    I've had the remastered version on my wish list for some time now and noticed yesterday that it was available, and I was extremely tempted to purchase, but hesitated. Now I'm here watching your video that I just discovered after searching for this remastered version and I remember watching you all those years ago when the original was the thing and reading your comments and advice on the MOD forums. I can not believe it's almost 10 years since the games release and the memory of watching the Waterloo 200th anniversary live streams seem like just yesterday.
    Anyway, all that being said, after watching this video you've kindly uploaded, I'm glad I hesitated on the purchase because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot different apart from slight graphic improvement (if you can call it that.) And the performance improvement was never an issue for me even during insanely large battles. So I think I'll keep my money in my pocket for now despite my love of the old game and I too was obsessed with playing it day and night and making YT videos on an old channel I had. I don't think the £15.89 price tag for this upgrade version is really fair to those of us who bought the original + DLCs and are now expected to pay again. It will have to reduce in price for me to warrant the purchase, because like you, I've played the game to death and it's hard to return to old games. So I thank you Rob for your work here and for your continued work on what was, and still is, a splendid strategy game. Cheers 👍🏼

    Hi Rob
    I enjoyed your video which provided an informed view of this game’s enhancement and an idea of what the future development may or may not bring. It was interesting to hear about your past obsession and dedication to totally mastering this game and exploiting its strengths and weaknesses. This is aptly demonstrated in your original videos, most of which I have watched and will now revisit.
    Your decision to hold off on producing more videos on the basis that currently there is nothing new to show game wise is understandable and makes a lot of sense, although I think that some of your existing subscribers and certainly new subscribers would appreciate a slower paced playthrough of the first Allied scenario depicting the defence of the Hougoumont Garrison. Further coverage of the Grog Toolbar would also be appreciated. Any videos on updates would be welcomed.
    It is great to see you back and thanks for this comprehensive video of SOW Remastered which as you say is a must for non-owners of the original and even for owners, like myself, irresistible because of the early access and the appeal of watching any future development.

    Rob, it was not so much your game knowledge but your ability to teach tactics. If not this game, what about another game such as Total War Empire or Napoleon Total War. Maybe Men of War II or Call of Duty. On another note while I will be the remastered title even though I own the original collectors addition, I do not believe the graphics have changed all that much.

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  Месяц назад

      Well, the thing is the tactics are informed by the game knowledge. I had to understand how the game worked at a very high level to even be in a position to develop those tactics in the first place. It took two years of burying my head in this game to get to the point where I understood it at a high level.
      That's a lot of work, and the motivation behind it was just how much I loved the game. That doesn't come easy to me, and not every game I play gives me that sort of motivation. And even if it did, for most games, it's usually not necessary as there's usually someone else on RUclips who's far better than me at the game anyway.
      Scourge of War Waterloo was just a unique situation where my obsession with the game led me to becoming the best player in the game.
      At the time I started putting up videos on RUclips, there was simply no one else out there that knew what I knew, and so if I wanted all this stuff out there on the internet for people to learn the game from, it meant I was going to have to do it myself. Which sort of sucks, because as you no doubt can hear for yourself, this doesn't come naturally for me.
      If there was someone else out there at the time that could have done it, believe me, I would have let them do it.
      I did it because the game deserved it, not because I wanted to be on RUclips. I positively suck at doing RUclips. But I also just happen to be the only nerd that understands this game at the highest level.

    Is it true that you can up the sprite ratio to get closer to 1:1?

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  Месяц назад +1

      Absolutely. The default sprite ratio is 1:6, which is to say every individual sprite represents 6 actual men in the battalion. This is what I normally use in my videos, sort of just to keep everything as standard as possible.
      However, the sprite ratio can be adjusted in the options menu to have each sprite represents either more or less men.
      You can set it for a 1:1 sprite ratio, but there's a caveat.
      Each battalion has a sprite cap of 200 sprites. And since most battalions in the game have more than 200 men in them, what you end up with is all battalions looking the same size because at 1:1, they will all hit that sprite cap.
      The map is also not scaled for this. Even with the 200 sprite cap, 1:1 is still much to big for the map.
      For instance if you deploy a whole brigade in line at 1:1 in the open area half way between Hougomont and La Haye Sainte, the brigade would probably stretch from Hougomont to La Haye Sainte. Which is obviously ridiculous, a single brigade would not cover that large of a front.
      But because the map is not scaled for a 1:1 sprite ratio, it does.
      You can still do it of course, but it may look sort of silly.

    • @freshfresh5205
      @freshfresh5205 Месяц назад

      So this is now 64bit on infinitely more powerful computers but 1:1 map and sprites even though possible are not implemented?

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  Месяц назад +1

      @@freshfresh5205 to be honest, you wouldn't want that even if the game could do it. The maps are scaled much to small to accommodate a true 1:1 sprite ratio.
      The 200 sprite cap may be hard coded in the game, I'm not sure.
      If not, they may change it during early access. I still think you wouldn't like it once you actually saw it. Imagine a single 600 man battalion deployed in line, it would stretch from La Haye Sainte to Hougomont. Which is pretty absurd.

    • @freshfresh5205
      @freshfresh5205 Месяц назад

      @@DarkRob316 apparently their was a 1:1 map mod in the previous version. Hoping that will happen again. Also now that we have some modern memory access and more modern PCs I kinda hoped the devs would do 1:1 maps and unit numbers. I mean why would you not.
