I can't believe they got rid of the mohawk so soon, but her magically Sailor Storm growing out her hair & then manifesting her iconic tiara shows that she's claiming her supernatural heritage. They even showed Forge's shamanic power (I mean I thought they'd just keep it simple & keep him as the science guy). Literally a shamanic journey for both (& with Xavier as well), with Forge letting go of logical Western "science" to rely on the age-old wisdom of his mother & use faith to help his friend, Ororo accepting her past (her original costume), defeating her demons ("What are demons but reflections of our fears & shame") to let her move towards the future. Screamed & hollered when Ororo got rehabilitated. @@SiriuslyBlack7 This story is a MIX-&-MATCH of various storylines. But this specific costume in this episode IS Jim Lee's. '90s. When a Skrull impersonated Xavier & Lila Cheney teleported them all to space to save the Sh'iar.
1st xavier comes back, then vulcan comes back and will be angry that cyclops never looked for him, leading to cyclops hating professor x for erasing his brother from his mind.
This was one hell of an episode where the meaning of Lifedeath plays out so beautifully where you sacrifice one part of your life to accept something which is a theme for Xavier and Ororo. Also the rebirth, transformation with Storm literally is cinematic giving of that Man of Steel vibe with her taking flight. Also the cameos from Mar-vell during the Imperial raid was so awesome. If you watch the opening montage of scenes during the title credits we see events from X-Men: TAS; One Man's Measure, The trial of Jean Grey, The Phoenix Force, Beyond Good and Evil Lazrus Rising playing out as a way of continuing those stories. Xavier's monologue in the Astral plane as he sees Gambit being dead due to the events of Genosha attack was the last straw and he plans to take action.
Now its the calm before the storm. The fallout of the massacre. I love how this makes things tense like we know Scott is furious we just don't see it yet but its coming.
I haven't really heard or read anyone picking up on Charles Xavier's monologue toward the end of the classroom scene being an analog of a Carl Sagan lecture, @26:30. When he said, "says who, who made up these silly rules," is where I realized they crafted Professor X's monologue using Carl Sagan's words. Absolute brilliant writing his character through the voice of Carl Sagan in the context of the scene. Because much like Carl Sagan, Professor X's lecture about the Shi'ar Empire is a metaphor mirroring American Imperialism and what we've done in the world as a super power.
And I'm willing to bet that Charles was deliberately paraphrasing Sagan's theories to get his point across. Proving the power of education and adaptation of ideas.
Love the Storm transformation into her retro 70s outfit! Yay Nightcrawler in opening sequence!! Enjoyed the episode but wish longer to flesh Storm and Forge relationship! Seems like Sinister is behind the Genosha massacre but wonder if Apocalypse is also involved. Hope you feel better Coy!❤ can’t wait to get back to the aftermath of what happen in Genosha and more Cable. Wonder if the Shiar will play a role in season 2. Keep wondering if the Phoenix will play a role as they keep showing her in the opening credits
For me the only sad part of Storm's arc is that we never got to see her fight Cyclops for the leadership without her powers (which would fit in the current mood of Scott of being angry with humanity)
This episode is my favourite. This was a pure love letter to Chris Claremont's major contributions to X-Men: a showcase of both the epic cosmic drama and the smaller intimate character struggles. Genius episode.
This was an amazing episode. Storm conquering her Demons so to speak and regaining her powers and is probably one step away from being an Omega level threat and I'm excited to see what happens next Frfr. Awesome reaction fellas 👍🏾👏🏾👌🏾👏🏾
She's most likely already an omega-level threat. She was established as an omega-level threat at the beginning of the series and now she's even stronger because she's freed herself from the "lie".
Nimrod is pretty cool looking villian its a shame the fox universe never used him they just used magneto 3 times in a row then even used him in the rebutted universe
This was such a good episode - a lot of times in this show it feels like it could be so easy to be a bit cheesy or campy but somehow it really nails the ambitious nature of the XMen universe but plays it all completely seriously. So awesome
@@jasonthompson1604 yeah, just introducing the character here allows there to be time for the identity thing to build organically. Season 2 does seem about right
It's funny how the Shi'ar dislike Terrans but has one in their rank as a member the Imperial Guard,ha?. Is that double standard or simply being a hyprocrite against once own believes/rules ,ha?.
I mean it is but its doing it better. The original ssries was atill good but the last season sucked and every now and then we would get a couple bad episodes each season. Also the action is dated. Still love the series but xmen 97 looks better, written better and is better. @AzulApe
So, you noted 'They were dancing, drinking wine! Making love!" You referenced "E is for Extinction" That was taken direct from that story, where Xavier 'witnesses' the attack via Cerebro.
Though I like Xavier when I started reading he was long absent. Storm was powerless and possessed by Malice. She fought back freeing herself. Though, at the time, I didn't understand the history I became a fan. Storm is the X-Men I became a fan off the most.
My thoughts exactly, you can't just drop a bombshell of a reveal like that and leave it to dry. I'm guessing they got plans for that but here's hoping he won't be x men 97's whipping boy.
Thank you guys for powering through! I looked forward to this review so much! Coy, I hope you feel better soon, good sir, your comic book insight is always enjoyable to listen to.
This Episode was Fantastic!!! Seeing these two Love Stories happening at the same time was so well done! It was So Great to see Charles again! Storm getting Her Powers back was Such an Epic Scene! This Show keeps delivering Phenomenal Episodes and It's One of The Best Things Marvel Has Ever Done!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!!!!!
Now this is the X-Men that I knew when I started reading comic books in the 90's. So many nostalgic characters from the comics. This IS how it should be. I'm more PUMP with this series than watching trailers of the upcoming MCU movie.
@@Jumpoable yup. I watched all the episode of the Xmen when I was I kid. but my point is that some writers and directors made things complicated and don't follow the original comic book script which already infront of their noses. however in the movies, they make it MORE complicated where things don't aligned better. They mixed superstar actors and political views which kinda ruin the whole story with lack of characters, ruined origins, etc.
It’s so interesting that in the comics that post the white outfit, Storm’s costumes now heavily feature her crown in nearly every iteration afterwards: Xtreme, Uncanny, T’Challa, Utopia, etc.
I will say this about the episode, I'm glad Sinister is the one revealed to be behind the attack because it should remind us of a few points: it's fine to speculate based on clues and correlation to events in the comics, but those stories have already been told, so sometimes it makes sense to provide the nods and easter eggs to the characters involved in the original telling, but it makes more sense (for them) to sometimes streamline things. It is neater from a 10 episode season standpoint to make Mr. Sinister the overarching villain than to introduce Bastion or Cassandra Nova right now and do them full justice. We don't need to cram all the big bads into this season when we can save them as big threats down the line (or even reveal they did have a hand in the attack in some way, but not up front and center like C.Nova did in the comics).
3 Episodes ago: Madelyn: "We ARE our memories. You remember nothing, YOU. ARE. NOTHING!" Now: Lilandra to Charles: "You fought tirelessly to be tolerated and you were nearly killed for it, why remember?" They are very good at continuing not only story beats from episode to episode, but also themes.
Another solid episode didn’t have much comic accuracy this episode in terms of the Lifedeath comic. But Charles is Back. They Removed Gambit from the intro, added Nightcrawler, kept Cable and the apocalypse scene, added Nimrod and Master Mold and the X-Men fighting the Shi-ar. I did wonder how they fit into this episode, Forge in this scenario must be a replacement for Shani and Storm saving Forge is her delivering Shani’s baby.
Exactly. He even mentioned he wouldn't want to forget his friend Magnus so if he's seeing a psychic death vision, it would be Magneto's first & not merely Gambit's. Also, premonition that Gambit will become Apocalypse's new horsemen Death.
Nightcrawler was my favorite X-Man ever since the Sega game, and I was so sad he was only ever in one episode of the series - one that came after I stopped watching it regularly, though I made sure to tune in for that one. While I still dislike the tragedy of the previous episode, seeing Nightcrawler on the team and in the opening credits where I feel he always belonged definitely warmed my heart.
Whenever I see Lilanndra and Charles in the Shi’Ar throne rooms I think of Dune, why couldn’t the earlier X-Men movies been like this. X-Men 97 ROCKS whoooo. I absolutely loved, loved, loved Storm getting her powers back and her Astonishing X-Men 70s upgrade look. I loved what Charles said about all living beings born of the universe. A quote of being Children Of Atom. (the birth of the universe). Cosmic stardust and all that. Phenomenal writing. Forge tho haha with that Strange Magic ✨.
It's not Strange's magic. I guess they're tying it in with the MCU so all "magic" displays that signature look now. Forge has always been the science guy who kept denying his shamanic roots. But he ditched logical Western science & embraced the wisdom of his mother & ancestors to save his friend. Powerful stuff.
“No, they were dancing, drinking wine, making love… my children of the atom destroyed!” Sent chills down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of the Pulse nightclub shooting 😭
I don't believe Magneto is dead, or that they'll use some timey wimey stuff to fix Genosha. That tragedy needs to stay. I hope they bring Magneto back as the jaded villan he's been, and go into the Fatal Attractions storyline- Wolverine losing his adamantium and Charles(in the suit) shuts down Magnetos mind
Edit: also this show is amazing and i love it. I just want to say that i REALLY appreciate all of the people who have read all the Marvel comics and know all the lore i need to know to enjoy this show to its full potential. I watched XMen when i was a kid and loved it but never realized there was other media till there were 4million comics to read to catch up. 😂 Thank you for your Maximum effort. ❤
This episode had mad Easter eggs by the way, from forge and his shaman abilities, Vulcan. This show is great again thanks for the reaction guys feel better boy 😅
Gambit will return!! But as Apocalypse's horseman Death. I'm guessing Archangel and Cable will join up to help against the upcoming fight. It will probably be set up in the season finale? Also we saw Dazzler last episode, Nightcrawler in the intro, and Storm gets her old costume. All we need now is Colossus( Not Morph) to show up and we got the old team from the Konami X-Men arcade. Finally does anybody else want Psylocke to join the team?
In the end I remember like it was yesterday when Charles left the earth, to go with Lelandra. Where there he could believe that he died. But it is understood... that she went with Lelandra to increase the technology that she herself would make possible for her own good.!!! And I was captivated by seeing the teacher again with a new style.
I thoroughly enjoy 'watching' with you guys and your respective inputs. Acknowledging and giving credit to the writing and music cause they delivered! Was grinning right along with you both throughout Storm's "rebirth" sequence. I'm looking forward to the next episode - with you guys. And thanks again for the efforts put in. Very much appreciated.
9:56 you know I have to tell you honestly I like the fact that you don’t see a storyline beginning in one episode continuing in the next episode and you’re supposed to pretend that time has passed cause sometimes that’s hard to relay a series or an animation unless they tell you what it is, but the fact that life death started two episodes ago and continuing now gives you the impression oh time has passed so therefore you can partially accept that while time has passed and storm has feelings,s feelings for forge
“I am lightning” Storm is an Omega Level Goddess. Damn right, Charles Xavier class is in session lol. I freaking love it. X-Men 97 is fantastic. If possible, Marvel please bring back Spider-Man animated series, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, Spectacular Spider-Man & Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes.
🎉🎉❤❤ hey quick fun fact I just happen to find out on RUclips nine years ago on the Graham Norton show they had as their guests Taylor Swift, Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. So basically nine years ago you had dazzler and the X-Men altogether on TV. If you ever want to take a look at the episode, the reference is season 25 episode eight.
I was bummed when I didn't spot Magneto's and Gambit's title cards in the intro. The space scenes in this episode, especially at the start, gave me major Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes vibes. When Gladiator punched Deathbird, it felt like she'd had it coming for ages. Storm's comics accurate suit was used in the Pryde of the Xmen and Spiderman and his amazing friends episodes. And Storm's hair restoration powers... quite the upgrade! Absolutely loved it! 😊
probably for story, and not to self spoil whats coming. As you can see they added a bunch of other mutants in the intro. even nimrod. Seems they are playing the intro to the story that coming, and introducing characters this way. I still think gambit and Mags are alive... mags body was not seen, but gambit body is seen after taking his own made blast to the face.
Literally a shamanic journey for both (& with Xavier as well), with Forge letting go of logical Western "science" to rely on the age-old wisdom of his mother & use faith to help his friend, Ororo accepting her past (her original 70s outfit), defeating her demons ("What are demons but reflections of our fears & shame") to let her move towards the future. Screamed & hollered when Ororo got rehabilitated. She was NEVER depicted as THIS Goddess & THAT badass punk b*tch with the strongest will amongst all the mutants in any type of media apart from the source material (deplorably NEVER in the films, nor to this extent in the old cartoon). I swear most of the writers in LA nowadays have GONE THROUGH SHAMANIC HEALING SESSIONS & this shows in all of the best writing LOL.
Hearing Xavier react to the attack was cool. In the comic he was connected to Cerebro watching it, feeling every death. "No one saw it coming.; They were drinking tea, making love. All those lights going out, no one saw. "A bit disappointed who they picked as the fall guy, though a Trask was used to activate the sentinel same as the comic. Still expect to see Bastion or some other villain arrive as a final sanction when the sentinels fail.
"How very Rudyard Kipling of you." Not-so-fun fact, Rudyard (who wrote "The Jungle Book") also famously wrote "The White Man's Burden", which was the intellectual underpinning of the British empire's imperialism and colonialism, that it's "the white man's burden" to bring civilization across the world. Hence Charles bringing up "burdens". I literally said outloud "YIKES."
"they were dancing! Drinking wine! Making love!!" Easily one of the hardest hitting lines in the episode. They were happy. The dream was being realized. Peace was in sight, at their fingertips. And it was taken away
Gladiator was pretty cool with how fast he stepped in to protect Lilandra, and seeing Vulcan was awesome. But the Class in session moment with Xavier was pretty awesome.

In fact, it's just one of my favorite things they've ever done in general ever since the beginning of the MCU! It's just an incredible show! 9/10 for the episode this week!
@14:48 Xavier:"My God you ARE dramatic!" As he rocks his epic Jack Kirby-styled helmet/crown!!😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥
It was a Jim Lee design, but probably an homage to Kirby.
@@Jumpoable that's Jack Kirby's design,John Byrne era,from the 70's,the STORY is Claremont during Jim's run
@@SiriuslyBlack7 This story is a MIX-&-MATCH of various storylines. But this specific costume in this episode IS Jim Lee's. '90s. When a Skrull impersonated Xavier & Lila Cheney teleported them all to space to save the Sh'iar.
“You can bark later” 💀
Charles armor is pulled directly from Uncanny Xmen 275! Great call back
Reminds me of Lex Luthor armor.
I'm really enjoying that it feels like all the fandom has unified over loving this show. Haven't had that feeling since around Endgame.
Cyclops: "WeII, at Ieast Iife can't get any more complicated."
Vulcan: "Someone in the mood for a villain arc?"
I’m glad I’m not the only one that peeped Vulcan. The summers family tree is some of the most convoluted complicated shit i’ve ever seen
Richard’s and Summers family lines keeping the timelines less simple by far.
1st xavier comes back, then vulcan comes back and will be angry that cyclops never looked for him, leading to cyclops hating professor x for erasing his brother from his mind.
@@thewakandankingtchaka5331 And probably giving Loki, in his current situation the biggest of headaches.
Hell yeah seeing Vulcan was awesome. Gladiator was awesome too
Milky-way ghetto is one of my favourite lines😂
Same lmao
Fucking gold!!
Notice how prof x only saw Gambits vision and not Magnetos ….
I was gonna say this glad I’m not the only one paid attention to that. Kinda hints at magneto is still alive
@@Simplyartistic19 exactly!!
"Ghetto Milk way Galaxy" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Masterclass is in Session"...
I can't believe there's only 4 episodes left! Love the reactions!
Season two William season two
Storm’s suit up scene was great❤
Now its the calm before the storm. The fallout of the massacre. I love how this makes things tense like we know Scott is furious we just don't see it yet but its coming.
Red scott red scott
He is going full Magneto.
I knew that Professor X was alive and I am so happy that Storm got her powers back
All of us who watched the 90’s show knew
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to yeah we knew over 20 years ago
They pretty much gave some of the Cassandra Nova part of E is for Extinction to Mr. Sinister. Smart move.
Storm in her classic debut uniform…HELL YEAH! I’m all for it! And how beautiful was her reemergence…screw that how awesome was the entire sequence?
Deathbird the type to get mad that Taco Bell put onions on her Mexican Pizza.
I don't know what this is supposed to mean but it's not wrong
Lmao 🤣
Vulcan, aka Gabriel Summers is going to shake things up you heard it here first !!!!! I wonder if anyone else spotted him in this episode???
I just realized that Professor x is voiced by robot from invincible
Ross Marquand is everywhere seemingly, he's the Immortal, he did Red Skull in Infinity War and Endgame, he was Aaron on Walking Dead, he's amazing.
@@cable7152he was also Ultron/Vision in What If
Yeah dude is legit becoming one of the greats in voice acting
He does a lovely John C. Reilly lol
@alexgonzalez-fn9jb he is so good at impressions, he can do so many.
This episode was so cool! It was great seeing Professor X (Charles Xavier) return in this episode! 👍
Xavier like Cyclops and Gambit got a glow up. And love it. Mans does possess the greatest mind on earth
The moment I heard Shi'ar and Nimrod mentioned, I knew you guys truly grew up watching the original Animated Series and the comics. Subscribed!
These guys are great!! And super Knowledgeable about many nerdy things. ❤
Nimrod is pretty cool looking villian its a shame the fox universe never used him they just used magneto 3 times in a row then even used him in the rebutted universe
I find it interesting that even on a whole alien planet, Charles being a mutant is still considered being a freak.
Magneto definitely isn't dead, and when he comes back he's going be a villain again
This was such a good episode - a lot of times in this show it feels like it could be so easy to be a bit cheesy or campy but somehow it really nails the ambitious nature of the XMen universe but plays it all completely seriously. So awesome
I can’t BELIEVE we got a Vulcan appearance. If we get War Of Kings I might flip out
War of Kings was part if an amazing run. I could see them adding part of it into season 2 if vulcan and deathbird join
Yup X-men 97 is better than the original…..there I said it 👀
Yup
Perfect sequel
It’s a continuation of the same show and is literally following the same plot lines. 🥱
Nobody disagrees except for the blind, deaf & dumber.
16:08 Professor X had enough chairs in the mind classroom for the X-Men back home to sit in too🙏🏽
More excited about *Storm* Or *Professor X* In This Episode?!
EXCITED FOR BOTH
Yes
The goddess
Though I like Xavier when I started reading he was long absent.
Storm was powerless and possessed by Malice.
She fought back freeing herself.
Though, at the time, I didn't understand the history I became a fan.
Storm is the X-Men I became a fan off the most.
Both actually
The realest part of the episode to me was “Yeah, here’s Vulcan. Moving right the f*** on…”
My thoughts exactly, you can't just drop a bombshell of a reveal like that and leave it to dry. I'm guessing they got plans for that but here's hoping he won't be x men 97's whipping boy.
Professor X is back! I love that as soon as he had that vision he dropped everything and decided to go back. The X-Men really are like his children ❤️
Especially with The Music! And Sinister being involved with or behind The Genosha Massacre is very Interesting and I'm So Excited to see What Happens Next!
The title is '97 but this is PEAK X-MEN from the SEVENTIES & EIGHTIES, baby!!!!
Did you spot Nimrod inside the Master Mold in the intro? BASTION confirmed. :)
Yup saw that and it was so good. They showed events from One Mans measure which is where Nimrod tries to kill Xavier.
Well, mastermind was around well before bastion so not really a confirmation. I feel the clips in the intro are just adaptions from the og series
Bastion will be in the next episode
@@AramisHall Theo James is going to voice him I feel.
@@jasonthompson1604 Bastion was not in the OG series.
I forgot and thought I was watching DC Professor Xavier looks like Lex Luther in his Battle suit (come to me my Justice League)🤣🤣
This camera quality is super fire(what y’all use..?..?)
Great reaction💯‼️
Loving the X men content
The storm piano theme track gives me chills. They use it perfectly every time.
3 Episodes ago:
Madelyn: "We ARE our memories. You remember nothing, YOU. ARE. NOTHING!"
Now:
Lilandra to Charles: "You fought tirelessly to be tolerated and you were nearly killed for it, why remember?"
They are very good at continuing not only story beats from episode to episode, but also themes.
The silence at the end of the episode says so much 😂
19:13 The Shi'ar empire is an allegorical representation of real world imperialism and colonialism.
Milky Way ghetto is WILD😂
hope you feel better soon Coy, so nice to see this show really setting a great tone that animation is worth the investment cause ts is dope as hell.
Magneto is definitely alive. Charles has the vision of Gambit dieing but not Mags? Leech shut his powers off so the sentinel was no longer interested
This would be brilliant. I hope you are right.
Exactly. He even mentioned he wouldn't want to forget his friend Magnus so if he's seeing a psychic death vision, it would be Magneto's first & not merely Gambit's.
Also, premonition that Gambit will become Apocalypse's new horsemen Death.
@@Jumpoable yesssss
Deathbird: But he's Terran!
Me: Heh...Terran that azz up.
It was Giant Size X-Men 1/Uncanny not Astonishing
Yeah Giant Sized/Uncanny thanks
It's not Strange's magic. I guess they're tying it in with the MCU so all "magic" displays that signature look now. Forge has always been the science guy who kept denying his shamanic roots. But he ditched logical Western science & embraced the wisdom of his mother & ancestors to save his friend. Powerful stuff.
Forge was saying something about his Mother’s magic spells.
Bishop's mullet makes a comeback!
Love to see how Storm’s lighting changed color too❤
“No, they were dancing, drinking wine, making love… my children of the atom destroyed!” Sent chills down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of the Pulse nightclub shooting 😭
I also wonder if the appearance of Gambit as a skeleton in Xavier's vision foreshadows his return as Death, one of Apocalypse's Horsemen.
Could be or he is dead 😢
I don't believe Magneto is dead, or that they'll use some timey wimey stuff to fix Genosha. That tragedy needs to stay. I hope they bring Magneto back as the jaded villan he's been, and go into the Fatal Attractions storyline- Wolverine losing his adamantium and Charles(in the suit) shuts down Magnetos mind
Storm looks like a goddess I love her costume!!
Love Alison doing both voices. She does Adversary pitch perfect
I like how they reference Gambit literally being Death at 20:54 because in the comics he became Apocalypse's Horseman of Death once.
So that means that the rogue gambit ship is officially over?
Can't wait for storm reaction to all the crap that happened while she was away
The fact that they finally introduced Vulcan has me happy as hell!! Like finally the Ultimate Summers brother
Charles at his sassiest
Henry Cavill as Gladiator I'm calling it.😊
@Gus_MagnusIt’s just a casting request.Calm yourself….
I was almost expecting the Starjammers to make an appearance.
"they were dancing! Drinking wine! Making love!!"
Easily one of the hardest hitting lines in the episode.
17:03 her fucking THEME!!!!!!!!
