I appreciate Matt for training with the youngsters. As we’ve seen he can easily gather a bunch of older guys or some of his friends but he’s decided to train with these guys in the past few videos. This may be weird but I got a warm fatherly feeling when he asked the guys if there was anything specific they wanted to train lol. Kinda like looking out for them and helping them. Just an all around great person. It doesn’t go unnoticed Matt!

Q+A: Many people associate becoming a professional footballer with making a lot of money. While that may be the case for players who play in top-5 leagues, not all professionals will experience this idea of guaranteed wealth. Could you go over the financial realities/lifestyle of a professional soccer player in a 2nd/3rd league team? Would the income be enough to support a family with children? Would the player need to have other sources of income besides soccer? And/or would the player need another job after retiring professionally. Thank you!

most definitely it will be enough to get by with same change left but not enough to live a “fancy” lifestyle for example here in the us second division or let’s say the usl league one the average salary is around 2 grand to 3 grand and if you think about it it’s really not that much that’s why most players have there own small businesses on the side to get extra money on the side,I always wanted to become pro and I still do I’m 17 and I just think about it a little more and tbh we are going to have to sacrifice a bit if we really want it

Q & A : As a young athlete who is trying to build a solid athletic foundation, it is also important to be more explosive and athletic specifically for soccer. You would have to focus on a lot of plyometrics and agility work alongside the weight training. How would you divide your weight training sessions to balance out your plyometrics and agility work with the weight training ?

@Samuel Wells There’s 7 days in a week. As Matt mentioned, no need to over complicate it. 3 days of heavy lifting, 2 days of SAQ is one thing you can do. If you have to do both in a single day. Be efficient in your heavy lifting, get it done in an hour and spend 30 mins on SAQ.

If you are not fat then focus on eating until you are full while eating healthy whole foods, no need to complicate it your body burns calories a lot it is going to be very hard to gain weight in my experience (I’m 17 and eat about 4000-5000 calories a day while not gaining a pound of fat - you could say I have a fast metabolism 🤪)

Q&A: Do you think having many back up plans is very important or do you think only having 1 back up plan is better than the other because, if you want to make it pro and your goal is to get there, don’t you think you need to focus only on a couple goals so that you can be very focused and not worried of,”If I don’t make it, at least I have another plan”. I know in a previous offseason video you talked about all the back up plans you had after dropping out of college, but what is the best advice you can give about that? Do you regret having so many back up plans or do you think having all the back up plans was very important for where you are at now in your career?

🥊 Great video, the same applies to all sports or anything in general. I remember when I was an amateur boxer I use to say “Once I’m older I’ll get better at __________” or “I’ll figure it out later” THERE IS NO LATER, ONLY NOW! I love how you said you should have something that makes you stick out but at the same time work on improving your weaknesses. I see many professional boxers do either or but never work on their strengths & weaknesses simultaneously. Your strengths can only carry you so far, once you reach the professional ranks everyone is good at something. Never stop learning! 🥊

Don’t just watch football. Focus solely on your position and the BEST players at that position. Watching college players will NOT teach you how to be the best, it will teach you how to play at THAT level. Watching and mirroring the absolute best players in the world will give you a better idea of how to play smarter and can also become mentally engrained in your psyche; so it can help while you’re playing, even without you actively utilizing it.

QnA: Matt Im 16 andI have had hamstring injuries, hip injuries, and I’m now starting to get patellar tendonitis in my left knee. It’s hard to grow as a player when I’m constantly injured. I’m still dealing with all these injuries and every-time I try to fix it. I either over strengthen something or over stretch it because I’m just desperate to fix my issue and I’m not sure how to balance the workouts so I’m getting a good mix of both strength training and stretching. While still getting some decent touches on the ball. So my question is what advice can you give to players to figure out how to find a good balance of both strength training and stretching

But as Gary Neville said, theres no point in having u23 teams, if you're playing for the u23 team and not in the first team it's too late. Of course players like Ian Wright and Jamie Vardy have made it in their early 20s to its not impossible
