I had a Northgate 8088 computer that I purchased in 1987 and I still have it today. I got rid of the monitor but I kept the computer (70 mb hard drive) and a floppy drive. It was DOS based and I ran a spreadsheet, wordprocessor, and inter-office communications on it from 1988 up until 1992. It was the amber monitor version. I also have the original keyboard which I used until about 2 years ago when I upgraded to an Adesso mechanical keyboard. I refurbished my old keyboard and it is just as good as new. I loved my original so much that I picked them up whenever I saw one in a local computer store such that I now have 9 of them and they all work great. I also picked up the adapter to go from the old round pin style to a USB. Great video. I am typing this in my office on my Adesso keyboard and the clicking is so loud that you can hear it in the breakroom next to my office.
This may be my dream ALPS keyboard. I own a Matias Mini Tactile Pro and a Dell AT101 and it seems like for real ALPS switches, I would prefer the white Alps line. The Matias Switches are freaking incredible while Black Alps are alright, if kinda underwhelming, with only their sound going for them.
I kept my Omnikey Plus from 1990. It came with my first PC - a Northgate slimline 38DX/20. After not being used since the 2000s, I wanted to start using the keyboard again. I just got it working again and typing on this thing is amazing.
Great video and great keyboard. I just got an omnikey gold badge with blue alps myself. Need to splice a new cable though, cause the original was cut. Did the dvorak keycaps come with the board itself, or did you get them somewhere else? Great purchase if you managed to get the board with those extra caps. Where did you get the based table btw? Did you just put those stickers on yourself?
Very nice restoration. I would like to do something similar. Other than bent pins, was desoldering difficult? I heard that on old keyboards PCBs solder pads detach very easily.
Gud sound but oh boi this is pingy. Without ping would be even better. Overall hollowness is nice, don't understand people stuffing too much foam in their board

How many takes did the box flip require 😂
The build turned out awesome in the end!
Potentially 15-20 takes xD
Omrikey
Lol fixed
6:01 That desoldering gun looks mighty sweet. What make or brand is it? Is it easy to remove the cold solder blobs from within it?
That should be a Hakko FR301
Hakko fr301! It's great, albeit a bit pricey. Ive never had issues with removing cold solder from the collection tube
8:26 What solvent are you using to clean the case?
Just isopropyl alcohol, nothing fancy
