤
Sorry for your pot, but you could do Kintsugi with it. It'll be so pretty!
Especially now you can buy kintsugi-look glue/epoxy as to not worry about metal in your plant pots
@@bonnie1303 gold isn't toxic, I'd be more concerned about the chemicals from the expoxies lol.

I used to have one outside , I never knew they were toxic to animals. Thanks for sharing !
Only if ingested. You can touch the plant just fine, although it is spiky

If you stuff a towel into the pot and then try that under water tapping thing, i feel your results might be better

Get a diamond tip drill bit. Use some water as a lubricant when drilling and you'll make quick work of those pots!
I will! I had one and it broke a while back
Submerged should work if you get all the air out it. So put it in a big container of water, when you flip it make sure no air gets in it.
I did not know Sago Pals are toxic
I can't believe that they even charged you $7.50 for the state that plant was in. I would have thought maybe 10%-20% of the original price.
As soon as she said "I don't have a ceramic drill bit" I know the way this was going 😥 lol welp

In Indonesia, sago palms are also used for alternative herbal remedy. Freshly-picked or dried leaflets, seeds, and roots of sago palms can be used to treat some of the following diseases (with the instructions of use).
High Blood Pressure And Pulmonary Tuberculosis With A Bloody Cough
Boil 13 grams of sago palm leaves or 10-15 grams of its seeds with 4 cups of water. Drink this brewed water twice a day, one glass each.
Dysentery
Mix 15 drops of sago palm sap, 1 tablespoon of honey, and ¼ cup of boiled water, then stir evenly. Drink the mixture twice a day in the morning and evening.
Cancer
Boil 13 grams of dried sago palm leaves with 2 cups of water. Drink the brewed water twice a day, ½ cup each.
