      One thing I figured out when playing King of Westphalia on HITS, you can actually bayonet charge units standing on the wall. I dont know why they can exactly, seems like maybe an oversight? Eithee way, it makes taking Hugoumont much easier

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  2 года назад +1

      @@jacobharmon9795 it's not an oversight. The wall in front of Hougomont is considered defensive terrain by the game, like woods, or hedgerows or a sunken road etc etc. All defensive terrain can be charged, so it's something you always want to be on the lookout for, especially with the wall, as it's the best defensive terrain in the game, along with the wall around Plancenoit church.
      Hougomont itself is considered a fort, like La Haye Sainte, or Papellote. These cannot be charged and must be assailed with firepower. Cannon can be used to damage the forts and weaken their defensive benefit, and make the musket fire more effective against it. Surrounding a fort on multiple sides is the best way of driving the defenders inside out.

    • @jacobharmon9795
      @jacobharmon9795 2 года назад

      I figured it was just counted as defensive terrain. I just wonder how the french can charge over and onto the wall, perhaps we should imagine ladders like in the 1970 movie?

    It's great to see that there is a still a positive player base supporting this game in some way or another. Sadly, I happen to be one of the unlucky ones and have not been able to purchase scourge of war before it was dropped from sale. Do you believe that Matrix games will re-release the game and, if not, where may I purchase a copy?

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  Год назад +2

      Matrix games no longer owns the publishing rights to Scourge of War. The game is back in it's rightful hands with the original developer, Norbsoftdev. They are currently working on remastering and enhancing the game to bring it up to modern day standards and work better with modern day computers.
      Once that's done, norbsoft will likely look to aquire a new deal with Steam and re release the game.
      Currently the game is not available for sale anywhere, but stay tuned to this channel for future updates, as once more information is released I'll be all over it.

    I'm curious, what are some of your favorite commanders of time period? This does not need to be contained to the waterloo campaign

    • @jonshive5482
      @jonshive5482 2 года назад

      French Marshal Davout. He was outnumbered almost 3 to 1 at Auerstedt by the Prussians but managed to repulse their attack, then counterattacked and drove the enemy from the field, inflicting about twice as many losses on the enemy. A few years earlier at Austerlitz he drove his III Corps 71 miles in three days to arrive in the nick of time to save Napoleon's southern flank from collapse. He was instrumental in many other battles and was almost certainly Napoleon's best independent corps commander. Unfortunately for the French he and Old Boney didn't get along too well personally and so Davout was not on the field during his Waterloo campaign.

    Hey rob, I'm considering playing a full battle scenario in HITS. I don't know if you've tried it before, but if you have, do you have any tips? I'm thinking Ligny or Waterloo

    • @DarkRob316
      @DarkRob316  2 года назад

      I've played them all HITS. They're all winnable, some are easy, others very difficult. If this is your first time playing an army scenario HITS then I suggest Waterloo as the French, as even playing HITS, it's virtually impossible to lose.
      The biggest advice I can offer(assuming you already understand the game at a decent level) is to keep it simple. The AI does not think like you do, so don't try to direct HOW the battle is fought, only where it is fought.
      Once you assign your subordinate officers their objectives and attack stances, observe what they do. Don't jump in and try to correct every little thing they do that isn't in line with what you think they should do, rather try to recognize what it is they are doing and support it.
      Secondly, use all 3 arms on the attack. If you send infantry forward, send some cavalry to. Even a little bit of cavalry can go a long way in turning the formational advantage in favor of your forces, even though you're not micromanaging these advantages yourself, they can still help.
      Be active on your horse. You gotta ride around and observe everything. The messages you get from your subordinates are very generic. They won't give you a good idea of what's happening. There's no substitute for your own eyes on the ground.
      Keep an eye out for objectives you can occupy. The French Waterloo scenario has a very low score requirement for a major victory. You only need 30,000 points for a Major Victory, in a scenario where there are over half a million points on the field by the battles end. Even if the battle doesn't go your way tactically, if you've been dutiful in extracting points from the objectives, you can still win. The game doesn't care about tactical or strategic outcomes when determining victory, only points. Get enough points and you win, regardless of the actual situation. So when you can grab an objective, TC an officer and enough units to occupy it and rack up those points.
      Be patient. The battle is nine hours long. Don't try and win it in the first hour. Keep reserves. Do not throw your whole army at the enemy all at once. You can not direct a force of that size effectively from the saddle. Keep things as small as you can. Hit the enemy at specific points of value with smaller forces and observe. Be ready with more forces at hand to exploit any breach in the enemy defenses, or to reinforce if your forces aren't getting the best of it.
      Ignore the Prussians. They're scripted to move to Plancenoit. If you're not there when they get there, they will basically chill there and not bother you, so long as none of your forces are close enough to aggro them. Just move whatever forces you have in range of that area of the field out of there.
      And lastly, remember the "Go To Me button". Hit it everytime before you try to move yourself to make sure you aren't clicked on some other unit when you click somewhere to move and find out you just made some other unit move instead of yourself.

      Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to try out waterloo as the french. I played Ligny as the french in hits but it went south pretty quickly and I lost control of the situation at saint armand. After the first hour or so I had negative points. I think my mistake was trying to cover too much ground at once, Ill have to keep my attack much simpler.

    You're making me eager to put together a grand show with this scenario, defending as Wellington. Obtaining the 100,000 point threshold for Major Victory seems like it may be the easy part. Holding onto it until dark may be the tricky part. Does Grouchy, Vandamme or Gerard ever come onto the map in this one?

    • @DarkRob316

      @@banksixdeis94 Always play it like you expect Grouchy will show up. If he does, you're ready, if he doesn't, oh well, now you have more troops to use freely. In this video I didn't bother because I knew I'd hit 100k points long before that variant comes into play. But when I covered the full battle I did get the Grouchy variant. The Prussians come in handy for dealing with Grouchy.
