I’m obviously glad they survived. But I hope this experience taught this guy that he can, in fact, tell his daughter no sometimes. The 11-year-old was making all the decisions even before the accident. Although the father wasn’t making any better decisions than she was. The difference is, he should have known better.
You make a great point. One of the most important parts of parenting is the ability to say "no" despite how hard it can be. On the other hand, I think we can both agree that if his daughter didn't have this type of personality, they almost certainly would have perished.
i lost my father a few years ago... watching this smart little 11 year old girl not giving up on her father dragging him with all her body strength as he lies with a shattered knee in the water... she brought tears to my eyes. no one understands the adoration a daughter has for her father. i hope my daughter and i have the same relationship
so sorry for you're loss. I to lost my dad. I have a very close relationship with my 25 year old daughter and 20 year old son😊. I'm sure you will have a close relationship with your daughter hun.
At 11, I was scared even walking on a back road NEXT to the woods at night. I can't imagine walking through the woods out in the wilderness, with wolves howling nearby. I don't know if I would have been able to walk at all with my feet in that condition. I am super impressed with that girl.
So was I, I hated walking down the back road next to the woods to get back home on time it was the fastest way back home, and I wanted to be home on time so my mum would let me out the next day. I'm 42 now and still I hate walking anywhere in the dark 😊
The fact the police wouldn't go look for a father and his child til after 24 hrs is absolutely infuriating. Certain parts of the world should be exempt from that. In places with extreme temps, hot or cold, plus the dangers from animals, should be an automatic reason for searching immediately! They know that even without the animals, the exposure alone kills ppl every day. I would've lied my ass off "yep they've been missing almost 2 days officer and they have illnesses requiring meds, cancer and seizures and diabetes, oh and my husband has a pacemaker etc etc". Charge me with false reports all you want, atleast my loved ones are home and safe.
Agreed. As Canadian I also found it ridiculous that police wouldn’t go out looking for a father and young daughter on a snowmobile in freezing winter conditions. Obviously if they haven’t contacted their family something must be wrong!
So police should risk their own lives on an unplowed track in the dark on the coldest night of the year? Actually, the cops wouldnt know what track they even took.
@@raerae6422 it’s not about police risking their lives. Their job IS to risk their lives. If they didn’t what’s the point of them!? The point in this case is that their policy was that people had to be missing for a full 24 hours before they could be declared missing which would trigger a search
@@raerae6422It would most likely be a highly qualified and trained search and rescue team that would be looking for them. But even if not, YES, the police should be looking. They knew where David and Leia started and where they were going. With a little effort, they could have found the first hotel they stopped at and gotten information that they were planning to head to another one, and which one it was. The police could have gotten very close to where David and Leia ended up, and it's not like there are myriad trails headed in that direction; there are just a few. Also, the police could go out in pairs or groups to be safer, and they would all have radios and guns in case of emergency. The risk to their lives would have been extremely small. Helping people is the JOB, and HELL YES they should've been looking for those two!
@@raerae6422 well, according to your reasoning, police/rescuers should not start their search on unplowed tracks until when, they get plowed? Well, never mind that 24-hour holding pattern, which is absurd when a child is missing. This means police may not start their search until the snow melts, should the tracks not get plowed. I don't think so.
Yeah, really. So many people in the comments are acting all high and mighty about how they would've said no to continuing the journey to go to another hotel. Yes, they had one bad judgement and paid for it with part of Lea's feet. They made a lot of other wise decisions in some truly awful conditions.
I came from the episode where a man ate his dog in the amazon, i judged the f out of him & dont regret it. Thats the only episode iv judged the person harshly so far. Thats unforgivable to me. Just glad this one didnt eat the other.
@@kylaevans5928oh my god and can i add that one episode where this family got lost in the arizona desert, the father went to find help and instead of staying or going where the mother knew where help was, she decided to follow her husband a day later and ended up getting lost. that woman made a bunch of mistakes anyone should know not to make in a situation like that, and ended up saying her and her kids’ survival was mostly because of her love?? that episode is the only one that’s infuriating to me. eugh
I'm having a hard time getting over the fact that this guy couldn't give his daughter a sensible and gentle "no" when she wanted to travel on, despite him having already weighed the pros and cons of traveling further that day. Then, after already making this miscalculation that is clearly already a risk in his mind, he pushes through and breaks trail - at night, in sub-zero temperatures, with no survival gear, while responsible for a loved one. 😫I'm happy for them that they made it out alive but for the love of all that is holy... Sometimes it's smart to turn back. You'll survive your disappointment.
At the part where they lost the trail and he kept going, I was honestly thinking are these people stupid? If you are alone go for it but you have your child with you and still go on. I dont get it. Its child endangerment and sheer negligence. I cant between this one and the couple who took their kids into the desert with snacks and a couple of water bottles and a dead cellphone. I cant.
@@thenellierose OMG this guy from the city decides to take his new girlfriend and her five and nine urs old into the middle if the Arizona desert for a picnic. Brings a dead cellphone, a lunch hours worth of water and food and tries to drive a vehicle down a steep embankment and disables the vehicle. Dunning Kruger award with that one!
He reminds me of my father, willing to do anything to give me a good time, adventure and lasting memories. They are both such amazing ppl! Be happy, healthy and safe!
This guy was not smart. He let his 11 year old girl decide if severe weather was worth the risk. Any intelligent and rational would have postponed that foolhardy trip
Little princess didn't want to stay in a hotel with no pool and what a disaster that would be!. So he risks both of them and you call him a good father? lol
For me, the worst ones are when they have no water in the blistering heat. I feel like I'm suffering along with them, and I have the constant urge to chug water. It's such a relief when they are finally found and given water.
Sometimes you gotta be the parent and think about what’s best for your kids and you. Safety is always first. You’re in extreme conditions you should have stayed at the first hotel. I don’t know why he stayed on as well he should have bailed off the snowmobile
I was thinking the same thing! I did not understand why he stayed on after he pushed her off. I also don’t understand why he kept his hand on the throttle when he knew that his ski was stuck on that rail. Why not just stop?
Of all of the ISBA episodes, this one is my favorite because not only they survived the ordeal, but one of them was also bestowed the Star of Courage, one of Canada's highest decorations. That decoration is historic because it is a medal embodied by Canada as a whole, and having it in your possession is a feat of honorific proportions.
Second time I've watched this. It blows my mind that an 11 year old in Canada who snowmobiles didnt know anything about frosbite and that her dad, 40+ years old, never asks about the condition of her feet the whole time they are out there. It's entirely possible they could have been saved. However... they lived!
This story is so very touching, father trying his best to protect his daughter, Leia, under extreme circumstances. And Leia.... what a trooper at age 11. How scared she must have been, seeing her father getting injured and then going out on her own, twice, to seek help during a stormy, wintery night in the middle of a forest full of wildlife. What an amazing and brave young hero, showing the world this young lady can overcome anything.
I would like to give credit to Leia’s father. 1-Loving relationship with daughter. 2-Wants to make her happy 3-Works hard to provide 4-Keeps his word. On trip after accident : 1- Throws her off snow mobile so she doesn’t get hurt 2-Came up with solution after solution to save them 3-Cellphone 4- Pulling himself up to the road 5- Make a fire 6-Go get clothes to keep warm. 7- Cuddle together for warmth. 8- Go for help 9- He stayed awake for her 10-Stayed calm and reassuring for his daughter. 11-Mental determination to survive 12-Gave her his only glove 13-Prayed for them. 14-Kept her calm and confident. 15-Tried to stand and walk. 16-Used a metal sign to chip the ice from her boots so she could walk to get help. 17- Gave her correct instructions “always turn right at crossroads “ 18-saved her life. 19-Saved his own life. 20-Raised a brave, good, kind, loving, responsible, loveable, courageous daughter. Well done Good Father!!💕🙏💕
It's nice that he has such a close relationship with the daughter, but for him to be picking favourites over his son, and leaving him in the lurch, is not something a "good father" does. A good father loves both of his children, and doesn't treat one of them like chopped liver. Probably the kind of guy who gives his daughter a Ferrari for Christmas, while giving his son socks.
Letting children make logistical decisions that should be undertaken by adults is what’s wrong with society today. Parents fall into guilt trips for working so much that they endulge their childrens every whim.
Why did you stop producing new episodes of this most educated lessons of human endurance and determination in the event of life and death situation? I have learnt a lot on what not ignore when you are planning a road trips, lost in the jungle or desert, what I don't how to survive it is the ocean. I am a lazy swimmer despite swimming all of my life.
I wonder how much technology has impacted the amount of people that don’t survive cases like these. If you think about it, technology that can save people from situations like the ones shown in these series has developed a tremendous amount. The availability and coverage for cell phones, internet, etc. has increased and continues to do so. There’s also more widespread usage of drones, and the technology they can use for search and rescue missions has also increased a whole lot. There’s definitely a stronger chance of survival because of this tech. There’s also a stronger chance that a person reaching out for help will be located due to the fact that your cell phone can help first responders locate you within just a few feet. Just around five years ago, a call to 911 wouldn’t be able to be narrowed down nearly as precisely. These are all think which have undoubtedly saved lives by allowing people to announce they need help, and help make sure they’re found in time. Technology has certainly saved many lives. I just wonder how many people’s lives have been save with these developments.
This father's decision to listen to his young child about going to the next hotel in poor weather conditions instead of being the adult and making the safest decision, cost his child most of both of her feet. She paid a hefty price for having a weak ass parent....
@@Ifyoudontknownowuknowbruh you've obviously never been to the woods like ever. When there is that much snow and it all being blowed around everything is soaked. You're not getting a fire from just soaked wood and winds blowing. But there is one option they couldve done with ONLY wood. They couldve picked some twigs, dried them out close to their bodies in their coats. Then when they wanted to build a fire, they could pull those out to start one.
Going to the next bite wasn’t the problem…. They were going down the paths regardless, the problem was that he didn’t turn around when it started getting bad. Also, freak accidents happen
@@Berserk1Manga I think they meant he should have said NO when the girl wanted to go to the next hotel because of the heated pool. I would have said NO too.
It seems to me this is the one thing that a parent needs to learn how to do. My parents did it well. SAFETY came first above wants! It kept all four of my siblings and I alive through years of camping, hiking, biking, swimming in the Ocean, rivers and lakes and boating. The Word NO worked for us just fine, kept us alive.
Good thing he allowed his young daughter to have her way, instead of doing what was smart and safe, but unpopular with a child... 😑 The narrator said "like any doting father, he couldn't say no", but the truth is that, like any weak father, he chose not to man up and control the situation. I recognize that, in modern society, sticking around to be a father to your children has become a rare virtue, but that doesn't excuse his failure to lead.
I think the bigger mistake was the fact he decided to go off trail to save time as opposed to his decision to continue to travel becuase the hotel was without a heated pool. The crash they wound up in was due to snow covering the railing, and had they stuck to an official trail, either traffic or maintenance would have most likely meant such obstacles would not have been covered in snow nor present to begin with.
@@Herbert-s7c This guy had no wisdom and that is the problem right there. He knows he needed a satphone but brings a cheap nokia flipphone. there was an 11 year old girl involved and it's actually a misconception that you have to wait 24 hours especially if she told them they went out on a snowmobile. that cop or 911 operator was either lying or being lazy.
Are you sure you’re thinking about Canada and not the US? This might have been the case during the time this incident occurred. Changes could have been made since then. With this girl getting the recognition she did, it would be very probable that there was a push to make changes, and allow search and rescue operations to be deployed before someone’s been missing 24 hours. It’s often big cases that get the government and media’s attention that wind up making changes.
What a champion she is!, so brave and great attitude. even though she lost part of both feet she is still happy to be alive and thank God for giving her a better then the doctors expected scenario.
Minus twenty-something degrees on a snowmobile knowing you’re going to be on unfamiliar trails 700km long and not even an emergency blanket or sleeping bag👏🏼👏🏼
You clearly weren't paying attention. They had all of the things. It was under water strapped to the snowmobile and the daughter couldn't get to the items.
I thought they were travelling light with just clothing and maybe a blanket. I think they should have travelled with enough to spend the night outdoors if that were to happen. In the Canadian winter, I’m surprised they decided on travelling “light”. What an unfortunate mistake.
One of the best episodes yet- imo. That little girl is impressive- and just as sweet as she can be- I'm glad she's o.k. and I hope she does well for herself. Glad the dad lived as well- of course, he went through hell. I shattered my knee, but I was 17 years old and riding a skateboard at the park so- I got immediate medical attention and pain killers and pretty nurses, all that good stuff. So, I wouldn't compare it to what he went through- at all, but I do know what the initial pain is like any way- not good. I don't recommend it.
Loving the pure Canadian accent 😮😊 Also, how these days, trying the mobile phone is usually the FIRST thing people think of in a moment of need, not this guy! The phone was an afterthought which is a nice change 😂
Oh my Lord, this girl is amazing, so strong. I can’t believe I’m crying so much lol. I’m just so glad both of you came out alive and I honestly feel like her father telling her all her life that “if you are ever lost in the woods just always go right” was almost like a premonition he had, in preparation for this very incident. If he had not given her that advice, then she would never have made it to that town to get help. The same sort of thing happened to me, my dad had always told me when you are on the highway, always stay in the right lane and that way if there’s somebody driving in the wrong direction he will be less likely to be hit if you are in that right hand lane. And sure enough one night I was driving home at midnight and I was in the right lane, and some drunk driver suddenly was on MY SIDE of the highway driving in the WRONG direction doing at least 140 km full blast in the left lane next to me! If I had not been in the right lane like my dad had always drilled in my head, I would’ve been dead at age 20 from a head-on collision!! Just like Leia’s father said, it was not my time yet and it was not their time yet. Anyhow, amazing story, so proud of Leia. A real hero 💕
I just don’t consider sitting on the back of a snowmobile in subzero temperatures all day long to be any fun… I can see how stopping at the hotel might provide some amount of enjoyment and spending time with your workaholic father is what she’s so desperate for… Starved for attention from a workaholic father to the point of exacerbating situations…
These long, multistage snowmobile trips are a thing in canada. Kind of neat, really. They also have multiday cross country ski trails with reserved huts along the way... at least in Quebec.
a 1 hour trip is across country?? clearly no concept of distance. Do you take emergency supplies when leisurely driving through the woods on MARKED and supposedly PLOWED trails??
@@jacobfreese47 Are ya deaf dumb & blind? They set out for a lot more than an hour…. Hence why they were heading to a motel….on their annual snowmobile trip. And besides…… even if you’re going for a casual one hour hike in the bush… still wise to bring some basic survival items…. Like a knife & fire. 😉
They don’t get more French Canadian than this guy. 😂. They should make a South Park character after him. The eegit that took a child’s advice on going cross country on a sled in minus 30
Progress walking in deep powder snow is very slow, especially without snowshoes....its quite slow even with snowshoes ( skis are much faster) she walked on trails that, together, went in an arc... and you can hear long distances over the flat surface of a lake.
How did neither of them think to make a tourniquet for his leg before climbing the slope? And as far as the fire, come on! Collect enough wood and twigs first, then build it, then light it with the precious map.
I actually know somebody who owns a wolf. They rescued it when it was abandoned, thinking that it was a puppy raised it and believe it or not. The thing is actually crazy kind.
The two of them were saved independently. The little girl isn’t the one who caused that family to stumble upon the dad. She could have just stayed with him and they would have been rescued together. In this situation the best chance of survival is to hunker down in place. The daughter risked her life unnecessarily and didn’t change the outcome. The dad put her in a dangerous situation and then made it worse over and over again with terrible decisions
That's not how I read it... the daughter was rescued then she sent help after her dad. Since this family was kitted out to rideand recover someone they volunteered to go get him.
Is this even a true story?! 🤔 As I began watching I was thinking words like child endangerment! As an adult he thought it might be too cold; but left the decision to an 11 year old! 🙄 Arrived at the motel. I totally expected to hear 'I have reservations...' but no. What I heard was "do you have vacancies?" Seriously?! Travelling in such hazardous environment with an 11 yr old and he didn't book accommodation?! Irresponsible! 🙄 Then he let an 11 yr old decide to continue travelling even though it was getting riskier by the minute. What? He was not capable to act like a responsible father and decide what was best for his daughter's safety?! It was 'more important' that she gets into a hot pool?! Then look what happened! Lousy father!
Infuriating!! She was mere yards from a house yelling "Help"!! Dad has no idea and "guides " her all the way back to him!! Ridiculous!! Also I agree, don't do as the child wants in this hazarduous situation, be the responsible one...say "No".

Never bend the rules of the trail for something your kid wants---they will live without a convenience. My parents said no alot when it came between a convenience of something we kids desired and safety. Safety came first. We camped, we swam in the Pacific Ocean several times a year for a couple of decades. Hiked, swam in rivers and lakes. There were four us siblings to keep track of too. All of us are alive today, growing old. I am glad my parents were never afraid to say NO--and put SAFTETY first no matter how much we pleaded and whined for something or about something. Had our parents given in to our "wants" or desires it could easily be that they would have lost one or two of us. It seems to be that most of these mishaps are from poor planning and then not understanding or being properly prepared for accidents having survivial training. One thing my parents always were prepared for was emergencies and first aid and plenty of water--lots of blankets--maps, compasses. As we traveled in the time of NO cell phones and no satellite phones too. All we had as us in the car--no radio either. Once we left home, we relied on pay phones on the road. Anyone remember those? I do not know if there are even anymore of those around anymore. Still we did fine.
What a brave little girl! i would of been terrified, they were very lucky to have survived their ordeal! It shows to be prepared when on outings! and to know where a head of time.As soon as they seen it was an un used trail,un kept, they should of turned around. But i guess easier said than done in the moment. Glad they got through it alive ❤👍
What a terrible father! I'm amazed he left the hotel just because she wanted a hot swimming pool which is her passion which shows how spoilt she must of been and he obviously never sees her so feels guilt and lets her do whatever and the fact he doesn't have the same relationship with his son who os jealous shows how messed up this is and like the way the video shows it sneakily
Dad is has a serious problem with critical thinking. why didn't he slow down? Why didn't he just turn around back to the other motel Why did he listen to the whims of a stupid kid wtf
We've all pushed ourselves further while on trips, thinking we'll get just a bit further. Won't second guess that decision. But, once the accident happened, there were a few things which could have been done to get a better ending. That he had a lighter was very good fortune, that he didn't know how to create a wind break to keep a fire going was a bit shocking. His outdoorsiness must be limited to operating fuel injected engines. More effort should have been put into the fire. When he sent her back down to the skimobile in the creek, I didn't think it a wise move, unless he was certain the portion of the vehicle needing to be accessed was on their side of the creek. It was that move which resulted in her foot losses. When he couldn't get a cell signal, he didn't look around to see if a tree could be climbed by her safely enough, possibly to a point at which a signal might could be found. She indeed was brave. I wouldn't have crossed that lake, clinging to its border instead; of course, the lake crossing proved futile. I couldn't understand how the mother didn't call the lodge, I had the impression that there were few along the way. Asking for their help could have made the difference.
Girls are normally very close to there father's,and sons the opposite,it is to do with life balances, but, never the less, daughters can be very strong when it comes to there dad's, wonderful kid !
He didn’t listen to his instinct that he should delay the trip. The temperature was below freezing. Accidents happen. He wasn’t even prepared. I hope she learned a lesson, to listen to instincts. And what about bears/other wild animals?
I have a problem with rescue services. Leaving it 24hrs is one Not searching at night is another. Giving them up for dead. Family not doing all they could. I seen other rescue services who saved people BECAUSE they did all of these. It’s not as if it’s an everyday thing . There are certain times in our lives when we have to go the xtra mile, sacrifice something for a greater good, take a chance, follow a hunch, trust your gut feeling, have faith in a miracle, pray for a miracle, step out of your comfort zone, try something new, for the greater good. It’s far worth it and cause for celebration!♥️🌲❤️
as a mum to an 11 year old girl this kinda makes me mad of the risks he took not and being enough prepared with a child along... esp with an ex hubs likes to take the kids on outdoor adventures with some risks i don't agree to
That's what providers and good fathers do. They work hard to give you a good quality of life ❤ they are a gift, it's hard to be without, but when you get older, you understand their sacrifices ❤ that's ❤
A passion for heated pools? So dumb. I understand she was a kid but almost getting your dad killed cause you have a “passion for heated pools” I cannot 🤦🏻♀️
I Love this guy's devotion to his children, but his optimism could get him and everyone killed someday. Had they stayed in the lodge without a pool, they would have been okay. Seeing reality, and knowing when to say no, or at least not now, makes all of the difference. This one gets me. I'm glad they both made it, albeit not wholly.

I like how he isn't ridiculously dramatic, as are so many narrators of harrowing stories.
It's Paul mcgann aka Dr who
@@isaacmaskey468I never knew that. He doesn't sound scouse at all in this.
What bothers me is that there are terrible people in this world who judge the mistakes of others.
Exactly!!
Yes, because every parent that puts their kids into dangerois situations are just the best parent ever. 🙄
@@kylaevans5928oh my god and can i add that one episode where this family got lost in the arizona desert, the father went to find help and instead of staying or going where the mother knew where help was, she decided to follow her husband a day later and ended up getting lost. that woman made a bunch of mistakes anyone should know not to make in a situation like that, and ended up saying her and her kids’ survival was mostly because of her love?? that episode is the only one that’s infuriating to me. eugh
This narrator deserves an award. He keeps you gripped. Unbelievable stories. Thank you for sharing.
100%
that's because the dog alien spared him, so he could narrate this awesome show.
I just wish he'd say the year.
I felt the same,He should of told his daughter no. As a parent myself I would of said no.
Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking.
I cant.

Little princess didn't want to stay in a hotel with no pool and what a disaster that would be!. So he risks both of them and you call him a good father? lol
stupid father, i would say!
if the father wouldn't have been so stupid to let an 11 year old tell him what to do and where to stay..
Ain’t nobody as good as this narrator.
I love the episodes in really cold temperatures. nothing breaks you like the cold. i absolutely hate it
For me, the worst ones are when they have no water in the blistering heat. I feel like I'm suffering along with them, and I have the constant urge to chug water. It's such a relief when they are finally found and given water.
i love both these and the heat ones, but i’ll agree with you on the cold ones. they’re so depressing and for what😭😭
Sometimes you gotta be the parent and think about what’s best for your kids and you. Safety is always first. You’re in extreme conditions you should have stayed at the first hotel. I don’t know why he stayed on as well he should have bailed off the snowmobile
Should've, could've, would've
Play silly games,win silly prizes.....
I was thinking the same thing! I did not understand why he stayed on after he pushed her off. I also don’t understand why he kept his hand on the throttle when he knew that his ski was stuck on that rail. Why not just stop?
@@cynthiafisher3392 That's exactly what I was wondering. Once he realized the ski was stuck, why keep going?
Of all of the ISBA episodes, this one is my favorite because not only they survived the ordeal, but one of them was also bestowed the Star of Courage, one of Canada's highest decorations. That decoration is historic because it is a medal embodied by Canada as a whole, and having it in your possession is a feat of honorific proportions.
I agree!❤
Does it come with a free Kraft Dinner?
Some very large mistakes were made. This all could have been prevented if Dad had turned around or stayed at the first hotel.
Agreed but if this didn't happen to them then it wouldn't be I shouldn't be alive it's supposed to be dramatic
Everybody has learned and taken away something from this story 🙏
I would like to give credit to Leia’s father.

3-Cellphone
4- Pulling himself up to the road
5- Make a fire
6-Go get clothes to keep warm.
7- Cuddle together for warmth.
8- Go for help
9- He stayed awake for her
10-Stayed calm and reassuring for his daughter.
11-Mental determination to survive
12-Gave her his only glove
13-Prayed for them.
14-Kept her calm and confident.
15-Tried to stand and walk.
16-Used a metal sign to chip the ice from her boots so she could walk to get help.
17- Gave her correct instructions “always turn right at crossroads “
18-saved her life.
19-Saved his own life.
20-Raised a brave, good, kind, loving, responsible, loveable, courageous daughter.

Nice breakdown, gracious response.
I am a woman who gets lost next-door to her house. Why always right? I need to understand the logic to remember it.
He was also a complete idiot for carrying on in that weather and the accident was totally avoidable. He could also be viewed as grossly irresponsible
You give him credit for being a father who would rather risk their lives than do what's safe and mature? GTFOH
It’s crazy that This actor played Charles Lightoller in Titanic.
Letting children make logistical decisions that should be undertaken by adults is what’s wrong with society today. Parents fall into guilt trips for working so much that they endulge their childrens every whim.
Yeah. That is what is wrong with society. Oh please 🙄
She paid a hefty price for having a weak ass parent....
agreed, He should of said no, who cares if she bitched and moaned. it's like some parents are to scared to tell their kid no.
She says, making a fire, FROM THE MAP, I'm like uhh 😮😂😂

@@Ifyoudontknownowuknowbruh you've obviously never been to the woods like ever. When there is that much snow and it all being blowed around everything is soaked. You're not getting a fire from just soaked wood and winds blowing. But there is one option they couldve done with ONLY wood. They couldve picked some twigs, dried them out close to their bodies in their coats. Then when they wanted to build a fire, they could pull those out to start one.
Sometimes it's ok to tell your child NO.

You left a warm hotel to weather out the cold
Man the actor that played the dad was unreal good for a little show. What an amazing story❤
His name is Jonny Phillips. He's a British actor you may know for playing Officer Lightoller in Titanic 😊
Good thing he allowed his young daughter to have her way, instead of doing what was smart and safe, but unpopular with a child... 😑
The narrator said "like any doting father, he couldn't say no", but the truth is that, like any weak father, he chose not to man up and control the situation.
I recognize that, in modern society, sticking around to be a father to your children has become a rare virtue, but that doesn't excuse his failure to lead.
Well said
Spot on.
cringeeee. oof. cringe
😂😂😂
This is what happens when you put your inexperienced kids first. The kid is supposed to follow your wisdom and judgment. Not the other way around.
@@Herbert-s7c This guy had no wisdom and that is the problem right there. He knows he needed a satphone but brings a cheap nokia flipphone. I've seen this before. They should have stayed at the first hotel and not taken the risk. I feel like this could have been prevented.
there was an 11 year old girl involved and it's actually a misconception that you have to wait 24 hours especially if she told them they went out on a snowmobile. that cop or 911 operator was either lying or being lazy.

These long, multistage snowmobile trips are a thing in canada. Kind of neat, really. They also have multiday cross country ski trails with reserved huts along the way... at least in Quebec.

Wow incredible young girl the human spirit to survive is amazing 🙏👌
The two of them were saved independently. The little girl isn’t the one who caused that family to stumble upon the dad. She could have just stayed with him and they would have been rescued together. In this situation the best chance of survival is to hunker down in place. The daughter risked her life unnecessarily and didn’t change the outcome. The dad put her in a dangerous situation and then made it worse over and over again with terrible decisions
That's not how I read it... the daughter was rescued then she sent help after her dad. Since this family was kitted out to rideand recover someone they volunteered to go get him.
Walking back to the main, used , trail saved both their lives.

What a amazing brave little girl❤❤❤❤. Hearts to all real men called dad
People put themselves in these dangerous situations without thinking what if something goes wrong? Put themselves in harm's way for a pool!
