Thank you for this video. I appreciate the fact you did the start-up at the beginning so that we could hear what it was doing. This is EXACTLY the same start-up and sound I have. Can't tell you how helpful this has been. Thank you.
I'm a former 4x ASE master tech. Today, I replaced the regulator in my 1999 Park Ave. Just so everyone understands this....the large clip being shown around the 8:00 mark is a SUPPLEMENTARY clip. You still have to install the circlip in the groove. Mind you, this is a real challenge for many folks. Lubricate the O ring and have someone use a channelock or similar tool to hold the new part in the bottom of its bore while you compress and install the circlip in its groove. The ENTIRE circlip MUST be seated in the groove. If not, you could have a nasty gasoline leak in your engine compartment. HTH.
You are a life saver! I have a 96' 3800 v6 Camaro and had the same exact problem. I had no idea how to get that bloody thing off until I saw this. Many thanks dude!!! Many thanks!
Slightly off-topic, but same car. Do you know anything about windshield wipers? Mine work fine but stay upright when turned off. Thought maybe a spring was bad or maybe just not locking back in place due to a bent stop ring but can't even get to the bastage. heh Any ideas?
I also had a 1997 Camaro with this motor. Not the RS but solid little 6 cylinder! Nice video, especially since you included the long startup in the beginning.
Thanks! I just followed this video for the exact same procedure. I didn't have the tools to remove the ignition coils, which made it so much more of a pain. And I think got the same crappy pliers from Autonation, even though they guaranteed they would fit. Took me probably 5-6 hours in total. Shoulder and arm are pretty sore now, but the car started in a second after the replacement!
Thanks for sharing this video with everyone! It was a huge help. I was having troubles getting both of the pins into the snap rings holes because my plier tips kept collapsing. First I had to modify my pliers because the 90 degree tips were too short. Then my wife suggested duct taping the pliers at the approximate width to match the hole (we used the new snap ring to do this). I then used the mirror and flashlight. Although, getting the FPR out wasn't easy, it was super simple to reassemble the system. Thanks for your help ( and my wife's advice) we saved ourselves a lot of money and it works great!
I just bought a 98 firebird 3.8L v6 yesterday n ur vids are soo damn helpful for what problems I'm having. That the seller didn't mention. I'm replacing my fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter tommorrow, I was messing with the maf sensor at work n I flooded it so it wouldnt start earlier. Lol
Doing this tomorrow, checked my fuel pressure tonight and it goes from 55 to 30 in a matter of 3 min, pulled the vacuum line off the regulator and nothing but fuel. Hope this fixes the issue and I can get my baby back on the road again!!
I recently picked up a 99 camaro with the v6 (I know I know it should have been a v8) but there was a reason for why I got it. Anyway, I have replaced just about everything and it still slow starts. I didnt even think about this until I came across this video. Thank you, gonna try this next and see what happens.
Hi, I installed the regulator without using the old metal ring just the new clip and the regulator leaks fuel... should i reuse the original clip or add a gasket...? Any suggestions please..? Thanks

Very helpful. Thank you for making this video. you did what I was thinking about doing, cause I also don't want to take the fuel rail off. Appreciate ya, brotha. God bless.
Great video! Thank you. I have a chevy truck doing the same thing. The dealership said it's the fuel pump and replaced it, but it's still cranking long. I will check to see if it's the FPR next... Thanks again!
Good video, the only symptom that I have that makes me think regulator on my 97 is random misfire that I get sometimes. It has 197,000 and still has original.
Great video and you provided much information than others on the more modern version of the same engine. I was wondering about the use of the silver clip as my car has that gold colored snap ring. I know the AC Delco OEM kit comes with both a new snap clamp and that silver retainer clip. Aftermarket doesn't off this at all. To allow the FPR to sit correctly one must put a dub of motor oil on the O-Rings and then set it in position.
2002 VW wont crank. Replaced fuel filter, and fuel pump. same issue. Now going to try to replace fuel pressure regulator. I think that is where the problem lies as gasoline is just not reaching the injectors and if we spray quick start into the air intake the engine fires up for a full minute so we know the spark plugs and cylinders are working fine. Crossing fingers that its the fuel pressure regulator cause I dont want to have to start dismantling the injector rails.
If the FPR works off of Vacuum you should be able to check it with a Vacuum hand pump and see if it will hold Vacuum pressure just to confirm if it's good or bad.🤔

It could be any number of things for sure, but checking the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator is quick and easy test. Part 2 video of this issue may be helpful to watch as well.

If it is in fact the fuel pressure regulator under the hood, lucky you, you can solve this following this video, but on a 20 year-old GM car, it's USUALLY the FUEL PUMP. 1. There is a fuel pressure check valve on the Camaro which is in the fuel pump itself, deep in the gas tank, under the trunk, and cannot be replaced on its own. It requires you to totally replace the fuel pump, which is a pain! (The pump retails for about $160-$200). 2. In talking to my expert friend, he says that GM's design uses the gasoline to lubricate and cool the pump, and that if you run the gas tank dry (or even come close to running dry) just once, then boom, you will burn it out. It's a very built-in-obsolescence kind of design that we're all familiar with that runs throughout the Camaro 4th gen series. 3. My friend replaces these all the time. Excellent info, thank you! I'm glad your Camaro is running strong again. I'll add this: If you're trying to diagnose the problem, another way to determine if it's a bad regulator or a fuel pump is to get a fuel pressure tester gauge and check fuel pressure. If it drops instantly to zero it could be a bad check valve in the pump...OR a bad fuel pressure regulator. You'll need to isolate the problem using the fuel line itself. Block off the return line after the regulator. If the pressure holds while you have the return line blocked, then the problem is the regulator. Check out my "Part 2" video on how I did all of this: ruclips.net/video/sHGU8yapH-s/видео.html In my case it was the faulty "brand new" regulator I installed. I guess what I'm getting at is for those who have this issue with their Camaro or Firebird is check to see if it's the $50 part before you go after the $300 part.
People need to understand that not all chevys have problems. Its certain yrs like all models have certain cars with problems. Do your maintnance on your car. Everything wears down like yourselve..
@@sc2641 Yes, I believe it's connected to the Manifold Pressure (MAP) Sensor that's ported into the side of the intake on the passenger side of the intake.
Dont know if yur fived or not but yea if the reg leaks into vacuum line it will cause an indulating up and down idle speed and usually a high idle first thing in the morning until it reaches running temperature then back to undulating and it may 'stall too ..its because the vac hose sucks in the fuel which causes the rev in rpms and the'c computer tries to compensates by adding more air but then the vac hose sucks in more fuel and the cycle begins again....the speed at which the engine undulates is determined by the severity of the leak....this leak in the regulator is often misdiagnosed as a bad IAC....it has identical symptoms but even worse, it wont throw you a code that says FPREG...itll throw a code saying some shit like a bad MAF or AITS or even coolant temp sensor and possibly even flow restriction on EGR. Any time a fella has a fuel issue he should refer to the service manual and right off the bat put the fuel pressure gages on it because the manual would have said to check the pressure with the vac line on the regulator then with it off and a fella whould have seen the leak as soon as he pulls that hose ofl...ive seen people spend hundreds on sensors trying to figure it out....but i cant blame them all the symotoms point at IAC valve
I'm having the same issue. When I come to a stop, my car is about stall. Lights flicker, etc. Looking for the solution. Pretty sure it's the fuel pressure regulator though.
MRAJLOPEZ20 it could be, but it could be a MAF sensor. Or low fuel pressure. I'd pull the vacuum line off the regulator to check for gas in the line. If that's not it, clean the MAF sensor. Or check fuel pressure. Check out my fuel pressure vid: ruclips.net/video/sHGU8yapH-s/видео.html

The Daninator thanks for the reply i bet its a strong smell for me bc i kept turning the key trying to get it to turn over and when it finally did is was a really rough idle and it eventually stalled. Got a system too rich code.
A fuel pressure regulator can fail even with no fuel in vacuum line. It happened to me where it is long crank time. Put a pressure gauge on it and fuel pressure fell to zero as soon as car engine shut off. Fuel dumped into return line not vacuum line. Replaced regulator then alls well again
jip got the same problem with my s10, a gauge told me more than enough. It's a 4.3 vortec...sooooo you can guess already. I need to take the whole manifold (top) off ..*sigh* you had it easy trust me lol
SecGuard Guy With the 4.3 Vortec engine, it's not ontop of the manifold. The regulator is actually INSIDE the top manifold near the spider injectors. So ya, everything has to come off, throttle body you name it before i can get to mine -_-
on all these videos there was never a mention about cars take a few cranks on cold start after sitting of all night... or when the waethers cold.. Im nt spending 200 dollars or more or a problem nature create... I dont over think. I actually pissed in my fuel tank and it the problem stopped

I just did this and it leaks fuel and doesnt build pressure. I made sure to get all the o-rings out and made sure the new one went in the same way. Any ideas?
I had trouble when I replaced the faulty regulator that was installed in this video. I ended up using the snap ring instead of the fancy new clip. Snap ring held it in tight, the other clip did not, so it leaked. Gotta make sure it's seated all the way in.
Jonathan Madera The 97's are probably RS but 98 V6's are not. I don't have RS on my 98 and have never seen it referred to as such. I wish it was though. RS sounds so much more cool.

You had the exact problems my car is having did u get a really strong smell of gas?
I wouldn't say it was really strong, but yes, there was a smell of gas.
The Daninator thanks for the reply i bet its a strong smell for me bc i kept turning the key trying to get it to turn over and when it finally did is was a really rough idle and it eventually stalled. Got a system too rich code.
Cool
I followed your video step by step, yet when I tried to start it, I was spilling has outta the back side
Good deal. Thanks for the tip!
Typically when a fuel pressure regulator fails internally vehicle has a hard time staying running. Due to inability to generate enuff pressure
thank you very much my friend it help me a lot
Awesome! Glad I could be of help.
jip got the same problem with my s10, a gauge told me more than enough. It's a 4.3 vortec...sooooo you can guess already. I need to take the whole manifold (top) off ..*sigh* you had it easy trust me lol
Well i just change the fuel pressure regulator and it started fine
SecGuard Guy
With the 4.3 Vortec engine, it's not ontop of the manifold. The regulator is actually INSIDE the top manifold near the spider injectors. So ya, everything has to come off, throttle body you name it before i can get to mine -_-
I don't know much about the engine but if that's what it takes then go ahead and do it
can that also cause the engine to flood? and also cause it not to start?
Gas in my oil pan im shock i give up help
had same problem
so I just changed crank sensor and turns on fine
i drive a sonata 2009
the car take a long time to start when the engine is warm
when it's cold it start right away any idea, please ?
Crank sensor
YOU are Awesome !
I have a 98 firebird v6 cranks but doesn't start and when it does start..it dies soon after. What could it be?
Could be any number of things. You need air, fuel, spark and compression to run an engine, so check the status of each.
Where's the regulator on a 1995 Camaro 3.4 v6?
It's located on the fuel rail. The fuel rail is on the top-middle of the engine inside the "U" shape of the intake manifold.
@@TheDaninator Thanks,I'll check it Monday on my day off✌
@@TheDaninator wow, getting to the back of that thing is gonna suck. What type and size wrench is that?
That same regulator now they charge 87 dollars. Seems to me is a rip off.
when you gave it gas when it was running
did it cut out too
No. It ran and revved just fine.
on all these videos there was never a mention about cars take a few cranks on cold start after sitting of all night... or when the waethers cold.. Im nt spending 200 dollars or more or a problem nature create... I dont over think. I actually pissed in my fuel tank and it the problem stopped
Didn’t work for me I had the same tool and tried the same methods on my 2000 v6 camaro
Intro song?
It is called Torn Jeans and it's part of the iMovie software for Mac

1999 Bird, stalls in reverse :(
I have to on my 2001 nissan path finder both line are not leaking gas but the lines smell like gas ? I dont know if i should change it or is that normal ? Help me please 😥

Mmm chicken.
4th gen camaros are not called rs its just v6
Jonathan Madera explain that to the “RS” badges on my front fenders.
Jonathan Madera
The 97's are probably RS but 98 V6's are not. I don't have RS on my 98 and have never seen it referred to as such. I wish it was though. RS sounds so much more cool.
The RS is the 3.8 after 95 and I believe it was called the RS all the way till 02
The 97 3.8 with ground effects is a RS all day long.
Thanks bro

i changed the fuel pump with the filter but it didn't work
Check fuel pressure. If it's not that, it could be any number of things. Maybe dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor. ادارة اليوتيوب
Dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor or even vapor lock the gas tank "hot" if the EVAP system isn't venting properly.
