Wow- this is great! It's like the movies about sewing we saw in home ec way back in the day, only brought into the 21st century! Those sewing machines were more complicated than this nifty gizmo! If I can use a sewing machine, I can definitely run a 3D printer. : ) Getting old isn't all bad!
I see this question has already bee asked but it was 2 years ago so im checking to see if they have improved it any. Is the Silhouette 3d software able to export files such as into STL files yet? Or can it run other machines?
I downloaded the software and the only two options for saving are S3D and *.*. The latest, I don't know how to use... So I went online and did a search for a software translator. Got one and it won't accept the Silhouette's files... I am stuck...
Hello,I have problems with software 1.2.212 Problem n.1 = opening the program the wi-fi disconnects. Problem n.2 = the response of the machine to the manual commands of the filament is very slow. The program in general is slow. Sure of your kind reply, best regards
Will the software will be able to export stl files in the future? I dont mind paying for it. I already had a printer when the alta came out. But i really like the cameo and alta software.
Sophie, I can't confirm this will actually happen because it's still in beta testing, but in the future watch for a pro version that not only exports to .stl but also runs other 3D printers from the Silhouette 3D software!
@@KellyWayment Has Silhouette made it where Silhouette 3D can run other 3d printers yet? And if i design something in Silhouette 3D, can i save it as an stl and use a different slicer (Cura for instance) to run either the Alta or a different machine? im asking because i see its been 2 years since your reply here. Please and thank you
My prints are getting completely stuck to base tried cooled few mins and still warm it tears the tape and could only get it off using a scalpel carefully not damaging the plate , how can I stop this the plastic tool didn’t work it just slipped and sliced my hand open.
Yes, I made a lot of small pieces with the filament that's included. You can probably get hundreds of designs made with a refill roll, depending on the size and quality of your designs. It goes pretty far.
Emmanuel Barco what kind of design? If you have a 3D design from other software that’s .stl or .obj, you can open it. You can also open 2D designs that were created in Silhouette Studio to make a variety of 3D projects like boxes, cookie cutters, etc. Depends on what exactly you are trying to do.
Since upgraded OS to Catalina in my macbook, the Alta printer stop working. I upgraded to the latest software (Silhouette 3D) and researched in many webs and forums but nothing worked. Any help will be much appreciated.
Michell Peralta There is a known bug with Macs communicating with the Alta in the current version. They are working on it. In the meantime, uninstall it and choose the legacy version instead.
Robin Milne When the software first came out and this class was made, they did not differentiate the names between skirt and brim. It was all called a brim. Now you can choose either type and they are named correctly. 😊

Ha ha! I love your comments, Laura. I'm glad you like it! :)

@@scottulcak9749 I do not believe so. There has not been any significant update to the software since 2019.

I love the 3d files. How much filament is used to make a typical design? Can you use the filament included with the Alta to make more than one design?

@@CreateWithSilhouette Can you use the Alta to make the regular boxes and 3d flowers in the Silhouette store?
@@sedirasanders4853 the 3D papercraft designs in the store do not translate directly to 3D printer designs as I think you're envisioning.
This may sound like a silly question, what are the objects make with this machine used for?
They are mostly decorative, and often useful plastic parts. I suggest checking out Thingiverse.com to see what people are 3D printing.
Is there still a free with machine folder
Yes! It places itself in the middle of my Library, not necessarily in alphabetical order.
@@KellyWayment is there a way to bring in my own custom design if so can you lmk how

not sure if it's too late, but I had to download the legacy version of the 3D software, then go into security and privacy to allow it to open

Amy Trimble thank you very much, I’ll try that.
Kelly Wayment thank you, hope that they find a solution soon.
That's a skirt, not a brim
