Watch PART 2! The link is in the description. Oil pan goes back together with some cool music. So grab your favorite beverage, your favorite smoke, sit back and enjoy Part 2!
Giving me some confidence I can do this even if it takes a couple weekends on jackstands. I just need to get the tools and fluids lined up. Thanks for the great video and details
Technically yes, because almost everything came apart, but the tie rods weren’t disturbed so you could go a bit without one. I recommend you do. As I got this BMW aligned the next day. Thanks for your support! 👊🏼
Honestly you don’t have to because we never disturbed the tie rods, but we do align it every time we do one. It’s good practice and a complete service. Thanks! 👊🏼
Hey ! Job looks great so far didn’t realize how much was involved. Can you tell how much the job cost to do ? My oil pan is cracked and has to be replaced.
Do you have to remove the Axle nut and pull the CV Axle from the steering knuckle? Couldn't you just leave that part out and remove it from the diff for each Cv axle?
Yes. You have to remove the nut and pull the axle out from the spindle. You can’t leave it attached at the spindle and attempt to pull the axles from the diff. There’s not enough room to drop the subframe, leave the axles attached and expect to remove them from the diff. Even if you could barely do that, the reinstall would a friggin nightmare. It’s easier to pull the axles, and it’s the right way. Thanks for the comment! Hope you’re subscribed.
It’s an inverted Torx. I’m using an E10 or E12 inverted Torx socket. I don’t remember which lol. You’ll need a good set of Torx sockets. E sockets and T sockets.
Super video! Planning on trying to tackle my 2012 335i xdrive oil pan gasket here soon. Doing it on jack stands might be a little more uncomfortable lol. I think I have all the parts necessary, but i need to order the front differential o ring. Does it take a whole 1 liter bottle for the front diff? I was going to do front and read and got a liter of liqui moly 75w90 on fcp euro.
When I bought my bmw 328xi 07 it never came with this hook I looked for it everywhere but can’t find it. I need to do this job also the question I have for you, is on fcp euro this is called the towing eye hook and you say this is also used to hold the engine up ? Is this the right part that I’m looking at ?? Much thanks brother man. Edit upon further research this is the tool that I need for the job ! cheers man video is very helpful as I’m no master but love to learn these things around my bmws
That’s great. I’m so glad I could be of help! And yes the tow hook is the correct part intended for towing and holding up the engine. If you have an owner’s manual, it tells you were it’s stored. You probably now this already… it’s in that plastic storage/pocket/cover on the right rear corner of the trunk. Above were the battery sits. There is a false bottom on that cover/storage assembly. It’s in there. Did you look there? Anyway thanks for the great comment. You’ll knock out that pan gasket, no problem. Take care & good luck. Hope you’re subscribed!
I used my carbide scraper, brake clean and rags. If you’re going to use a carbide scraper, be careful and easy. They will cut and gouge aluminum if you’re not careful.
They ought to make the assholes that design these cars to do the job so they know how much trouble it is to change a simple gasket. Think I'll sell my 2002 330 ci after watching this. Hahahahaha. How much did it cost the customer?
This is part of the BMW modus operandi, sell the car for 45k and generate another 20/30k in repairs and parts. A real loser company! Go with a winner, go Toyota!
Well, everything I showed is basically what is involved in doing this job. If you’re mechanically inclined you should get through it. Also I’m new to this Filming thing. I will get better at the smaller details. If you have any questions on the procedures, I’ll try to to answer them here… Thanks for the comment.
You are correct on the mechanically inclined. The piece that got me was the coolant pipe across the front. Didn’t realize it was plastic and broke it getting the drivers side bolt out. My bad. Keep up the good work, at least you are willing to share your knowledge

Just did this to my 2010 328i three weeks ago thank goodness for these mechanic videos, saved me tons of money.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it was helpful.
Please subscribe if you haven’t already. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks again!
Seeing how much more work to do on an X BMW (AWD) to do an oil sump drop etc, I’m happy I got a non-X E90/N52!
Thank you for showing your work!
Lol.. it was my pleasure. Thanks for your wonderful comment.

You can do it!
Thank you for this! I got to do this all here soon. My front driveshaft exploded and my oil pan exploded along with it. lol
That happened to me 2 days ago. Shitty design
Will I need a wheel alignment after this job?
Technically yes, because almost everything came apart, but the tie rods weren’t disturbed so you could go a bit without one. I recommend you do. As I got this BMW aligned the next day.
Thanks for your support! 👊🏼
Do you have to align it after taking all that suspension stuff off?
Honestly you don’t have to because we never disturbed the tie rods, but we do align it every time we do one. It’s good practice and a complete service.
Thanks! 👊🏼
Hey ! Job looks great so far didn’t realize how much was involved. Can you tell how much the job cost to do ? My oil pan is cracked and has to be replaced.
Yeah.. it cost the customer roughly 1300 bucks, gasket and labor. Expect more with the additional oil pan.
Hope you’re subscribed. Thanks! 👊🏼
Thanks. Just what I was looking for 👍
I really hope you have more BMW videos.
Like the G series X7s and more e90s

What kind of bolt is that on the drive shaft? Will a star socket work? Im coming from Japanize cars and trucks
It’s an inverted Torx. I’m using an E10 or E12 inverted Torx socket. I don’t remember which lol. You’ll need a good set of Torx sockets. E sockets and T sockets.
Hello, did you have to remove the power steering pump from the oil pan as well?
No. The power steering pump doesn’t get removed.
That process is necessary on N54/N55 335i models.

I believe you’ll need a quart for the front diff and better get 2 for the rear.
Good luck my friend!
very simple job, and not expensive,
I will do it when waiting at kost ko

What did you use to clean the bottom of the block in part 2?
I used my carbide scraper, brake clean and rags. If you’re going to use a carbide scraper, be careful and easy. They will cut and gouge aluminum if you’re not careful.
What is the hours of labour for this job??
Sorry for the late response,
It’s 10 hours labor. Hope you’re subscribed! Thanks for the comment.

Damm. Agreed totally, you have to removed all this for a gasket replacement.. what a genius German engineer 😢, I ll sell the bmw and get a asian car
Not a bad idea!

Ohhh ok
Being a professional mechanic - BMW is #1 I hate.
Ho chief,
I love the joke. Lmao. “The most important tool.”
Isn’t it easier to disassemble the arms from the subframe?
lol.. thanks. No. It’s the easiest to do it the way I showed you.
I believe I can do it even though it's a hassle.
You can do this. Right hand tools, common sense and a little bit of knowledge. Good luck!
