Vermithor, known as the Bronze Fury, is the largest and oldest living dragon, after Vhagar. He was ridden by Jaehaerys I Targaryen until the king passed. Since then, Vermithor has remained unclaimed.

Somthing I find interesting that I didn't consider while reading the books. Daemon and the rest of the blacks have both their own experience and the direct teachings of their parents, grandparents, and extended family when it came to learning to understand their dragons. With the Hightowers pushing all of that side of the family away, none of Alicent's children have that.
That's viserys' worst legacy, never taking care to explain this to his chidlren. If he told Aemond about the limited control they have of dragons, he maybe would think twice before trying to "scare" his little nephew with a fucking nuke !
@@ledernierutopiste But then had he had given Aemond such knowledge, Aemond would find ways to use that against the blacks.
Daemon is not claiming Vermithor. He cannot claim 2 dragons. He also cannot disclaim one dragon and then claim another. The bond between a dragonrider and their dragon is for life.
What happens in this scene is that he goes to soften up the wild dragons for human presence, preparing them for others to come and claim them. Vermithor and Silverwing hasn't been around humans for half a century. They would be wild and aggressive. That's why Daemon goes in their lair, risking his life, to soften the wild dragons to human presence.
Idk, seeing Daemon command 2 dragons would be cool though.
@@crypt0sFX actually vermithor plays a huge part in the book cannon so the story can progress with daemon claiming it.

Vermithor is noted in the book as being one of the friendliest dragons, a result of having been bonded with Jaehaerys. Further Vermithor and that ilk are not wild dragons, like the Cannibal or Sheepstealer, and are not near as wild as them.
Thank you for this, I hope show-only watchers don’t think Daemon can ride one or the other…. It’s him and caraxes till one of them dies
He is not claiming Vermithor, he is going to check on him and build up rapor so maybe someone else can claim him
He doesn't claim Vermithor here, dragonriders can only ride one dragon at a time.
How does that work? Would Vermithor be like "nah I smell my boy Caraxes on you" ?

They can only bond to one dragon end of. if their dragon passes, they still will not be able to bond to another, it's why Viserys never claimed another after Balerion passed.
@@conor8492 False. A Dragonrider *can* claim a new dragon if their original one dies just like a dragon can bond to a new rider if their previous rider dies.
The reason Viserys never took another dragon is spelled out in the 1st episode; "They are a power men should never have trifled with".
He’s not claiming Vermithor. He’s rousing him and preparing him for war.
He isn't claiming Vermithor. Valyrians can only bond to one dragon in their entire life time (hence why Viserys never claimed a second dragon after the death of Balerion. Daenerys was only bonded to Drogon, with Rhaegal bonding to Jon. Dragons however can bond to different riders, after their previous rider has passed (like Vhagar bonding with Aemond after Laena died, who before was also ridden by Baelon, Viserys' father).
Can't even imagine what dragon breath must smell like
probably like burnt meat since they breathe fire so often it probably kills any bacteria, that would cause any rotting stench, but would still be unpleasant to smell

@@HieuNguyen-lj1zv to “claim” a dragon in the ASOIAF mythology required a rider to ride it, and then the bonding was complete. So yes, she had to ride them to claim them. What’s portrayed in the GOT tv show is not lore accurate.
@@alegrandax nah she raised 3 the other 2 only obeyed her because they looked to her as their mother but she was fully bonded to drogon, don't you think if the targaryens could claim more than 1 dragon they'd have done that more often by now?
He is not claiming neither he can, only Daenerys had bond with 3 dragons because she brought magic back to the world her beliefs were strong enough to hatch the centuries long stoned eggs.
Not even Dany has a bond with the 3, the minute one of the other two ends up having a bound with someone else, they will never obey her.
She didn’t bind herself to Rhaegal and Viserion, they followed her commands-yes, but they never bound to her like Drogon did.
Rhaegal was bound to Jon before he died.

Ffs, it's *Vermithor*, also in the title of the video. Also it's not "Sunfire", it's *Sunfyre*.
Also Hard Hugh & Vermithor (and Ulf the White on Silverwing) aid the blacks in the Battle of the Gullet but Hard Hugh and Ulf White turn their dragons to fight for the Greens at the battle of Tumbleton when Hugh and Ulf felt Rhaenyra had undervalued them while the Greens could better feed their ambitions
