If I could see one artist I've never seen live, any living artist, it would be Norman Blake. As pure as we would like everything to be.

I had a weird incident years ago.....I was at my local folk club buying strings waiting at the register to be rang up......no one in store except I could hear someone playing the hell out of a mandolin......Norman Blake walks up to and says howdy.......he says....this little mandolin has a sweet spot right here......I was so star struck I probably came across as some idiot who had no idea who it was......I was speechless.......of course later I wished I would have hung out a little while but my wife was waiting in the car so I finally paid when the guy came out and took my money........he was surprised too.....he said "as I live and breath it's Norman Blake" a month later he asked if I knew who it was I said of course I have his mandolin instructional video!

Norman has played MerlFest in North Wilkesboro, NC. Several times. You might try that. Usually first week of May , each year!

Maybe I'm wrong; but,I have to think that "Sage Fields" is all Nancy as far as composition. I have always admired her for her sweet music and fun disposition.
I've been playing SF on mandolin for years;it was cool to be able to play along with her on this video. I like to play it a bit slower!
Saw Norman&Nancy play on the lawn at a college. Went up to ask them to autograph my case(and thank them for playing here). They were kind enough to help decorate my case with their signatures;AND,Nany wrote(printed),"Keep up with your music." And added a little musical note! THat has meant more to me through the years than she could ever know.

Saw Norman, Nancy, and James in an intimate church basement concert around 1990. Yes, it was as good as you are imagining it to be!

Norman was a studio musician in Nashville and toured with Johnny Cash for many years and is a master on anything with strings.
Nancy also can play anything with strings is like the perfect partner with Norman.
