  • Mustela is proud to be present throughout the entire avocado sector in Peru - from farming to processing - which creates a positive impact both locally and in our laboratories.
We have chosen to give priority to organic farming whenever possible, which, in addition to providing farmers with an extra source of income, also ensures complete supply chain traceability and less polluting farming methods. Ancestral irrigation systems enable sustainable management of water resources, with no known impact on local populations’ access to water. Fields are governed by permaculture systems based on common sense, experience, and tradition. Farms like this are one of many that supply Mustela® with avocados and that are supported by the brand throughout the year.
In any avocado production, some fruit will be too small or not pretty enough, or unsuitable for export as edible fruit: these will be upcycled. Mustela only uses avocados that are unfit for export as food for its products.
The “unfit” avocados collected at the Lima production site are selected, washed, sliced, and dried, before being pressed into oil and avocado cake (the dry powder from which Avocado Perseose® is made). The entire avocado - fruit, pit, and skin - are used, to extract all its benefits.
Upcycling is necessary to rationalize production, avoid waste or unnecessary steps. We have successfully met the challenge of extracting 6 ingredients from avocados, thanks to a unique, innovative process of transforming the whole avocado fruit and recovering its own co-products.
The fruit, transformed into oil and oilcakes, is then shipped by boat to France, where it is used in the production of Mustela products, especially for our Multi-Purpose Avocado Balm, at the company’s plant in Épernon.
