Somehow I get the feelings the devs just _changed_ the surface swim speed and didn't even test it or anything. Like "Yeah whatever just make it slower"
I believe the reason it was nerfed is because with swim speed mutation it was ridiculously fast on top of the water, even faster if you choose photosynthetic regen or nocturnal aswell. I don’t think it should’ve been slowed down as much as it was still but I think that’s the reasoning behind it. Still don’t really see the harm in beipi being fast on top of the water. It also looks kinda stupid for an animal with webbed feet to be outpaced by something with chicken legs, if they thought it looked stupid racing around well now it just looks even more ridiculous
@@youpartake420 why is realism even a discussion when theisle is a game based on a fictional island with dinosaurs that look and act nothing like their real life counterparts. Also btw you would be blown away at the speed most waterfowl can swim on the surface of the water, especially when startled I’ve seen my own pet ducks cross rivers in a matter of seconds. If you wanna talk about real life too a croc would tire out in little more then a minute swimming full speed as quick as it could because it’s cold blooded and once its energy is spent it’s over. This is a real “isle dev” change cause I’m just trying to find the rationale behind this? Best I can come up with is they’re nerfing bepi preemptively to be food sources for playable like austro and Barry but still??
My concept is very simple :: to be a good, balanced playable, there should NEVER be a situation where "If it sees me, there's no point in running, I might as well just lie down and die". If you cannot fight your biggest adversary, you should be able to run from it. Now, run doesn't just mean speed necessarily, it can be other things ( the oryctodromeus from beast of bermuda having a sand attack that temporarily blinds pursuers is a good example of this ). For this reason, dryo is an unbalanced bad playable, its dodge attack isn't useful at all considering it just wastes stamina and barely moves you away, and with this update.. beipi is also unbalanced and bad, because it doesn't have an escape gimmick, and its now also slow. its whole THING was to have a rabbit-like alertness to your surroundings because basically everything can 1 shot you, but if you're vigilant you can get away from those same things... slowing it down so that it is only JUST faster than croc ( and even then, only if it isn't using its lunge attack ) is.. weird
The only logic needed to get to a conclusion about this is this: Noone plays beipi anymore, only 1 or 2 on the entire map in most servers. Let’s reduce it’s speed so more players will play it. Sounds like a good decision innit. Before beipi was chosen, it was dryo that was looked at: Noone plays dryo anymore, let’s give it an alt attack so atleast a bit more people will play it. Good, now reduce damage of that attack to practically 0 so it’s still useless. Even before dryo, we all remember ptera’s stam shenanigans right? No need to bring that up 🤷♂️
Well it is an interesting decision but you probably can consider the fact underwater beipi is faster than these animals also have more o2 capacity which combined with the boosted stamina is a fair win to Beipi. If Beipi could outswam creatures on surface then no animals have realistically chance to catch him. By developer point of view the balance always means we add something and we take something to keep the equilibrium. Still if a Beipi player plays well none of these animals can catch it except Deino which is a king in the water but usually both are respecting the others in their space. Only a very hungry and mad Deino attacks Beipi but the other animals cannot go for him unless they want to run out of O2. Possible this will change later to be bearable on shallow water if they get some feedback on it but I can understand the reason behind because it have an advantage underwater, stamina, vision, much more o2 level so realistically land animals only can chase him on surface but losing in if underwater. The shallow water thing is lackluster because this means you will less likely go to swamps or try to use camuflage.
Guess we will see even fewer beipis now :D How good of a choice they made! It is almost not dangerous to anything, atleast make it fast and fun to move around with..
