I'm french and the french voice of buffy is very good but in VO what a mess full of autotune. But VO is the opposite for VF everyone is really really good but Buffy. VF everyone is really bad but Buffy XD And like you said Tony and Amber Slayed the episode !
Deniyell McMillian The two best singers in the Musical episode. I think Antony Head has been in musicals before I don't know what Ambers previous experience is.
I had such a crush on him when I was 16. All the girls in my grade were into Angel, but I was like no way Giles for me. I am a wife and mum now but I still fancy him. Anthony is handsome but it is his character that I have a crush on.
The voice is very attractive. I was jr high ish when this came out, so I was a Spike girl. As an older woman and wife and mother now, he is the most attractive man. Dependable, steady job and ready to stab a mayor to defend his children? Oh my.
I always loved Giles, but more like a father, I guess... I used to crush a lot on Angel in the beginning, but when Spike approached, I definitly became his trash 🙏🏼😂💙
Its no accident that Gile's character was in that position. The writers had Buffy's real father absent from the very beginning of the series and Giles (whether Buffy or Giles were willing to acknowledge it or not) was the closest thing to a father she had. And Giles just grew into that role more and more as time went on until Buffy's mom died and he was basically the only parental figure she had left. It was all a very well engineered arc from very talented writers.
@@JonathanRodd the watchers council fired Giles because they thought he was too attached to Buffy to be her watcher of course by this time he was reinstated at Buffy's request
When Tara and Rupert start singing together, you see the finality of two loving relationships made manifest, and it's utterly heartbreaking...not only is the singing sublime, but the emotions in their faces and movements tell such a story of pain and loss. If you don't shed a tear, here, then you really haven't invested yourselves in these characters.
If you're not at least on the verge of crying listening to them singing and watching the longing and regret in their eyes you are emotionally dead. I can say that because my meds had made me emotionally dead for 16 years when I saw this and I still felt tears trying to break through. This is powerful stuff. then again this was also the first episode of Buffy I'd ever even seen.
This is one of the most beutiful moments in telivision. You can really see how much Giles loves her and he knows he has to back down, great acting by Anthony, brings tears to my eyeys allways
I always thought she was worried that Willow would scoop out those parts of her that were inconvenient. Kind of like being made a Stepford Wife. Also her family tried oppressing and manipulating her (and apparently her mother), so she knows what a bad relationship looks like
That is definitely excellent and I love them singing together no matter what part of the song, but the part that really gives me happy chills is starting at 2:54 when they start singing their own parts in that gorgeous harmony!
Anthony Head has a beautiful voice - there’s something really mesmerising about it. Love this song and what it represents - it’s basically a father (Giles) singing to his surrogate daughter (Buffy) and his need to let her grow up despite wanting to protect her. I always loved their relationship.
I usually do okay emotions wise in this song until it hits the "I wish I could lay your arms down, and let you rest at last" part. When you really think about it, being The Slayer is such a miserable existence, that demands you sacrifice so much, and even if you make those sacrifices and save the world, there is no reward, no retirement, just more of the same. All Giles wants for Buffy is the rest she has more than earned, but he knows that she won't ever get it. Heartbreaking.
Especially combined with the next line. “Wish I could slay your demons, but now that time has past.” If Giles could fight her battles- both physically and metaphorically- you know he would in a heartbeat, because he knows the toll it takes on Buffy. But she’s the Slayer, not him, and he knows she’s leaning too heavily on him as it is. It’s breaking him, but he’s trying to do what’s best
And then, when you make the final sacrifice, and you get rest at last... your damn friends come along and rip you out of heaven. For pretty selfish reasons, i might add.
I also don't think I'm particularly emotional...I don't know if it has to do with age or what, but this song makes my throat go from O to o...sitting here like "aheem AHEEEEEM....AAAAAAAAHEEEEEEEEM"
Tara was bathed in sunlight in the first song but in the reprise she is bathed in moonlight because she now knows what willow has done to her poor Tara treated like shit all her life by her family by glory and even by willow
@@McBenjiii I disagree. The character was treated and valued very high. Tara was immensely important for several characters to develop. Her entire story arc just makes sense. From the set up the one of the most heartbreaking deaths in a series i ever saw she was written superb and casted well. Desexualized, stong willed, intelligent character. Norm breaker and highjacking hearts of all genders. One of the best roles in the entire series.
I love how Giles went from being the grumpy grandpa of the group, to actually being the father of the group... He wants so much for Buffy to be the best she can be, but he feels like he's holding her back... Like, a father, he feels he must leave her so she can spread her wings and have her own life... I love his character development so much, and Anthony Head has a nice singing voice
