    Thanks. I have a 98 Buick Century and it's sputtering frequently. The fuel filter has been replaced, spark plugs and wires. 2 coil packs. Cannister purge valve. And new crank shaft sensor. Cpl of these threw codes. I'm praying to replace that regulator, and hopefully fix my issue. You did a great job teaching how to go through it. Thanks!!

    Dude! Thanks for the info!
    This worked to fix rough idle and start for me too!
    Previous to that I replaced fuel pump & filter, spark plugs and wires, ignition module and all 3 coil packs (was getting P0300 code before that), and IAC valve

    Very close to three years ago now I got my parents’ sitting 99 Cutlass for my 18th birthday. I was too stubborn to pay someone else to work on it so that car is what got me into mechanics, which is now my heart’s trade besides serving the Lord.
    It was sitting for about 3-4 years before I ran it the first time, it ended up needing a head gasket job and for some reason it wouldn’t start, it had sat another 1.5-2 years before I first cranked it after disassembly. After testing other systems, I determined that there’s a fuel pressure drop and when you pinch off the return side it doesn’t drop pressure nearly as bad AND it goes above spec. It’s most definitely aiming towards it finally running again after I get a new FPR installed.

    Just picked one up yesterday for cheap went around fine yesterday for a couple hours besides a bit of a rough idle and the lagging start but started fine after work went out today stalled 3 times within a 20 minute trip so I’m definitely going to start With the regulator

    The regulator comes right out with the line still attached..just disconnect the quick connect & take out the torx nut on regulator leave the big nut & pull it out at the fuel rail ..it will come out without taking anything else off..sometimes that nut will be frozen on the line so its better to remove it from the fuel rail cause you can bend or break the mount..just wiggle & turn it she comes out

    My 04 century is in the shop right now, hard start, poor acceleration, fuel mileage in the toilet.
    They just called and said it’s finished and they replaced the fuel pressure “sensor” I wonder if they mean this regulator.
    My only concern is I did hear the fuel pump whining last week. Fingers crossed they’ve got it whooped if not I guess the pump will be next.

    Well definitely dont think this is my issue. My buick instantly starts when its cold, and then itll struggle to start later in the day (has yet to actually not start though, just cranks for a while) no idea what the issue is

  • @liljim5000
    @liljim5000 3 года назад +1

    Is it necessary to relieve the fuel pressure prior to removal?

    • @Gasolinegarage
      @Gasolinegarage  3 года назад +1

      There is a Schrader valve on the line going to the intake you can relieve the pressure there but as soon as you crack the line it will start leaking fuel

    • @stevooliver3877
      @stevooliver3877 3 года назад

      If the regulator is bad then the fuel pressure is lost after turned off..thats a clue you have a problem ..if you stop the motor wait 5 minutes & check if there is pressure
