My "bride" of 41 years and I have been camping ever since we got married. Started with a pickup box shell, to a popup, travel trailers and then fifth wheels. We are now on our 7th camper. We consider ourselves pros by now, and yet we still have an "oops" now and then. We have learned over the years, just like our partnership in marriage, that when "stuff" happens to the camper we take it on as a team, just like you two do. If nothing else mishaps make for great campfire stories... As others below have said, don't beat yourself up for things that can be fixed. And Eternabond Tape is your friend and will last for years. How great it is for you at such a young age to follow you dreams and passions to be on the road together and making fantastic memories. My hats off to you both!!
@@wildrvlifeIt will be fine! Some people will edge their entire roof with Eternabond. It could have been much worse. We had 25 feet rip along the edge in a storm and then had to dry it off the next morning and use Eternabond to secure and seal it. As small as your tear, you can leave it with the Eternabond and will have no trouble.
Thank stuff is AMAZING! I did emergency patched on my roof with Eternabond tape two years ago and it still looks and holds like the first day I installed it.
Just a bit of advice, I have been driving tractor trailers for over 32 years. In watching your videos I have noticed you seem to stay in your lane when making turns. First always look ahead and be safe, and you can approach your turns and make a much wider turn. It's OK if you safely get into the other lane and make a much wider turn. You will be surprised by how much easier it is. Be safe.
We did the exact same thing. I repaired with eternabond tape and we are going on two years without any issues.I do check it on a regular basis with no problems.
We had the same thing happen to our rv except it happened in a rv park where branches weren’t trimmed well. We used roofing eternabond tape and it lasted for years. We really enjoy watching your videos. It is a highlight of our week.

If you want to conserve on the black tank when boondocking consider what we have done for years. We usually stay at our spot for 2-3 weeks. It may be gross to some, but it is what it is. We urinate in one of those his and hers plastic bottles found on Amazon. At some point we wander in the woods and away from our neighbor's we dump it. You will be surprised how much it cuts down on the black tank from filling. We also have a small bucket in the shower and catch the excess water when bringing the water up to temp. We then use this water for flushing the toilet when needed.
My husband says that people definitely should be wearing shoes while driving in case of emergency. We were in a similar situation last week where branches scratched the top and sides of our trailer. We had to get on the roof while the branches were stuck in the solar panels. It was so nerve racking wondering what damage was done. I guess we need to carry a polesaw with us. Hope your roof can be fixed easily. Thanks for sharing your videos. We watch every week and follow you on Instagram.

Thank you!! The eternabond does seem like it’s stuck on pretty good and we’re keeping an eye on it. Besides that incident, Colorado has been absolutely amazing!
We just watched this episode and I feel your pain. Don’t feel too bad, I ripped the rear off our 39’ Alpine. Yeah, we weee full timers at the time. Watch your rear swing.
Eternabond Tape is your best friend. I drove too close to our house roof line and caught the awning and along with damaging the awning frame, we have small dents in the siding of the RV. Almost broke a window in the house. Repaired the awning (sort of) frame and used Eternabond on the fabric. Doesn't look the best, but it works. Yay, fun times.
Was going to come here and say the same thing. That would be a joke to put a whole new roof on for that. Happens all the time. Eternabond it, lap sealant around the eternabond edge and it’s done.
Used to drive a semi throughout Colorado delivering hardware merchandise to a chain of stores and lumber yards. Driving over Monarch Pass was a weekly ritual. There used to be a small truck stop outside of Salida with the best biscuits & gravy! (This was in the late 80s early 90s).
We definitely understand. Pulled in a campground a few months ago with our 22 Montana and didn't see a limb and did the same thing. Our tear was more on top. Called our Progressive claims department. We took it to Affinity RV Group in Goshen, Indiana where the adjuster came and worked with them on the estimate and repair. 3 days in and out for a brand new roof that actually looked better than the original. They are the BEST in the country at repairs. If insurance pays for the roof it should cover the cost of them removing and replacing the panels. Ps, im Wendy's husband that won the giveaway!! Thank you guys
Sorry about your roof damage. Eternabond and sealed with Dicor no-sag should create a good repair. If you decide to replace the membrane, you might look at RV Armor. They advertise that they will come to you (not in the woods, perhaps) and will take off and reinstall all roof components. I don’t have personal experience with them, but there are plenty of reviews and RUclips videos.
Crap happens and I am glad it wasn't worse. It's a pain to fix with all work that comes with fixing it but it will be fine at least you can still use it. So don't be so hard on yourselves. I wish I could live the way you do but that will never be in the cards for me. So I just enjoy watching your adventures and see things I will never see except through the videos. Any safe travels always. ❤️🙏☮️
thank you for the encouragement! It definitely could have been much worse and so far the patch is holding up very well and we are thankful for that! thank you for watching!
God bless you two. We have all had our "mistake". Sadly this time was yours. Fortunately the insurance fixed our motorhome. We have a 42' Monaco Dynasty Class A diesel pusher.
I would recommend to get a forever roof that's what we did I scraped along some trees and damage the side of my rig and we went and got the forever roof it's a hard spray on roof and they also pull everything off for you and put everything back on that's what I would recommend
The first ding is the hardest on something new. Now you have something liven it with battle scars and a story to tell. Everything is fixable as long as you're healthy and safe. So enjoy your Wild RV Life with all the bump and bruises it brings. That is were memories are made.
Totally agree! I think it just hurt more because it is the first big ding on our shiny new thing 😆 but it could have been a lot worse! We surely won’t ever forget this trip through Colorado
We did the same think one time .There is a RV roofing tape that we us it 5 or inch wide self sticking and works just fine it was on the trailer foe years till we change trailer and we still carry a roll with us . I think amazon carry's it .
That’s what we have on it now (the arc roof tape, eternabond)! I think it will be good for a while but we’re thinking we might want to fully replace it at some point just to be sure.
Eternabond will fix that easy! That's just a lil snag. Do all the edges all the way around the unit and all openings to ladder, a/c's and vents and it'll all be fine. We bought a new 2023 GD and the 1st thing we did was eternabond every edge. It also allows the eternabond to take that initial hit rather than the TPO membrane. You'll be fine....
It’s a rough year but can be patched permanently. I would not do the whole roof. Those days will come but not today. You two are sweet and I’m enjoying your channel 👍🏼 good job
There is a youtube channel called Downsizing Makes Cents and they showed where they did the same thing you did, but they hit both - the RV bumper scraped road and the fifth wheel hit the truck bed.
It can ALWAYS be worse! It’s not ideal, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out! We’re newbies with a Z3100. As we were towing it home from the dealer, we were rear-ended on a highway. Literally…only 5 miles away from the dealer, a car drove into us. We were going 55mph…still accelerating from the on ramp. Then….Boom! Most importantly, No one was hurt! Now we wait…. And wait for our new adventure to be repaired and we can start all over! 🤦🏼♀️
I fabricated a mount for my backup rv camera screen that mounts in the RAM dash recess uding the factory 2 center screen mount screws. I shortened the monitor cable and plugs into the upper 12v outlet.
NO DEAL, like everyone is saying. THAT IS A EASY fix. I did that on my other RV, I did the tape. IT LASTED 5 years till sold it. And it still look ok. The new buyer said it was good to him, he was going to put some free-floating RV sealant on it. Good to go. And I don’t think your insurance company will do a new roof for that.
I carry loppers with us when we go boondocking in the AZ forest. I have had to cut branches a few times to get down a road. Great videos, thanks for sharing!
We're sorry you guys. It looks like you've received some really great advice on repairing it with the Eternabond tape though. All will be good and work out in the end.
Thee problem is Thor’s prices are all over the state land iss going out of control a lot of the time some a- h-e has those old buildings declared “national historic “ and then who has to bring them up to code , they won’t let you tear them down. I seen this happen with a coal storage shed in Breckinridge
It happens! In 2021 we bought our Jayco 25RB. The very 1st time we were going to take it out camping; my husband couldn't wait for me to move one of our vehicles over to the other side of our driveway. Being impatient...He pulled the trailer down the driveway without me spotting him. As soon as he started down the driveway I heard a weird noise. It happened to be the trailer awning being scraped from the side of our garage. Then he still kept going because he didn't see or hear me screaming at him to STOP. He tore the membrane of our Brand New Trailer approximately 8 inches long. To make things short...we took it to the dealership & they put the Eternabode tape over the membrane & told us it would be months before it could get fixed. In October 2021, we took it to Overla Trailer Repair in Howard City, MI & they replaced the roof. Thank goodness the insurance covered the cost; except the insurance deductible. Just saying....It Happens!
We replaced our roof on our 30' 5th wheel. The cost was cheaper than a factory roof replacement. They did all the work taking off the solar and AC's. RVROOF. ROOF ARMOR. $285 a foot total cost $7,400. Lifetime warranty,no leaks, transferable. I think this is a good option for you and a great resale value down the road.
Properly prepared, eternabond will definitely give you a permanent fix . The cleaning and trimming of the area is key. Oh and don’t think for a minute you are alone in damaging your roof. I know some boon dockers carry a set if pruning poles in a abs tube mounted on the belly of the rig, you need two pole so you can clear to 15 feet . If you Fail to plan…plan to fail. Good luck.
We’ve got some eternabond roof tape on it now! I think it will be good for a while but we’re thinking we might want to fully replace it at some point just to be sure.
Like said, eternabond and it will be good. I carry a 6"x 10ft roll with me. I did the same thing when my RV was new. Take the rail loose and run tape underneath. Put some dicor on the edges so they don't curl up later. Done deal. Mine has lasted over 3 years and still holding up , its a much stronger material than the roof material.
Lots of people are saying the eternabond should be fine! Good to hear yours has lasted 3 years! Still makes us a little nervous it being on the edge but that eternabond material is very strong
@@wildrvlifethat’s what the eternabond is for and in fact it’s a horrible pain to remove it’s so good. Years down the road IF it starts to look bad you just put another one over it after taking the white part off and the old eternabond sets in with the new. Some people use it instead of lap sealant around all of the vents and accessories so they don’t ever have to do anything else… for me that’s a little too much because what happens if you need to replace a vent…
Dude I did the same thing. Momentum 395 43’ fifth. Was in a parking lot parking to eat lunch and wasn’t paying attention. Hit a tree and ripped the front corner. I used eternabond tape to repair yes I know I need to replace the roof and I will but that tape is really good stuff and for the moment I’m not worried about it. It sucks but it is what it is.
Just wondering -- why fill up your fresh water tank "before" you travel. It seems to be a lot of extra weight -- we always fill up at the camping area or near there.
Oh man that is so sad. Time for some Flex seal. Yes that stuff really works. Flex seal with Flex tape. I use that stuff. Love the information and tips. Much love God bless and stay safe mary❤❤❤
in many states it is illegal to drive without shoes. try buying some brooks running shoes they are very light weight and very cool I cannot wear mine in the wintertime because my feet get too cold and i am in Jax Florida try some flex seal.
@@wildrvlife that is so true lots of people do drive bare foot down here. I don't know if you guys have ever seen the flex seal adds on tv, but I have used the flex seal rubber they have black and white rubber in a pint can. I think you can use a wide tape like duct tape turning the edges up to make a little dam area around where your roof is torn. make sure you clean the area good with alcohol, so it sticks really good. and I would use a small brush and put it on in layers letting it dry well in-between coats. I think this will fix it and you shouldn't have to replace the roof. and after you have coated it with the rubber, I would put a piece or two of duct tape over the rubber to keep the uv rays from the sun off the rubber and it should last for many yrs. without any trouble. I think you can find the flex seal online too.
As for the tear in your roof. Over the years on my trailers roof I've just used GE's clear Kitchen & Bath silicone (get the supreme) and it's never peeled or cracked over the years and I live in a very hot climate. Home Depot around $10.
We tow our Brinkley with a Dodge 3500 and also have Lectric bikes 2.0. Sorry to hear about your roof. But 💩 happens. At least u fixed it for now. In a previous Rv we owned, there was a hole in the roof, we didn’t even know about it until we had our AC serviced. (Been a month since we had checked the roof). I drive usually without shoes.
Grandpa here. When going over a ditch like you just did, carry sand bags. Fill a couple bags to drive over that ditch, leave them or empty them. Watch out for branches.
I will say did the same thing to our new rig and did basically used eternabond and some flex seal puty and for almost a year now no problems whatsoever
I pored the concrete on the big house that you seen in town. There is a concrete tunnel from the old two car garage to the basement of the house but 14.8 mil is ridiculous
I built a lot of the houses there worked there for about 25 years I live about 60 miles west of there I've been watching your channel I really injoy your content
Eternabond can be a PERMANENT repair for something like that! If you're nervous about that, edge it off with a coat of a good rubber roof sealant for good measure. Give the area a good scrubbing with rubbing alcohol to clean and dry it off beforehand. You will be happy with the results.
I kept replacing my rear bumper that kept getting damaged. I finally stopped because I realized it was going to keep getting damaged and I was wasting money. The one I have now has 4 accidents on it. Parking lots and a guy didn't want someone to sneak in between me and his jeep so he closed the gap and cut my bumper.
Darn, that sucks! Hopefully a very good patch job will do the trick! Just stay focused for next time & if need be wait till other distractions are gone. You gotta be blunt & let people know that you will visit after you get done setting up! Hang in there and your awesome adventures are still ahead!!😊
Yes, very true!! We’ve got a good Eternabond patch on it now which should last for a long time honestly but we’re thinking of replacing the all just to be sure.
You are right ! Don't bother people when they are setting up or closing up. When people come up to us, we tell them politely " we would really like to chat and give you 100% of our attention so we will just set up and go see you when we are done".
We have a 2500 Longhorn RAM 2022 which pulls our 33’ keystone Sprinter 5th wheel. We’re going to trade it in for a Brinkley just like yours. Wondering do you think our truck would have any issues pulling the Brinkley?
I’m so sorry that happened to you did you use EternaBond tape how did you fix your roof? That’s the tough part about Boondocking wishing you the best. Looking forward to seeing your videos from your Alaska trip.
If it's a pvc roof, a good roofer could heat weld a patch right over that. 30 years of roofing here. Heat welded patch would be better than tape. I'm In the U.P. Michigan swing by and I'll fire up my Leister heat gun. TPO or PVC.

I was going to say the same thing that insurance should cover the cost of the solar removal and reinstall.
Adventure plus showing the interior while putting away things for getting ready to leave was a great all in one showing RV life.😊
thank you so much! :) glad you enjoyed it!
If you get a new roof, look at and think how it would apply with your uni-strut mounts. But, Flex Armor RV roof. It’s the bomb.
We are considering them for the replacement!
I would recommend to get a forever roof that's what we did I scraped along some trees and damage the side of my rig and we went and got the forever roof it's a hard spray on roof and they also pull everything off for you and put everything back on that's what I would recommend
Yes! We’re thinking of upgrading the roof since we are going to replace it anyways
New or not there is always something to Fix or Improve its a full time job.
Hang in there. I did the same thing. Six years later the enternabond tape is still there. No issues!
Ooh now that’s an interesting idea!
I Agree with Eternabond tape. You will be just fine..
Along time ago when our boys were young we drove to Alta ❤️
NO DEAL, like everyone is saying. THAT IS A EASY fix. I did that on my other RV, I did the tape. IT LASTED 5 years till sold it. And it still look ok. The new buyer said it was good to him, he was going to put some free-floating RV sealant on it. Good to go. And I don’t think your insurance company will do a new roof for that.
Yep, we will probably leave e it with the tape for a while.
I carry loppers with us when we go boondocking in the AZ forest. I have had to cut branches a few times to get down a road.
Great videos, thanks for sharing!
The jack mounts on a Brinkley are adjustable. They can be raised about 3 inches.
Good to know! We will probably try to do that!
I'm so sorry, don't be too hard on yourselves. No one was hurt, that's what really matter.
Very true!! It definitely could have been worse
I'm a full-time Rv'er also. I always have saw to cut the branches because I have came close to doing that to my rv also
We also have a Z3100 and love it!
no matter what happens yall are entertaining and only live once.........................
Thankssss and very true! 😄
I think there are times people should just count their losses and move on with houses, lol.
I saw another full time RV couple with a bigger rip repair it with Eternabond and they may still have it on there now even after a couples of years.
Clean it really well, dicor, then eternal bond. You’ll be find. This coming from a hubby they has ocd over leaks!
So sorry that happened. Hang in there. Deep breaths. Safe travels.
Long drive = shoes off for sure! Love the channel! Just found you guys 😃
thank you so much!
Shoes on, but I do dry my hands on the vents during stressful driving.
Good luck.
Very good edited into Victoria 🎉!
I have Eternabond on my roof that is over 10 years old and is in great shape! Do It!!!
We live near Telluride. Glad you enjoyed it.
FYI, I did sometihing similar to my roof. I used "Flex Seal" tape and then "Flex Seal" spray and it has held for 2 years so far.
Oh my! Another bump in the road. The good news is that the road keeps going 👍
He is a home inspector love it🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
When boondocking, generators are such a nuisance ! YAY for your solar system🎉
Ever thought about mounting a GoPro on the roof so you can see clearances and maybe have a better view of what’s there?
We’ve got some eternabond tape on it now and it seems pretty well sealed for now! 🙌🏼 thank you so much! God bless!
in many states it is illegal to drive without shoes. try buying some brooks running shoes they are very light weight and very cool I cannot wear mine in the wintertime because my feet get too cold and i am in Jax Florida try some flex seal.
😬 I think it’s illegal in Florida to drive barefoot which is kind of funny because people are always about barefoot in Florida!
We’ve got eternabond tape on it now and it seems pretty solid for now but we’re keeping an eye on it!
Eternal bond tape is a must have while RV
Do not beat yourselves up. It really isn’t that bad. You two are adventurers. It could happen to anyone. God bless.
Thank you!! I know we aren’t the first ones to do this, and we’ll get it fixed!
That’s a good idea! We had thought about stacking up our leveling blocks too if it came to it!
Oh wow!! That’s crazy lol. And yeah it was insane some of the prices in that town
I built a lot of the houses there worked there for about 25 years I live about 60 miles west of there I've been watching your channel I really injoy your content
You two are awesome! Keep on keeping on!!!
Thank you so much!!
I have to agree with Craig those house prices are crazy. What is they say, the 3 most important things location location location lol
So sorry to hear about the roof. Must be very frustrating.
It was, lol.
I don’t get to do what you guys get to do BUT I do know this mistakes happen give yourself a pass. ❤. Thank you for sharing your experiences😅
TPO or PVC.
Oh nice, that's a good idea!
@@wildrvlife so when can I expect youz? Lol.
Haha, we may be heading that towards the end of the year, actually.
