  • This is a section of a Documentary/Podcast I will be releasing in the near future, remembering 'The Selton Hill ambush' which took place on the 11th March 1921, it features the late Paddy Flynn from Selton and Michael Eddie Heeran (R.I.P) who lived close to Laura lake, he shares a story about Andy McPartland coming to his house after the ambush and I hear how his father Ned brought Andy across the hills to Foxfield Church (Fenagh) where they departed in the hours after the ambush. The full Podcast when released will have many more stories and memories from the events of that day.
You can follow me on @mikespowerplay
The video includes the newly restored Monument and upgrade works recently carried out at Selton Hill to commemorate the centenary.
    1921 - 2021.

My grandmother was Mary Wrynn, from Fenagh. When my mother and I visited Fenagh, my mother's first cousin, Paddy Wrynn, took us to the area and told us the story of Selton Hill. Those poor men who lost their lives will never be forgotten. Eileen

Looking forward to hearing the whole documentary. Well done Mike for doing this.I grew up listening to the older people talking about Selton Hill and Jack Hunt the local man from Attirory near where my mothet was from. who was badly injured but survived terrible stories about the shouting of the black and tans when they were bringing them on the lorry into Carrick Jail. I would not like to repeat here what they were shouting only to say it was vile. Sean Connoly(Longford) Michael Collin's right hand man I think he died in Carrick Jail.

The barrel is knocked of the rifle on the statue. A shame it hasn't been repaired.

Hello Doc thanks for your comment, as part of the new upgrade works put in place by the Selton Hill Committee the top of the gun is now repaired and the area around the Monument has had works carried out including the stonework getting sandblasted and a fence put in place with lovely flowers and Flag pole now in place, the committee has done great work in preparation of the centenary which saw a number of events streamed online, and a special Mass which took place on the day to remember those who lost their lives which was celebrated by Fr Liam Kelly in Aughnasheelin Church. The video from footage included in this RUclips video by me was filmed with the new works included. A new website is also now live and can be visited at Seltonhill.com
