I absolutely love the fact you edited a recording to give an impression of how the pass-through will actually look in the headset itself. I wish more people would do this.
I'm glad you like that bit because I really do think it's important as when I got my quest 3 it was a bit of a disappointing shock to find it wasn't as clear as the recordings id seen. Like passthrough it's still really cool and fun but I don't want anyone buying a headset from my recommendation and getting a shock like I did. Thank you for the comment :)
I was thinking about getting a Quest 3S (I only have the Quest 2) because it's a cheaper option but I wanted to understand the difference between the Quest 3S and the Quest 3 and you gave good explanations. But even if it's a cheaper option, I'm still thinking about getting a Quest 3 because it has a higher resolution, etc. Thank you so much for making this video because you answered all my questions about the Quest 3S.
You are very welcome and I'm glad that my video helped you! If you do go for the quest 3 over the 3s it will feel like a bigger upgrade for sure! Thank you for the comment :)
Quick comment for the algorithm. Yours is one of my favorite channels in the VR space, especially the more scripted vids like the game/hardware reviews :)
It was a no brainer for me to get the Q3S (330€ - Free Batman Game, 30€ Store credit, 3 Months Meta+ free). I tried the PSVR2 and i loved it and this will be my first own VR Headset. Got it with a friend and they arrive tmmrw, very excited to try the Dungeon game
Awesome I'm glad you are happy and excited with your purchase I'm sure youll have a great time with it! Dungeons of eternity is great are there any other games you're interested in playing?
The 256 GB version of the 3s feels like a medium drink. You could get the small for cheaper and still enjoy the drink, or the large drink. More drink for the large, and the medium is really just there to make the large seem like a better deal. I already have the super small drink, the quest 2, and the bathtub of the drink, the Valve Index. I really just wanted to try the normal small drink, the Quest 3s to see if I should reccommend it to my friends who don't have VR in the first place. This is a weird analogy, but I've already spent the time writing it, so I'm just gonna post the comment now.
I think it's a good analogy Kcthetrangirl! For your friends I don't think you'll get better performance for the 299.99 price tag. For me it's the best deal for new VR players. Thanks for the comment :)
Yeah this is the great thing about it is it won't just effect quest gaming but PCVR and PSVR2 as the quest 3 is now the new low end spec for VR so the other platforms can be pushed further! Exciting times are ahead I think!! Thanks for the comment :)
This is such an awesome deal especially if you are new to VR, u get a amazing headset plus a free triple a game and you get quest + for 3 months and that has a ton of games on it. All for $300 . I've been saying if for awhile VR is where it's at I have up flat screen gaming awhile ago and never looked back. The question is do u wanna play a video game ? or be in a video game
Hey, thanks for the video, you explained everything well. I'm planning to get this as a first time user and my question is, what other hidden costs (like needing straps) do you think I could run into using this?
Hi nm3xn! Ah nice I'm sure you'll like it! There are for sure some things to be aware of: The head strap - for me personally I don't like the default head strap that comes with the 3 and the 3S. Some people are fine with it so I would see how it feels for you first before you purchase a different one. But there are many different head straps you can get from either meta directly or from 3rd party like BoBo VR. Battery life - when playing games you'll get 2-2.5 hours on one charge. So id advise to get a battery pack for it so you can keep playing. This links to the head strap as you can get head straps with hot swappable battery packs on them which is ideal. Also, what do you intend to use the 3S for? If you want to use It to make videos for RUclips then id have some other recommendations too. But yeah if you need help picking anything in particular head strap wise then let me know! And ofc if you buy your quest 3 via my link you get 30 dollars of store credit so you can buy a game or two with that which should get you off to a great start in terms of games to play :) Hope that's helps and thanks for the comment!
@@RyanClifford I appreciate your answer :) I would most likely just use for casual gaming. They don't directly ship to my country so I think I'll end up having to buy from resellers... I don't think I can use your affiliate link because of that unfortunately. Also, I was wondering, if you can answer this, what about custom lenses? If someone wears glasses are they going to need to order a pair?
I agree those pancake lenses are top notch! But the 3S is a good upgrade if anyone can't justify spending the extra 200 as well. Basically with either headset you get an upgrade which is great! Thanks for your comment :)
Simple answer, Yes. If you don't wanna spend that much, it is a budget headset, and it is better than a 2. If you have a quest 2, unless you don't play PCVR, there is no point in getting a 3s, especially if you have headphones.
The only reason if you have a quest 2 you may want to upgrade is because meta is no longer making quest 2s. This means eventually developers will stop supporting it as it's holding back VR in terms of pushing what games can do due to the low performance. So at some point games won't be made for it anymore and quest 2 users will need to upgrade. Will be interesting to see when this happens but it will happen eventually I think. Thanks for the comment JustMarq! :)
@@RyanClifford That is true tbh. Cus there isn't gonna be that much of a difference between the two until later on it just can't support games. I have a quest 3, which I sent for warranty (Don't ask me how I damaged it. I honestly do not know) and I've been using the quest 2. But since I'm a PCVR player, the only difference was the Fov, and I adjusted to the weight/size pretty quickly.
Yeah I would say that's right. Its almost like they took the quest 2 and modernized it so it will run all the new games and mixed reality stuff well! Thank you for the comment! :)
The Quest headsets are the absolute best device for the money. The downside is that it has none of the comfort features of more expensive headsets. Expect to spend about $200 on head straps, batteries, hand grips, etc etc.
hey, should i get it? i’ve got like 2 hours on the index(got a giftcard and got to try it out) and 3 on the original vive, my birthday is in December and i do have a friend with the q2 but i just dont feel like spending the other 200$ on it(will split it with my parents anyways)
Hi loafcccc! I think if you have never had a VR before it would be a good starter headset for sure. Especially if you don't wanna spend the 200 extra for the quest 3. Like I said you get the processor and the colour passthrough of the quest 3. What kind of games do you like to play? Do you have a good gaming PC that could do PCVR? Because these things are all factors on what you should pick imo. But in terms of performance for the price it doesnt get much better than the 3S in my opinion. Hopefully that helps and thank you for the comment :)
Hi adelinjumara! Well I would say it depends on a few things: Have you used VR before? If not you may find you get motion sick in the beginning. If this happens you gotta stop playing and let your body calm down before playing again. Eventually you build up a tolerance to it and can play for longer sessions. But if you know you are going to love VR or have already tried it then the Quest 3 is the best standalone headset at the moment and I don't think you'd regret purchasing it. Imo make sure you get a better head strap though because that caused me to get headaches after 30 mins or so. If you are unsure you'd like VR then id try it out at a friend's house or at a VR arcade before you buy. Hope that helps and if you have any more questions let me know! :)
Quest Free S be pretty cool

Bro, you're literally the only honest person when it comes to admitting the rendered videos of pass-through is way better than what you actually get.
I was thinking about getting a Quest 3S (I only have the Quest 2) because it's a cheaper option but I wanted to understand the difference between the Quest 3S and the Quest 3 and you gave good explanations. I bought the quest 3s and i am really happy with it. it wasnt too expensive, and thats what i was looking for as its my first own vr.
This is about to be my first headset! I cant wait

the new chip is better at encode/decode so PCVR performance will be improved as well

Great review . You can however get a really cheap usb c splitter which allows a 3 5mm jack and allows you to charge your phone.
Thank you for letting me know this I'll have to try em out!
The souncore vr p10 headphones is on sale on amfor $53 its Bluetooth plus a USB C dongle for less latency and you can charge the headset

Quest 3 optics alone are worth the extra $200 or whatever it is. Just buy it!

The IR blasters being built into the headset could sell it for me, but the lack of an aux jack is a bit of a deal breaker.
You can connect any earphones/headphones via Bluetooth
Us can use soundcore vr p10 it has a usb c for less lag and you can charge headset
Nope. I'll use a USB adapter if I get a 3S, I like my headphones.

(me quest 2 user)does it improve the connection to pc without a cable?
To be honest im not sure as i never used a quest 2 with wireless PCVR only the 3 and the 3S. Sorry about that! :/

Only a good VR if you can use the controllers to spinny the paper IRL
Hand tracked spinny paper is op
What's the name of the "dongle" headphones that has a USB c on the other side for charging?
GG indeed!
Great video! Would you be interested in collaborating with us to review our latest battery head strap for the Quest 3s?
So the 3S is a rice burner? 🤔

Nice work!
