I just bought one for traveling to Asia next month, and I am pleased with how roomy it is. Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I hope the luggage sleeve will work well when the bag is fully loaded! The bag height is 2.8 inches longer than what Japan Airlines allows for a personal item backpack, but the other two dimensions are within range, so I hope I will be allowed as a personal item.
Awesome. Love the changes they have made, I really like my 2 Black Hole packs now. Very clever and smart with that loop on back panel to be able to slide it over a luggage handle - great addition. Especially thanks for showing us how it looks/carries, esp with all of that weight - pretty awesome!
I think you're overlooking one super positive about the shiny TPU coating is it is much easier to clean then a math surface and when you use a Patagonia backpack you're probably going to use it hiking so mud tree sap those kinds of things aren't going to be as easy to clean off of that matte finish. I carry a 32 L orange shiny Black Hole backpack and have for many years I've made some modifications to mine to make it a little more organizer friendly so it's not just a big empty sack I don't think the addition of one pocket on the face of the bag really makes that much difference for organization you could do more inside a better organization. Think I'll stick to my old school shiny backpack I don't think that the matte finish is going to be the way to go
Great insight. You can probably score sone good deals on the shiny version. For what it’s worth, we have used the heck out of this pack and not found it any harder to keep clean. It still has the DWR coating, which I feel like is also a descent stain repellent. Just my observation.
oooh love the colour and the matt appearance. I always wondered what those tiny loops in a line are for. I wonder what else people use them for or even better what Patagonia expect people to use them for
Great review. I bought the 25L version today, the new material is really nice and looks sturdy. The backpack saw a price jump of 30 eur which was a bummer, but it didn’t stop me from buying it because I was honestly sold right away when I got my hands on the pack.
Very interesting update… looking forward to seeing it in person. I’m a little thrown off by the placement of the main grab handle, sitting right above the zipper line. Looks to sag a little extra when picking up because of the placement. Has that caused you any problems at all?
Hello! Good eyes on that. I have not had any problems with the handle placement. Though I do notice some sag when the bag is not full. But that happens to a lot of backpacks that I have used. Hope you get eyes on it in person and see if it is a good match for you!
Thanks for this video review. How would you say the measurements/dimensions compare to the older version. Would this fit more comfortably under a plane seat?
@@Engearment it's unfortunate. The new matt finish is great but they removed features from the bag which feels like cost cutting. The hydration port and tablet slot doesn't add any bulk or get in the way even if you don't use it. I personally carry a laptop + tablet quite often.
I really like the pocket distribution of this. Hope I didn't miss it, but what's the height of the backpack? (And do you know whether it'll come out in other colours as well?)
Hey Sean, thanks so much for the video, you inform me of everything I need to know! I’m hoping to grab one for the start of university; Do you know when in fall it would be released?
I have this backpack and I think it is not as good as people say. First of all, considering the price I think it should have a lumbar support. Secondly, I miss some internal organization. In this sens I think the Refugio backpack is far superior. Additionally, I think it has a very poor padding. TNF backpacks offer a much better back support.
Thank you! Great question. After using it daily for over a month, I did not notice any additional dirt acquisition. The PU surface seems to be very similar in durability and scuff resistance of the shinny material. I gave the pack to a friend who runs a landscaping business. So it’s going to be in some literally dirty daily situations. Keep you posted on that!
@@Engearment Also it would be interesting to share a photo or a short video with the two versions (shinny and matte) next to each other in order to see the differences on how it looks!🙃
Hey One more question. So the new material will be the same or similar to the black hole MLC back pack? Black hole MLC pack has the matte fabric as well. What is your thought?
I have been think about getting a black hole 25L recently until I saw this video! The new updates seem to check all the things that I’m a little skeptical with the current version. Do you happen to know when this will be available? Can’t wait to get it when it releases!
Absolutely! They really did a great job with this line up. Fall 2023. Perhaps October 1. I will double check with them and if it is sooner, I will let you know!
Good question. I think that might be pushing it. Depending on the placement on the sternum strap. I don’t think the shoulder straps would be an issue though.
How did you get this pack so early? I contacted patagonia and they confirmed it will be released in Aug 1st. Btw have you seen the black one as well? Do you like the new matte fabric more than the current shiny one? I want to see how the matte black will look compared to the shiny black fabric. So the main difference between two is the fabric and the handle on the backside right?
We have a very good relationship with Patagonia and test gear out for them ahead of release. Really stoked to work with them! I have lots of Black Hole bags and packs and love them. I am quite used to the shiny fabric. But the Matte is even better. Yes, the main difference is the new material and handle.

apparently Toronto has them in store already
@@benjaminbach That's awesome! Gotta check out the nearby stores here then. Thanks!
Have any of your black hole bags faced the delamination / flaking issue ? Hopefully this new finish fixes that.
Thanks for this video review. How would you say the measurements/dimensions compare to the older version. Would this fit more comfortably under a plane seat?
You forgot to mentioned that the new one removed the dedicated tablet slot, leaving only the laptop, and also removed the hydration hole.
Thank you for mentioning those things. I have never used the hydration port so I would never have thought to include that in the review.

Oh ya! I believe the entire black hole lineup is getting updated. I will double check my notes to be sure.
I really like the pocket distribution of this. Hope I didn't miss it, but what's the height of the backpack? (And do you know whether it'll come out in other colours as well?)
I think there will be more color as well

Black, Lue, periwinkle, green (in this video)red and tan

No

when is the release date??
August 1

October 1. Perhaps sooner. Take care!

Yes.
I wish it had a hip belt.
