Butler, Blake + Grant, 'Yes' @ The Green Note, Camden 31.7.31

I missed out on the Bernard Butler, Norman Blake and James Grant shows in London in March as they were during the Suede tour! Thankfully, a recording of their Union Chapel show went wrong so they booked these tiny shows to do some re-recording! They're going to release a recording which will be fantastic.
I had never heard of James Grant and he was a revelation. His voice was exactly what I go for and I loved his songs. What was really special about this trio was their beautiful harmonies. Whosever song they were about to play, the songwriter would introduce it and tell a story and then they'd go into it. Everything sounded so rich. Here they do McAlmont + Butler's 'Yes'. Now, David McAlmont's vocals are incomparable in this beautiful fuck you of a song. I think this trio rearranged the song in a way to suit their voices really well.
