  • This is the Spinning Sara method for making easy to spin Fauxlags from combed top. This method works particularly well for spinning very fine yarns. If you are trying to spin bulky or even worsted weight yarns, this might not be the method for you.

    Thanks for sharing this method! I tried it today (have the Ashford warping peg too, lol) and it’s working great. I absolutely love spinning from rolags but carding them up takes a long time, and making them on a blending board also takes longer and I experience that snarl from the two rods.

    Im soooo happy I found your videos! I just purchased a spindle yesterday and BFL roving because of the longer fibers for a beginner. I didn’t realize there was so much to learn, your videos are going to definitely get me on the correct path of this adventure. I love love knitting so this was my next step. I’m so anxious to start off right and with any helpful suggestions. So thank you so much for these wonderful videos!

    Thank you for this tutorial I'm new to spinning and was having issues with spinning directly from my top but now I think I've found a way to make drafting easier and manage my colors.

    This is such a great idea! I'm still pretty new to spindling and was trying to figure out how to make my own rolags as well as control color. Thank you for 2 lessons in one.

    Thank you so much for this video! I wish I had come across this method before I started my current spin project, because I really wanted to make a woolen yarn out of a slightly felted braid. I settled on hand fluffing and long draw, but I’m definitely trying this next time. I’m already thinking about all of the possibilities!

    Thank you so much for this! This has helped me tremendously to gain control while I'm drafting, and I love the airy feel of the yarn when I use the fauxlags as opposed to trying to draft in hand from a larger chunk of my fiber. I spent two hours tonight playing with this method and it was fantastic =)

    Love this technique! and Your point about how if you spin from the end you're going to pull out the fibres from longest to shortest leaving the merino at the end was soo helpful! I'm a new(ish) spinner and have had this happen but couldn't really figure out why. Can't wait to watch more of your videos :D

    Do you do this so there are blocks of color rather than having them blend? I only have drop spindles so are these practical for that type of spinning. Thank you for your video.

    I'm new to spindling, and have just got a support spindle, this made such a difference. As I'm rubbish at carding, could this be used on a wheel for spinning woolen spun sweaters? Thank you for such a helpful video.

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  4 года назад +3

      @janchambers welcome to the wonderfully wooly world of spinning! Happy to have you join us 🤣.
      Yes! You absolutely can spin these on a wheel for a more woolen sweater yarn. It won't be truly woolen, since you can only achieve that spinning long draw from carded fiber, but this will definitely get you a loftier, warmer yarn.
      Thanks for watching!

    Hello Sara, thank you for the video. It is very informative. Can you please give to me the size of the wood you are using?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 лет назад +1

      The dowel is 6.5 inches long and 3/4 of an inch thick. It is the warping peg from an Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom.

    Hi Sara, what is the diameter of the dowel you used? Thank you so much for sharing your video!

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 лет назад +1

      CJ Eisenmenger My favorite one was the warping peg that comes with an Ashford Rigid Heddle loom. I sold that loom so I no longer have the peg to measure, but if I were to estimate I would say approximately 3/4 of an inch.
