    One of the many reasons why I love New Order is the fact that they somehow embraced the early stages of NY hip hop culture by working with Arthur Baker and John Robie, who brought "Planet Rock" with Afrika Bambaataa.

    • @americangothic1313
      @americangothic1313 4 года назад +23

    New Order, Arthur Baker, Jellybean Benitez, Funhouse, pizza shop, bombed subways, iron-on crew t-shirts. The last shot of the band just watching the girl dance, they become the audience. This is the best. What's particularly crazy is that this is just a few years after Closer. Imagine if Ian Curtis had still been alive...

      @DavidInSugarLand 9 лет назад +8

      Too much to convey really, but for instance the band didn't get to the club to shoot their scenes until 7:30am in the morning. The club was still rocking... Get the book. It is great. Chapter And Verse.

    • @DavidInSugarLand
      @DavidInSugarLand 9 лет назад +10

      The story is simply that the band scheduled a video shoot in the club for the height of the dancing, planning to arrive around 1 am or so, but after a few misadventures and partying, the video crew and band showed up at 7am. By that time the club was still rockin' and waiting still for New Order. But no one was upset and the filming when on as planned (really just them being there watching). I was amazed at a six hour delay but I guess that is Rock and Roll.

    • @Gholden1972

      +David Garvin haha that explains why it's light out when they arrived at the club! I always thought it looked like they got there early although that would not make sense. It tells the story of the making of this video and how he was juggling two groupies at the time, as well as Ruth Polsky who was a well-known club promoter in NY. The heavyset bearded guy is music producer Arthur Baker who produced this track as well as Thieves Like Us and other NO tracks. The stories in the book are “mega” as Hooky puts it.

      What are you talking about? This doesn't sound like rap at all. Rap existed in a clear form all the way back in the late 70s.

    I believe that scene on the ramp at 1:49 is the Paradise Garage where New Order played 7/7/83

      +Dave Marin It was the Fun House, as you can see on the jackets of Security in the video. Maybe it was the same space? Not to contradict you, not to be rude. :) Paradise Garage, legendary. Before my time! I love this video for how it evokes that great gritty fun NYC in the clubs.

      +Arundel Mercure of course you are correct. I am old enough - I was too many nights at Fun House and Paradise Garage - both great places. The indoor club scenes are Fun House.

      +Arundel Mercure The scene on the ramp with the lights up the side at 1:49 is Paradise Garage. The scene with Arthur Baker in the club playing the record IS the Fun House. Two different scenes in the video; two different clubs in NYC. For some reason that's the way they edited the video.

    LOL, this was a favorite of mine in 1983 and in 1984 their hit Blue Monday, then fast forward to 1998 and the movie BLADE's opening Night Club Scene Song Confusion was the sole reason I bought that soundtrack and becomes my favorite song of the year, little did I know that it was a Remix of their 1983 hit which I loved 15 years prior

    So cool to see the great Arthur Baker & even a sneak peek of the loveable rogue Rob Gretton (RIP), New Order (& Joy Division) manager & the major impetus behind The Haçienda. Oh, how he would be lovely the performance of Manchester City/'Citeh' nowadays too & gutted by the acrimonious split between New Order & Hooky - btw, this os one of the ONLY times that you will see Hooky's hair the same (short) length as Barney's!!

    He was born in April 1955, and this video was released in August 1983.

    I better elaborate. Many want to know where I am coming from. The Fun House was packed. I didn't even know all the boroughs back then, or why they said that about the roof. It got everyone pumped, as people repeated it and yelled back to the DJ. Plus, when I heard this song, I thought they said something like Confucius. I don't think I saw New Order perform in the Fun House, but I am pretty sure I heard this song a few times. I was to busy dancing anyway. The flow of sounds and voices made the atmosphere. A word can bring back a time. The world had many greats in that grand time in Confucius day around 2,500 years ago. Biblical prophets, Zerazusthra, Buddha, etc... That grand time was brought into this cool song. I found out yesterday that Confucius's real name was Kong Qiu. His birthday came out on Yom Kippur yesterday. I thought to look up this song on you tube, because I was reminded of it by his name. This morning I found this video on You Tube. I learned New Order sang this song and they said Confusion. Well I was in that time and place with a lot of you about 40 years ago. Kong Qiu was there in a way, as that era came to the present in this song. We all meet here in this time on this incredible technology. Life is in the "try life zone". Aka, the undisputed art champion of the world.
