I always told my youngest son I wanted this played at my funeral. Then he passed away suddenly. I play this now to celebrate him and the mission he is serving in the eternities.
My oldest brother unexpectedly passed away a few months ago. He was only 34 years old, a corrections officer. He left behind 6 children, a wife, 6 siblings, parents and countless friends and family. I stumbled upon BYU when I was looking for a version of Danny Boy for his funeral and found the BYU version and this song, both of which were played at the funeral. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing these beautiful songs, it meant so much to me and to my family during such a difficult time. Listening to it still brings me comfort. Thank you!
Beautiful music, May your brother Rest In Peace.
I too have lost two older brothers and find comfort in this. May God keep his memory close to heart for all of you and thank you for sharing his story with us all. Music for me also heals and in the legacy of us that live on a wee bit longer may we find comfort to know they have not left us but they will come home again and greet us once more where death can never again take them from us. God bless. Love Dennis. xxx
34 with 6 kids? Damn
I'm so sorry, that's a lot to go through, you'll see him soon
May your brother Rest In Peace and one day you will see him in heaven💙
I CANT STOP WATCHING THIS IT IS SOOOOO GOOOOD.
+Peter Hollens Please do a version of this yourself. PLEASE
Thanks, Peter! We're still loving the idea of collaborating with you at some point! :)
Oh My Gosh I know right! This is so fantastic! It is just so awesome and so relaxing. The voices are so amazing!😊
+BYU Vocal Point PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Do a cover on it
I lost my sister. It was sad. I've never cried like I did. Then I turned to this song and it described exactly what it felt to let her go.
She went to be with the Lord. She let go of all those burdens and she just went when we thought she'd live doing the will of God.
I won't bind her to the plow.... I've set her free.
Who ever is responsible for putting this All American Boys Choir together, really knows their business ! Master of Music / Choir
Little boys...Big boys....singing together...so great!
😂
Lead singer has one of the finest voices I've heard in a long time.
That's our man Jordan Hales! Really amazing guy! ☺
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning -
I'll be homeward bound in time
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
If you find it's me you're missing
If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening,
And in the road I'll stop and turn
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end
And the path I'll be retracing
When I'm homeward bound again
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
(softly)
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
I'll be homeward bound again.
Claudia Wilson
Claudia Wilson Thank You!!
So poetic. Why can't all songs be that way?
Thanks!
In my culture it was considered cool to reject parents and values.. but we desperately need both. Praying for my generation to turn from their own way ..
Sooooooooo, why does this music video NOT have billions of views again?
+Jacob Dunn hope ur not mormon. and this vid is pretentious. and it doesnt deserve a billion views
+Karen Darlan how in the world is it "pretentious"? It can mean anything to anyone, but the meaning I got was a missionary missing his family but knowing he'd return when His work was done. It's baffling that you got "pretentious."
+ZeldaDanielle it's about a boy that ran away. I sang it in choir last year.
+Stephanie Wesfall the song can mean anything to anyone, but someone who runs away doesn't plan to go home again. First hand experience with that.
+Stephanie Wesfall actually its about a war veteran coming home to his family
I looooove this. Reminds me of my sweet brother who passed 11 years ago. 💔
Much love to you and your family
I am part of the Boys Chorus. I joined a little while after this video was filmed, and we are doing a concert with them this month!
+Elliott Walker - Hey Elliott! We feel honored to have the opportunity to perform with you again soon! Can't wait to meet you and the rest of the new members. :)
+Elliott Walker AYYY Elliott! It's Elliot Masinsin, your friend from Chorus :)
Oh hi Elliot :)
LUCKY! I wish I could be in this choir. Just out of curiousity if you get this, where do you rehearse and how can someone audition?
Go to American Boy Choir online & contact them. Hope you see this. Good luck to you!
I’m a Veteran and today at a school the children sang this for us. Brought my to tears
This song was the last performance my grandparents saw me do before they passed away
I feel in heaven when i listen to this.
Perfect combination from kids and adults together.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us
+Dirk Martens Thank you so much, Dirk!
whats heavens address?
I totally feel ya on that one dirk:) this song brings so much joy and light to my soul.
it's address: John 14:6
Even the scenary.
The beginning sounds like a section of Jupiter by Gustav Holst, one of my favorite themes.
Mapa Mundial Good ear! If you watch this behind-the-scenes video, you'll hear McKay Crockett talk about using Jupiter in his arrangement of this song: ruclips.net/video/gfgtdvMEZ7U/видео.html
Mapa Mundial I thought it sounded a bit like Anthem to Our King
Mapa Mundial It IS that tune--The intro is commonly known as a hymn tune called "Thaxted".
Mapa Mundial The opening also kind of reminds me of I Vow to Thee My Country. Love that song too.
Same tune, Breanne.
Blonde dude has the voice of an angel 😍
I know right
Диана Севастьянова sicko
Он русский знает тоже 😂😂
I listen to this song a lot. It's so beautiful and it comforts me when I'm feeling upset. Thank you to BYU Vocal Point and the All-American Boys choir for working together to make this moving piece of music!
I remember my sister would sing this song often and now she’s in college and as soon as I heard this song it reminded me of how much I missed her I was hold back those tears
😭my sis is gone to collage too!!
Just stopping by to say that I appreciate my music teacher for giving us this beautiful song for my senior year, miss you all Mr. Bowman
We sang this in choir I literally wanna cry 😭 it’s so beautiful
My grandpa died just last year a few days before his birthday and this song was one of his favorites. A friend of his played this before his passing and sent the spirit to us. Thank you so much Byu Vocal Point for doing this. The spirit was strong and I was reminded of Grandpa.
It is everything this piece could possibly be with the human voice. It is lavish, sumptuous in harmonic sonority, beautiful haunting turns of dissonance into hopeful resolution, and the boys' voices as a soaring ostinato? Sheer aural bliss. If you are not tearful, moved, or overwhelmed after wrapping yourself in this sonic masterpiece, you, my friend, have no soul. Once again, Vocal Point, you have produced a work of art.
You hit the nail on the head. You have an excellent taste in music. Did you like the message behind the song??
absolutely
You took the words right from me

I feel like travelling in space every time I listen to this amazing songs. Feels like angels are so near. Thank you for this uplifting song.
Not sure who gave this song a thumbs down but whoever did doesn’t know good choral music and a cappella. Well sung gentlemen, beautiful rendition of an awesome song
I think these lyrics are up for individual interpretation, but I took it to be sung by someone who has just passed away and is singing to his family that he'll see them again. In other words, when he says don't bind me to the pastures and plows (the mundane labors of mortality) but let me go and find my calling (the truth, and everything that awaits me in the next life / heaven), then I'll still come back to you and I'll hear your thoughts and we'll still be close somehow, and we'll still see each other again. It's a song of comfort to those of us who have been left behind.
This makes me think of the Prodigal Son🥺❤️
This is my favorite song, and you guys sing it beautifully. I get chills every time.
I just lost my friend last night. This song has helped with that pain. I know that she's happy and not in pain anymore. I know that she's back home with her heavenly father in heaven. Thank you for this.
We're so sorry for your loss. We hope that you can continue to find solace and we want you to know that we love you. Thank you for sharing with us. ☺
Years ago, I spent a year in Georgia Children's Chorus, and we did a concert with the boys choir showcased in this video. Those boys are truly amazing vocalists. I was blown away when they performed a piece with overtones.
2021 still watching 🥰
Ah... Beautiful. I'm a part of the All American Boys Chorus, and I completed a great achievement: I invited a boy to join us. This video is what I watch every day. It reminds me of all of the soldiers that come home from a war. I wish I were a part of this video, but I wasn't in the concert chorus at that time... Though I was in the BYU concert :)
This was the piece of music I chose for my husband's funeral. It breaks my heart every time I hear it. So Beautiful.
This song meant so much for me, because as a Returned Missionary last year from the Great Texas Fort Worth Mission! 2 months before I’m done with my Mission and it was on a P-Day, I got a called from my Family on the Islands that My Mom had passed away on the night before and I was just didn’t know what to do or say. But I just kept going on with the Missionary work, and didn’t even tell my companion about it cuz I know it’s a big deal. I just try to focus on the work and keep my Mom words just to finish what I have been called to do. So 3 days later they finally informed the Mission office and the Mission President called us but this time my companion answered the phone and he got told that we need to meet up with the Mission President ASAP!. Then that’s when I let my Companion knows about it and he was so shocked and sad. But long story short I’m home now but idc about what anyone says about me and why I didn’t come home to my Mom or spend lot of time with her before she passed away. All I care and know it’s that I’ll be able to meet her one day and my Dad also. I have strong Faith in His Gospel! Peace and love from the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭!!
You did very good!
You are loved!
Beautiful testimony ❤ you are so blessed to have that tangible faith.
You made your Mama proud! She let you know the right thing to do and YOU DID IT!!!
OTHER PEOPLE'S COMMENTS ARE THEIR COMMENTS AND THAT'S ALL THEY ARE - NOT TO WORRY - STAY ON THE COVENANT PATH.
Returned from Utah Salt lake city mission. English and Spanish. Helped in Midvale, Rocks spring, Wyoming, Murray, and rose Park Utah. And returned with honor, served all 2 years. And finally got my testimony. And felt heart broken leaving, but so happy being released by my president. And being within my parents embrace.🥲🫡
And heard this song thru out the whole time.
I so understand, lost my brother to covid😥... We need you JESUS💞💓💞
Fantastic, adored this so much
Thanks so much, Caleb! We're thrilled to hear that you liked it!
BYU Vocal Point ff
I remember that this song is a piece of my high school choir's solo and ensemble contest. God, this song is undeniably beautiful :')
You watch Vocal Point? My two worlds have officially collided. My head is spinning.
WOAH ITS CALEB, WHERES CHARLIE?!
If we parents all take it serious not to bind the grownups... It is a proof of trusting them to go their way ...
We're playing this for band class, I thought it'd be like our normal songs...but it's capable of bringing tears to my eyes...
Dharmesh Mistry We have to play it too, but we are really bad so it doesnt bring tears to my eyes 😂
Anna Florness Lmao, we're in the same boat then. xD
This song is the best I have heard. My uncle recently passed away and I want to sing this for him. He was 25 and had epilepsy and lost him unexpectedly.
this song makes me think of someone who is dying and does not want you to be sad, because they’re just going back home to Heaven. “bind me not to the pasture, chain me not to the plow, set me free to find my calling, and I’ll return to you somehow.” is them saying that it is time to let them go, and not to worry because they’ll always be with you. Makes me wanna cry every time. 🥺
I cry every time I hear it, I used to tell my son to play it at my funeral. Now he’s been in heaven. 7 years. It’s a beautiful song. I know he returns to look over me when he can.
This song means so much to me I lost my grandma 4 years ago I think of her and one day I will see her again
I can't stop replaying this. Thank you for sharing.
Bored in quarantine? Listening to good jams.
Lift your voices and sing GODS GLORY💞💓💞
THE SONG AT THE BEGINNING IS HOMELAND!!! I SANG IT IN CHOIR AND IT WAS SO POWERFUL!! WHEN I RECOGNIZED IT I JUST DIEDD
This is incredible
This is one of my late brother’s favorite. He died shortly after his mission
We are so sorry for your loss, and hope this song brings you some comfort and peace 💙
SOOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My man is a long haul truck driver & is gone for extended amounts of time, he sent me this song to listen to, I miss him so much when he can't be here with me....hearing this definitely helps!
Well thanks for sharing. We're very touched when people like you share stories like that.
omg they put Holst's Jupiter in the intro I'm in love
Two wonderful choirs sing these great versions of this iconic song! I love it!
I sang this in a choir at NAU Music Camp with a young woman who I kept in touch with for a few years until I started college. We exchanged letters and always kept this song close to our hearts. We started dating, eventually married, and now, 17 years after I told her how I felt, have 2 beautiful children. This brought some tears, but of true happiness and gratitude. Thank you Vocal Point. =)
in the quiet, misty morning
when the moon has gone to bed
when the sparrows stop their singing
and the sky's clear and red
when the summers ceased its gleaming
when the corn is passed its pride
when adventure lost its ringing
I'll be homebound tonight
So beautiful. I want to sing with him! 😍
I cannot stop rewinding over and over.......I honestly can't believe I was missing. this being a fan of hiphop but i have decided to change and find my calling just as the song says
Pretty sure at least half of the views are mine. This is so gorgeous I can't stop listening to it.
ftskim Mee tooooooo
+ftskim Well then you're an ignorant kid only thinking about yourself. Go fuck yourself you selfish bitch.
+ғ̶̷̲̅ Wow. Rough day? Wanna talk about it?
ftskim I'm sorry.
Bro chill. They just liked the song
In 2012, I was sealed to my best friend and the love of my life. In Sept 2018, after I supported him through so much tribulation and even deployments, I learned he had an addiction so severe, that it was driving his actions-he was not progressing to be the person I know he can be. He filed for divorce and it shattered my heart into a million pieces. One month ago, after fighting it, I finally signed his divorce decree papers. One night, as I was bawling my eyes out and praying with so much sorrow, this song came on. The chorus caught my attention. The spirit calmed my heart and I knew God heard me and was aware of my trial. This song was Him telling me it will be OK.
I’m making this comment here as a public record-to come back when my sweet husband is whole, well, and a force for good on this earth. When, together, we will teach and help others who are experiencing the same gripping addiction.
I believe in the sealing power of the temple and I truly believe the power of the priesthood can make this song the case for my family.
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. It means so much to us and we fully believe as well that God is looking out for you. Much love. 💙 We will also pray for you!
How are you doing now in 2022 I hope your doing well and your husband is better and your remarried god bless you from Leeds England UK 🇬🇧
In... credible. I don't remember the last time a RUclips video made me cry that hard. This is beautiful beyond words. To God be the glory. Well done gentlemen... Well done.
somehow, i feel the the urge to say, "best song/performance/video....something, ever".
A truly inspired arrangement. I hear angels when all the voices crescendo at 3:07. The lyrics are a beautiful encapsulation of the purpose of our heavenly journey away from God and back to Him again. Thanks to Marta Keen for a timeless song, McKay Crockett for giving it wings, and Jordan Hale for shaping every word into transcendent beauty!
I involuntarily cried today listening to this song and I don't even know why. What an experience!
This song never left me. 🥲😊
I served in utah and a bit of wyoming. This was one of the songs in my mind in my head. Coulda sworn i heard it aloud.
I still cry in the fact i completed mine. MANY instances i said enough. I can say my most esteemed companions were 1 of my reasons to keep going.
I would like to ask the 7 people that didn't "like" this video, what was wrong with it?! This is near perfection! Excellent vid guys!
Me tooo they are sooooo really great! I'm going threw the worse time in my life at 58 the whole world in my court God is reconstructing every corner of it. And He's just showing me some of my new family due to my old family is now the passing dead. This is so renewing. Thank you
Learning the soprano part to this in choir. So fun to sing along! You guys sound awesome!
One of the best music arrangements ever, May God continue to bless thee Vocal point ❤🔥 ✅
I loved hearing McKay Crockett say the arrangement came together in his mind once he thought of the Jupiter chorale. To me, both pieces promise a beautiful future to a bittersweet present. They transform the pastoral setting from a hindrance to a sanctuary. It's a creative, moving pairing.
Jordan Hale's performance is incredible. Each "Bind me not" gives me chills.
Thanks for this video :)
Brings tears and chills every. Single. Time.
Just beautiful beyond words...
This is the song I want at my funeral.
I always think of this song as a soldier goin off to war.
Same...
What war.
No like a war, not specific...
it is about a war veteran coming home to his family
I too get that vibe, but I've also heard people say it references the Prodigal Son.
Beautiful
I'm a big fan of BYU Vocal Point!! I love your songs, your incredible musical arrangements and performance...very inspiring and touching!! I'd love to have you guys singing in Brazil!! That would be awesome.
As the world is ending this is one of the songs we will hear
I’m singing this song in my men’s choir and I am so excited to sing it
Just magical. Incredible blend. So beautiful . Thank you for posting.
These songs make it well with my soul.
breathtakingly beautiful!
Singing this song in choir right now for Spring concert. And it is SO awe inspiring and beautiful. It can make the cool, and most popular kids in school get teary and be moved by it. It's one of the most serene and peaceful piece I have to say I've ever done. It's a God given song that is sung by groups of angels sent by God to move and touch others
I love the Holst bit in the beginning.
Anyone want to put this on a loop for me so I can cry every single time the younger group comes in? It's...... it's my new favorite song
wow. this is absolutely brilliant. so magnificent! the gradual of addition of layers really adds to the emotional affects of the song. very strong soloists. i rarely ever give videos a like, but this one definitely earned a thumbs up from me. phenomenal!!
Amazing combination with two outstanding choirs. it moved me to tears, so beautiful & inspirational
Very beautiful and enjoyable.
Love the little "Jupiter" segment at the beginning. Nice touch.
This is awesome. Love the part where the boys run to the men- so heartwarming. Also, the main singer is wonderfully talented- his look reminds me of Billy Elliot.
This is simply stunning......
Going to BYU next semester and seeing BYU Vocal Point is on my bucket list.
What does buy stand for
+Shawn Li BYU stands for Brigham Young University🙂
U going to join.
makes me cry
Guys. Peter Hollens did a version of this song, and he commented on this one, saying it's so good. Do you realize how humble and perfect that is? I LOVE BOTH VERSIONS SO MUCH
One day we will all be going home
the children voices are like angels
the BYU and Soon to be Men set me still. for them and with them i shall be forever more.
Superb arrangement and performance. 👍🏼🎶
Thank you so much for the great Music gives us a little Peace Silvie
One of their best in My opinion.
This is so mesmerising
I'm singing this for solo and ensemble, this is my first year and I am pumped
