Yeah, it seems to me that Shadowminds is a bit closer to the Dark Tranquillity sound, but this song especially is almost entirely classic In Flames. Nevertheless, all of these songs are excellent Gotheborg metal, made by true legends of music. Can't wait for the album! And last, but not least, still a great reaction 🙂
@@gergelysimon7646 Totally agree with you, Shadowminds are more dark, more grim, but Feel what I believe and Days of the Lost feels more fast paced, have that signature from In Flames more clear. Still a freaking great headbanging band haha
No this isnt dt 2.0.This sounds like the colony In flames. You should listen to this record and you understand.Even the guitar setting sounds almost the same
Love you guys and totally respect your opinion but in my opinion Shadow Minds sounds like DT and Feel What I Believe and Days of the Lost are not only In Flames 2.0....they sound like Colony's unreleased tracks. Hearing Jesper's signature soundwork is exactly what's been missing from recent In Flames albums and really nails down what made those earlier albums so great. Respectfully, I am going to disagree with this take.
I haven't been this excited for an upcoming album in YEARS. This band takes my two favorite metal acts (Dark Tranquillity and OLD up through Clayman era In Flames) and mashes them together. I'm so damn excited. Even as someone who LOVES oldschool In Flames, I'll take Mikael Stanne's vocals over Anders' any day of the week, even in his prime.
I think it’s much like RECENT Dark Tranquillity AND Colony-kind In Flames at the same time. The modern production makes it more like recent DT and therefore the comparison to old IF is more difficult to make. Up to Colony IF production was harsh and not so high quality ”in modern standards”. However I liked the more natural quality back then. It kept the authenticity on top and more raw in your face feeling. But this one’s great, too!
Guys Guys ! Have you heard the album Colony by In Flames? this opening riff could easily be on that album! All of this screams In Flames! Way better than any album In Flames put out after Reroute to Remain. Greetings from Portugal 😁😁
The Halo Effect does not sound like DT at all...and if they should sound like DT which era? Mikael´s vocals are great, have you heard Lunar Strain from In Flames with him on vocals?
Guys thanks. Because you reminded my these guys existed i checked tourdates and got meself a ticket for the machine head Amon amarth the halo effect tour. Cant wait. It brings back enthousiasm i though left me.
This sounds like older In flames/dark tranquillity , but with better production. But in the same breath, its hard to even call this a super group since they've been in bands with each other lol🤷🏻♂
In my opinion the first two singles were HEAVILY DT sounding. This one however I do feel has much more of old In Flames. The riffage has a lot more of the melodic phrasing of old Jesper's style. However even in other projects Jesper hasn't been playing the same style from old IF, so perhaps the "blame" is on him?
Dark Tranquility, and In Flames are two of my favorite melodic death metal bands. Great reaction!! You should check out, Destinity band, you'd love them! They are underground kind of.
I don’t hear Dark Tranquility. I hear the original vocalist of In Flames and sounds from Whoracle, Colony, and Clayman together. They’re in about that era in the sound. All they would need to do is add Glenn Ljungström as a guitarist and then you would have Black ash inheritance and the jesters race sound again.
@@thepredator666qc4 based on what I’m hearing from them they’re going back. Times do change but that doesn’t mean they won’t go back to a certain sound or across all era’s.
nah, I completely disagree with the 'it is vocals' theory. Old In Flames was much more than just vocals, and it was mostly about Jesper Stromblads and Gelottes guitar work. This was most 'Inflamesy' thing, and we get quite a lot of it on this track. Anders was mediocre vocalist, and after 2002 he was actually abysmal one. This track can come from Colony album, and is much more than IF from that era, than anything from DT, despite vocals.
I'm with Antonio on this one, very true what he said. If you compare old In Flames and old Dark Tranquility musically it comes to nuances, like IF is slightly more played on major etc. Vocalist in this perspective makes a hell of change on whats going on with the song. Like others said already, the guitars we've heard on these 3 tracks by now, are very very close to the In Flames at the year 1998 +- some years and so on, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman era. All thumbs up to The Halo Effect!! Peace from Finland!
This song sounds like more In Flames than the last 2 songs. But yes, the vocals makes your brain think it's Dark Tranquility, but music-wise, it sounds like In Flames.

Unbiased opinion here. In Flames is one of my favourite bands, but i have never, to my recollection, listened to Dark Tranquility (dont ask me how this is possible, i realy dont know). So having said that, in my ears this album sounds A LOT like '96-'99 In Flames with different singer. So maybe the vocals do make it sound like DT for people who know and love them, but i get 100% In Flames flashbacks from this album. Hope this solves the father-son dispute. PS: Jesper is an icon, i was realy sad when he left In Flames, but if this album/band is the outcome, then i guess it realy was for the better of both sides (because In Flames are also looking back to form with their latest tracks released). Man this year is PACKED with Melodeath gems
That lead guitar hook in this song, and the one in Feel What I Believe, are 100% Jesper/Niclas early In Flames style. Shadowminds kind of lacked that and definitely sounded like Dark Tranquillity instead.
Well... Grand Cadaver doesn't sound like Dark Tranquility.... so i don't buy that argument about it sounding like DT, because of the vocals. The melodies remind me of In Flames circa Colony.
Agree, GC is traditional Death Metal with different production than the polished DT album sound. Don't sound alike at all, save for Mikael's signature growls.
I loved the song, sounds amazing! That said, if the band sounds so much like inflames or dark tranquility, specially if the singer does the same thing, I don't see the point or purpose of the project. I'm more into side projects in which we can appreciate another colors, such as nergal and me and that man or Corey taylor with stone sour. Probably, it's just a project to celebrate their friendship and it's not about bringing anything new to the metal universe, and that makes total sense. But... back to my point, even if I like their singles so far, I wish I could hear something different, I'm not even asking to them to play funk or soul haha..
@@thepredator666qc4 haha well, based on the opinions about the last few albums, I can get an idea hahaha.. and I'm not even a fan of IF or DT, but I'm pretty sure I would say the same if I were a fan of them.

These last two singles are a whole lot more IF than DT. You can hear Jesper's touch in those melodies, even if Mikael was not there. I can't wait for this album!
You know, THE guy of In Flames - Bjorn Gelotte is still in In Flames, that's why Halo Effect doesn't sound like In Flames 2.0, and also there are no great solos in these songs because of Bjorn not being there. He wrote almost every solo of In Flames.
@@romonhomin7367Well, at that time period from 90's to early 2000's yes. But I mean what is missing in The Halo Effect? Guitars solos, and that's why I said it's because of Gelotte not being in this band. And I said he is THE guy because without him In Flames would split up after Jesper left the band. He keeps In Flames going.
Sorry guys, but your whole conversation is about Dark Tranquility 2.0 or In Flames 2.0. That's not interesting for me as I know these two bands not very well. You should focus more on The Halo Effect as a new band.
Kinda hard not to talk about the elephant in the room. If you were familiar with them you would understand. I suggest you familiarize yourself with them to better understand what this band represents.
