i just started to play again for fun and i have been trying find a summary for zerg. this was BY FAR the best summary, quick, informative and justifies each play style and counter... thank you!
Thanks for all the great content Lambo, I think so far your video ideas are spot on. If you ever make scripts for your videos in the future, it might be helpful for us if you share the scripts in the description, so we have something to refresh our memories. Looking forward to your future videos!
This might help me want to play more macro ZvP, as a 3.4-3.5k zerg I just started opening 12 pool in ZvP because before I started opening 12 pool, my ZvP winrate was around 34%, after I started opening 12 pool, my winrate increased to around 60% or so. Thanks Lambo! Also the other matchup unit comps are a nice refresher.
Hey on the ZvP lurker stuff, I recently did a roaching session where he mentioned a really interesting timing he would do vs toss. He'd hit a 6 lurker roach hydra timing pre hive to stop the toss 4th or just end an overly greedy toss off 72 drone. its pretty nifty if youre already planning on teching lurkers
that does not sound viable in the slightest for high level play(gm+). Pretty sure toss should be able to defend a 4th vs lurkers without the upgrade, also it sounds very susceptible to warpprism/zealot runbies and would delay the actual hive tech attack and weaken it. That being said if its more fun to be more active or if it works on lower levels because tosses missmacro that's cool.
@@LamboSC2 should have said it was a session with PiG lol hopefully sounds less troll with that in mind. He explained it as kinda skill checking/scouting the toss. If hes too greedy, he takes big damage. Otherwise its just kinda just a bit of pressure that needs to be multipronged off of.
@@jamescasey1994 I didn't think it sounded like a troll, but i believe if i did that vs a toss on my level i would get my main army amoved while watching10 zealots run into my 3rd base and the protoss being up in workers. But i don't know what the game looks like 2000 mmr below me, i think generally the easiest gameplan is to rush out hive asap and attack with lurker range (+Speed if you scout no super early fleatbeacon) before Carriers are out, but if this works for you as i said thats fine and i don't see anything wrong with it. It definitely sounds more fun than staying afk a little longer and then going for the one punch kill :)
Hello Lambo, your videos help me greatly as a new player. Really appreciate all the content, that i get to watch now. I was wondering if this video is still mostly accurate or if things have changed drastically?
Zerg academy is my favorite series... I really don’t get why is the algorithm against your channel as it never recommends me anything even though I’m subscribed.
Lambo thank you so much for your dedication. With queens unable to transfuse off of creep after the last patch, how will I all in a Protoss going straight into void carrier? Queen hydra does not sound viable without transfuse
If you want to do Lair all ins, you can just make overlord speed and bring overlords for creep so you can tansfuse. The proper all in to counter voidray into Carrier builds is Queen Corruptor Ravager Ling, however depending on your level queen hydra might do the job aswell.
That depends on the unit composition you are asking about, generally also you would never have 72 drones with 8 gas ever unless youre playing mass muta. You can all in with 66 drones or less with RoachRavager Based timing like the Taxi but if you are talking about a normal trading style like hydra bane or ravager bane you usually are supposed to go up to at least 80 drones at the very least with 6 or 7 Gas. Whereas if you want to do a Lurker timing you should at least be fully saturated on 4 Base with 8 Gas.
@LamboSC2: Is there a good time to scout to figure out how large the commitment to Mutas is? In some games I'll be going for Hive and wanting to get to Vipers, but then the opponent just makes 8 Mutas and then maxes on Roaches while I have a lot of wasted investments in anti-Mutas (High Queen count, High Spore count, Hive, etc).
you can scout for that at any moment with lings, but even if you do not scout it you should notice the muta count stops growing very fast. And even if you did invest alot into queens it should be pretty easy to hold.
@@LamboSC2 Awesome thanks! I think my issue before was that I go Queen/Hydra vs Mutas and then transition to Hive (I suck vs Mutas as you can probably guess from this), which it sounds like is not only bad vs MLB, but is also bad vs Muta into Roach because I'm using 150 resources to make a unit while my opponent is only using 100 resources so they just have more than me =s.
What about hydra baneling versus muta ling bane? cause y'know banelings are good against banelings also the person with mutas usually has less economy at least in my games because I attack with roaches as soon as I scout muta, and because the mutas don't have enough dps in small numbers I can usually just kill the third and 20 workers at least
Well Banelings are not a very solid way of dealing with opposing banelings sadly. The Muta player also is supposed to have a higher economy than the roach player, but even if that wasn't the case you simply cant deal with banelings coming in from multiple angles with your own banes, if there is any level of micro involved whatsoever Hydra bane definitely doesn't work vs Muta ling Bane :(
I'm not sure what exactly your level is, but the correct way to play against that would be to just go lategame with a free advantage. If you don't like that you can instead try and play Muta Corruptor with fast 10 gas.
@@LamboSC2 Around D2. Forgot to say he also always goes for a forge first which annoys me even more since I know that would put him even more behind. Also nice to see you are still active m8 we are all looking forward to more uploads
as I said in the video multiple timed you guys simply shouldn't go lategame. Rather focus on macroing properly and killing your opponent and if you want to do it anyways watch the part where I talk about it in the video!
Against that most armies with an overseer are great. The ultimate counter would be Lurkers, but depending on your level roach hydra or ling bane based armies work very nicely aswell!
I would even say there are multiple "turning points". Roach Hydra Infestor may be the more beginner way to deal with Mutas in ZvZ and even though Hydras are bad vs MLB in general without support if someone was Bronze or Silver I would say just go Roach/Hydra if they go Mutas, go Roach/Ravager if they go ground, I don't see Infestors working for a Bronze player. There are probably multiple turning points in Masters/GM/Pro. Maybe a pro can play BL/Infestor/Corruptor/Viper/Queen/Spore vs Skytoss+Storm, as yes it's better below that to not let them get there, but there are levels to this. A Diamond or below player could probably just BL/Corruptor, attack click Carriers with Corruptors, a-move Broods, the Diamond level Skytoss player may not go into Storm and may just mass air. A Low Masters player can maybe add 1 spellcaster or spores. So BL/Corruptor/Spore or BL/Corruptor/Queen (transfuses) or BL/Corruptor/Viper (abduct and parabomb) or BL/Corruptor/Infestor (Neural and Fungal). Then at High Masters add on one more piece, Mid-GM add on one more piece and at High-GM to pro play with all 6 "pieces". There are also comps that sue microbial shroud that can work below GM or even in GM (just not pro play).
a couple of vipers would be the hardest counter with parasitic bomb, but honestly hydras queens infestors mutas all do very well against them aswell, and on the ground every zerg unit beats vikings.

I don't think Vikings counter Corruptors very hard, it's a very soft counter imo. I just tried it in unit tester and with 10 Corruptors a-moved vs 10 Vikings the Vikings win with 1 Viking remaining. Upgrades may scale a bit better for Vikings, but not by that much, I tried with +3 +3 vs +3 +3 and the Vikings won with 2 Vikings remaining. Sure a Viking is very slightly cheaper than a Corruptor (25 gas), but I still wouldn't call this a hard counter, they're both 2 supply units so in an even game Terran can't really have more Vikings than you have Corruptors. In a-move vs a-move, Lib/Viking is actually scarier than just Vikings because when there are enough Libs out the splash becomes insane. If you pre-split and a-move in though the fight again becomes pretty even. Since you're talking about pro play though we can assume Zerg can control double spellcaster. A couple Parasitic bombs will put the air fight in Zergs favor. There is also the possibility of Fungal+Parasitic Bomb. If Libs are Sieged to deal with Infestors you can always abduct them out of Siege mode. When talking about an ultimate late game comp it more-so comes down to control. Fungal + some Banes counter Ghosts, but EMP counters Infestors. Snipe can kill Vipers, but an abduct can kill a Ghost, an Infestor can Neural+EMP Ghosts, etc, etc. BL, Corruptor, Viper, Infestor, Queen, Spore I'm pretty sure can deal with anything, it's just brutal to control. Also there isn't really a limit to Spores
@@richardgallimore5976 Great explain! I did a test with vipers and overlord group, I found that vikings always prioritize your vipers. So if you cast a spell, you may probably lose that vipers as the spell range is the same as the vikings. Isn't it?
