Obviously lighter weight slugs will be in order, but are there any you'd recommend over another for a non-slug liner barrel?

    Thanks for the video. I subscribed. I’m not sure I understand, did you change barrel for this test? I thought you were going to use a standard barrel all through the test.
    What would be interesting is to do the same test at say 50 yards, 100 yards and 150 yards and see what happens in terms of accuracy and penetration/energy on the target.

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  2 года назад +1

      You might be 100% correct here, "normal" barrels are aggresively grooved, slowing down the slug even more and making rifling marks on the slug, with the STX barrels there is almost nothing "gripping " the slug, no barrel rifling and it keeps the speed better.

      At that low velocity it doesn't flatten the whole slug, but the expansion is good enough with the soft lead. Some manufacturers use harder lead, I know H&N used to use hard lead and the slugs didn't expand so good at any speed. If I am correct there Mk II slugs did see a change in lead, they did however change the hollow point that assists in expansion.

    Unfortunately, yet again I see another test that is flawed ! Judging how slow a slug can go based on group size isn’t a test ! Seeing how slow a slug can go should be done using high speed cameras (See the slow mo guys) simply to see if they fly straight at slower and slower velocities and using various barrel twist rates. Then when the slowest speed has been found, tune the gun for the lowest extreme spread and standard deviation, then properly tune barrel harmonics with something like the new FX barrel tuner and see how they group ! Then and only then will you know just how slow slugs can be shot and the lowest power level they can be successfully shot ! So go and do it again, properly this time !

    • @dominicnoon
      @dominicnoon Год назад

      Flawed? Hardly. It’s a test to see how slow. What is the relevance / rationale of slow motion if the groups are that tight? It’s not going to tell you anything until you decide on a speed and then start to fine tune, which is not the point of this video. For a basic test, mission accomplished.
