The stick shift transmission is all about being connected to your car and rowing through the gears! In this video I show how to drive a manual car and teach the basics on learning to drive a manual transmission. If you're looking to learn how to drive a manual transmission vehicle the easy way, then this video is for you! In this video, we'll show you how to drive a manual transmission vehicle in the easiest way possible, without ever having to stall or struggle with gear shifts. This video is perfect for beginners who are looking to learn how to drive a manual transmission vehicle the easy way. If you're ready to start driving a manual transmission vehicle the easy way, then watch this video today! Driving a manual transmission car is very simple overall, you just need to take things slow. Start out on a slight decline and simple take your foot off the break to coast down the hill. Slowly let your foot off the clutch and then you can apply some throttle. Get that down and then move to flat ground starts, hill starts, and then your ready for the roads! Driving manual is a lot of fun and very rewarding especially if you are into performance enthusiast driving. In the USA pretty much every new car is an automatic, but there are a ton of new sportscars popping up offering a manual tranmission! My new manual Supra is a blast to drive and I'm enjoying it much more then my old automatic Supra. Manuals are a different bread of car and so worth learning to drive!

Bought a type r today, im in the car watching this video right now, wish me luck LOL
me right now with vw beetle
Me rn
God bless us for being bold. Doing this with my GR Corolla today. Hopefully im not granny shifting and double clutching like I should.
Just drove my Elantra N an hour and a half a back home first time driving a manual again in like 8 years was rough haha
Love the support! Haha bought a civic si, and im also in my car watching vids on how to drive it☠️
The fact that it was maybe 4-5 years ago, when I watched his old “How to drive a manual” video in the Z, and here I am, back at it again!! How time flies
Only the OG’s remember the red 370🤝
Oh nice! Yeah that was a bit ago! Good time to make an updated version with the Supra!
@@Static_MK3Focusfor sure 😎
I was gonna say the same thing 🤣
For some cars with a 6-speed manual, there is a reverse lock to prevent you from engaging reverse by accident and damage the transmission. The MK6 VW Golf R is one of them.
That's in every manual for the most part!
@@BrosFOURRSpeedeven a c6 corvette
@@BrosFOURRSpeed?
@@feardc2050 yeah! I don’t know if any modern manual without a lockout for reverse.
I learnt to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission. In my first lesson, I stalled a few times, but in my 2nd and 3rd lesson, I didn’t stall at all.
Cool! It's fun to drive!
Oh hey Dave. Long time no see eh
For me, back in the day I danced around trying to learn how to drive a manual for some years. And when I did, it was down a gravel road! And what was good about this video is that you instructed it the cool and stress free way 😎
Oh nice! Yeah it's important to stay relaxed!
i watched 25 videos and this is the one that made it click.
thanks
Glad it helped!
This a best decision for newbies. In fact. Some people hard to drive manual cars for a driving school. Just relax and focus and keep it moving. Manual transmission are fun to drive (I’m not a fan of manual cars) for traffic stick with automatic transmission
Just depends on what you are ok with! But manuals are fun for sure!
@@BrosFOURRSpeedn
You are so calm & kind! What a great teacher! 🙂 And you haven't aged a day since your last video on this topic! 😮😆
lol thanks! I do what I can
I'll be buying my Manual Supra Soon so its good to see this video driving the Manual Supra Tutorial Video!
Thanks Brother this video was super easy and informative! You Rock! 💖💎🙌∞
Nice! Glad you liked the video. Fun car for sure! Check out our website. We have tons of parts available for these www.brosfourrspeed.com
Only the OG’s know Brian made this video in his red 2016 370Z🤝
Haha heck yeah! Might as well make an updated video in the new car 🎉
@@BrosFOURRSpeed always love a BFS video, car walkarounds and learning manual in the Supra!
Thanks!
Excellent video, lots of cool tips
Glad you liked it!
Good to know man, glad I saw this video because I am considering to get myself a honda civic type R by the end of the year. It’s a good upgrade from my honda civic lx
Glad I could help! That would be a great upgrade!
Super Cool
An Amazing Video
Manual Transmission Cars are Awesome
Ive had my License since April 2022
Covered a Distance from 6.000 up 8.000 Miles in a Manual Car🚘🚘🚘🚘
It's allot of fun👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Driven an Automatic just once.
Yeah these are fun to drive!
Excellent
Thanks!
Just picked up my gr86 in manual! Thank you for the content you push out it inspired me
Nice!! You'll love that car. Those things are a blast! We carry a few parts for the 86 on our website! Could modify it like I'm doing on the Supra ;)
I just want to know when to shift gears. Is there a certain RPM range for each gear, or speed (mph) range? For example, do I shift into 4th gear when I get to 40 mph or 3k RPM?
It just depends. Like going up a steep hill you’ll reach 3k rpm’s a lot slower than going down a hill.
Today was my second day practicing i learned how to switch gears so quickly. My only problem is pulling off after stopping I’m having trouble with stalling. Its frustrating me because I’m trying to release the clutch slowly and give gas but it’s been problematic for me when pulling off.
It might just take time. Just keep those revs above 1k. Focus on that
Bought a focus RS today and here I am leading 😂😂😂😂
Oh fun!
I’m slowly learning a manual
Sweet!! They are fun!
It looks very complicated but i like to learn because i’m driving automatic
It's pretty easy to learn! You got it!
Question. Is it OK to downshift and let off the clutch slowly so it won’t jerk? Will it put wear on the transmission?
You can definitely do that too. Not a bad way for normal driving. Rev matching lets you do a shift a bit quicker tho
OK, because usually my method of driving, if I know I’m about to slow down usually I’ll just let off the clutch slowly into its RPM. And when I’m trying to speed up, I’ll rev match. Im new to rev matching.
why is the gas pedal not on the same level as brake pedal? makes it difficult to hill toe downshift
That’s kind of how most vehicles are. Every manual will differ slightly though, it’s honestly not hard at all.
I’m looking to get a Supra at the end of 2024 or early 2025. I haven’t touch a manual car in my life. Should I get an old car to practice or should I just get the Supra and learn with it? Sadly I don’t know anyone with a manual for me to practice
Just get the Supra and practice a brand new or year old clutch can take a little extra wear with no problems
You dont really need to slowly lift the clutch, you just need to find the biting point and hold it for 2 secs then let it off
Yes, but this video is more for beginners who just need to know the basics to start
❤❤❤
Thanks for checking out the vidoe!
so what happens if you dont tap the gas when downshifting to "rev match"
The tach will jump and it’ll be a bit rough. Depends on the speed though, you could be slowing down to make a right turn and not have to rev match.
the car is gonna lurch forward a little and wont be as smooth as if u do rev match. some newer cars have automatic rev matching but it is better to learn how to do it manually
Nice & comment again in my 2nd channel!
glad you enjoyed this video!
One thing i thought i heard or saw somewhere is that for first gear(in older cars that dont have a complex computer) you add throttle as you release the clutch. Is that still fine to do? Or is it actually a blip for 1st gear?
From a start or while moving? I’d never rev match to first gear. First is for starting from a stand still.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed When ur not moving and try to start rolling. Some people I see they do the entire add throttle AS you release the clutch just how you showed. But some I've seen them blip the throttle while they release the clutch just to give it enough gas for the car to not drop the rpms and start rolling
@@eduj8086 yeah you could do that as a precautionary. Really not needed as your skill develops. Just keep the revs above 1k as you let your foot off the clutch and you’ll be good
@@BrosFOURRSpeed oh ok sounds good, I've always been doing as you showed, but I've seen some people do that blip thing. Thanks a lot btw
@@eduj8086 no problem! The more you drive, the more you’ll find easier ways to do everything
Watching before i get a manual gr86 only knowing automatic 😅
Nice! You'll really enjoy it! We have a manual GR86 for sale! www.championcarcompany.com
Dip? Like go down?
Yeah the RPM will dip lower while letting off the clutch
Buying a 13 Gt/Cs, watching this before the test drive so i dont look dumb lol
lol nice! Take your time with it and it should go smooth
I’ve only had manual transmissions my entire life….. five cars/trucks and I’m in the process of replacing my current one with an automatic. I’m actually feeling completely weird about this….. I can’t even explain how much this is bothering me…. ugh
Noting wrong with that. Some good autos out there to still have some fun in! Good aspects of each transmission.
I’m about to go buy me a manual car
Nice!
"Go ahead and start on a slight decline". What kind of advice is that for people who live in flatlands?
I’m sure even in an area of “flat lands” there’s a decline somewhere. Find the best spot you can.
Why wouldn't you want to drive slowly in higher gears
Because you'll be at a low RPM and bog the engine. You want to keep it around 2k so the engine can have enough power
The best part of manual cars...nobody can steal them bc they can't drive them😂
So true!
I just move the Gearstick Left & Right once or twice to be sure that the Cars in Neutral.
But everyone has there own Driving Technique.
I don't wiggle it left & right like most Poeple.
haha yeah I do that too
No hill assist on my 2001 Honda S2000 😂
hah yeah much different in older manuals! The Supra was the first manual I've owned with that. My old 370Z's never had it.
Good video. But why do you say "and things like that", just go ahead and say when you shift from 3rd to 4th, to 5th and 6th. Every frickin video never explains
I explained it pretty good in this video..
@@BrosFOURRSpeed good video, except as a complete novice, I am not certain at what speed I should shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear to 5th gear then 6th gear, I am assuming when I get around 30 mph, then 40 mph, 50 mph and 60 mph, but not sure, good video except you just don't say enough to cover these points, for the beginner, like me, who went to your video for a full explanation, you had time, but otherwise good video, thanks for responding
Watch the tach. When you get to about 3-4k RPM go ahead and shift. Normal driving you want to stay around 2-3k while cruising. If your trying to accelerate faster, can push it closer to 5k to shift. But generally normal during around 3-4. The more you drive the more you'll be able to hear the car and feel when to shift
@@legalbeagle295 He breaks things down pretty good man. He couldn't give you specifics because every car is different. He was trying to give out general instructions that helps you learn the basics. He did a great job.
@@grabboid1017 I said it was a good video, but I still don't know when to shift from 3 to 4 to 5 to 6th.
Didn’t you do one with your 370z? Common you can think of other ideas can’t you?
We have several video ideas for sure! But I owned the 370z several years ago! It's been 5/6 years, what's wrong with a refresh?
Auto cars are way better (opinion)
Depends on the car!
I was told that parking sequence when I got my 2012 gti! Definitely was a fun manual car. Now on a waiting list for a manual Supra 🥹
Oh nice! Manual Supra is so worth it! One of the best manual sportscar
I've driven! Love it so much!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed wanted to ask about the method to fix the awkward 1st to 2nd gear shift the Supra tends to have what’s the fix for it?
Never thought about the parking tip at the end. Guess it’s just something I never learned 🤷🏼♂️🫡
Yeah it helps a lot! Sometimes it’s hard to pull it out of gear too if you park on the transmission
