Love seeing Auther Baker takin the mixed reel to Jellybean Benitez and seeing The NYC Latin Freestyle Hip Hop culture dancing away! Video captured that 1980’s moment in time! Dope!
The best dance floor in NYC. I went to the Fun House every Saturday, 3 yrs in a row ' 82 to '85. Home of Jellybean Benitez, 92 KTU, The Webbo dance... I danced with Mr. T, James Brown. The Halloween party was legendary. The best bands, and oh, those lights !!! Best times.
I was there too those years every Saturday and one Friday I went to see Xena “On the Upside”. George Kranz New Year’s Eve. Planet patrol Halloween what great times. I watch this video often. I wish I would have bought cameras back then. I barely had money for the donut shop
One of the many reasons why I love New Order is the fact that they somehow embraced the early stages of NY hip hop culture by working with Arthur Baker and John Robie, who brought "Planet Rock" with Afrika Bambaataa.
True story, while Bernard was out of the studio one time, Hooky was trying some vocals on a track and Bernard walked in and freaked out. Said he hates it and from that moment on Bernard always did his own backing vocals.
In the beginning of the video, it was shot on Liberty Ave in Richmond Hills, Queens, NYC. You can see the old Lefferts movie theater which is gone today. Also the Pizza shop they used was on 126st and Liberty Ave.
Such an amazing video. It captures NYC in the 80's and also a British band visiting for the first time. Some of the last shots, it looks like Sumner's mind is pretty much blown...
This definitely wasn't their first visit to NYC, which was in 1981. This probably wasn't even their first visit to the Funhouse. They do look like tourists though, or aliens observing another lifeform and its rituals and customs.
@@bennyshambles Yes 3 years have now passed from my initial comment and I did learn that the very new New Order came to the US in 1981, and there are in fact videos that document this.

What a time and place to be young again! 80s NYC! Funhouse, Paradise Garage, Danceteria! Well jealous of those lucky enough to experience it. Luckily the most important part lives on for everyone to dance to…
I turned 52 years old this year. ... This song was introduced to me by my HS dj. It reminds me of the past music and disco era. And I still listen to it today. Although I disregard the message the group may have portrayed about it when it was first released on the original album.
New Order, Arthur Baker, Jellybean Benitez, Funhouse, pizza shop, bombed subways, iron-on crew t-shirts. The last shot of the band just watching the girl dance, they become the audience. This is the best. What's particularly crazy is that this is just a few years after Closer. Imagine if Ian Curtis had still been alive...
Too much to convey really, but for instance the band didn't get to the club to shoot their scenes until 7:30am in the morning. The club was still rocking... Get the book. It is great. Chapter And Verse.
The story is simply that the band scheduled a video shoot in the club for the height of the dancing, planning to arrive around 1 am or so, but after a few misadventures and partying, the video crew and band showed up at 7am. By that time the club was still rockin' and waiting still for New Order. But no one was upset and the filming when on as planned (really just them being there watching). I was amazed at a six hour delay but I guess that is Rock and Roll.
+David Garvin haha that explains why it's light out when they arrived at the club! I always thought it looked like they got there early although that would not make sense. Oh man NYC in the big club heyday - Limelight, Tunnel, Twilo, Club USA! The stories. Amazing I made it out alive and now live in comfortably in the burbs.
Really cool early new order song, love this period when the band were just beginning to experiment with synthesizers and drum machines (and when Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner got along haha)
Love how this video incorporated the story of the band (New Order) and a side story! Love the early 80s in NYC as New order sought a new identity!! Who would have thought that they would find it here where they were scheduled to come with Ian as Joy Division. Ironic!
These are my local boys. I was a hacienda kid, started going in the greatest night club ever when I was 16. New order of course owned it. The first time I heard confusion, it was almost like hearing 'looking for the perfect beat' with a few Mancunian lads doing their thing over it.. Absolute iconic tune for me. Jeeez they, and myself were so goddam young once...🤣🤘😎
I went to clubs in NYC and London in the early 80's. Both cities were amazing in music and will always love London. But, NYC had more of a variety and the huge dance clubs in NYC were amazing. I think Dance Music and HI-NRG Music were bigger in NYC and New Wave and Synth-Pop were bigger in London. Althoug NYC had it all

One of the many reasons why I love New Order is the fact that they somehow embraced the early stages of NY hip hop culture by working with Arthur Baker and John Robie, who brought "Planet Rock" with Afrika Bambaataa.
Baker let them use his Roland 808, which still had all the stuff he programmed for "Planet Rock" and "Looking for the Perfect Beat" saved in it.
