  • In this video, I review the Eufy RoboVac X8 Robot Vacuum. You can buy this RoboVac for $599.99 directly from Eufy → shrsl.com/3hvwt and from Amazon US → amzn.to/3KprxW0 or for £449.99 from Amazon UK → amzn.to/3ENe74N.
    Eufy X8 Hybrid (with mop functionality):

    I love covering robot vacuums. They have been my most surprising gadget over the last decade for me. Like dishwashers, they help to free up your life/time by automatically (whilst unassisted) do a decent job at maintaining a clean floor space. If you have pets or a floor surface that seems to gather dust, hair and dirt very often, then a robot vacuum is a must-have gadget for your home.
    This is my second RoboVac from Eufy - a sister lifestyle brand of Anker. My G10 Hybrid review was a popular tech lifestyle video on my channel, so picking up the RoboVac X8 felt like a no-brainer, to see how far Eufy has come along, and boy have they come far!
    The X8 packs a lot of juicy features for its rather accessible price range. You can expect to pay almost double from certain brands with similar features, so the X8 really had my attention after reading its spec sheet.
    Eufy's presentation, from opening and unpacking the RoboVac, to downloading its commanding app, was really a pleasure to experience. The RoboVac was easy to put together and set up, whilst connecting to the app and your Wi-Fi was just as quick and easy to complete.
    Firing up the first clean the X8 mapped the first few rooms I allowed it around. Once comfortable I opened the full 40m2 floor space of my home without hesitation. From its quietness and its speed to its rapid and rather smart AI pathfinding, I was already thinking this was better than my over four-year-old staple robot vacuum.
    After a full clean of my home many of my rooms were correctly mapped as individual rooms, however, having an open planned living space, I had to make some corrections. Entering into the Edit Map feature I was easily able to cut rooms into two, whilst merging various other parts of rooms and hallways to create a number of zones that would make it easy to send the RoboVac to clean.
    The app makes it easy to see where the RoboVac has been, thanks to a clear white pathway it leaves behind. This makes it easy to see what it had missed, due to obstacles or the odd curious cat getting in its way.
    Toggling through its four PA power levels is easily accessible through the app, with easy updates, scheduling, cleaning history and many more features just a few taps and swipes away. Everything I wanted to see or do was covered in its phone app, yet I do wish its battery level was displayed as a percentage than a vague illuminated silhouette of an icon.
    The X8 had no issues navigating my home, making thick rugs and doormats a non-issue for the speed and agility of its spring-like wheels. Obstacle avoidance felt decent and it seemed to find its way around without too much confusion or failure occurring.
    What stopped me from completely loving it was that it was a little too high for some of my home's furniture. At 97.2mm high, beds and side tables stop its massive LiDAR sensor hood from getting underneath. Navigating between chair legs was also a 50/50 task, mostly avoiding under the table completely.
    For its price, or more so at its $100 cheaper occasional sale price, the RoboVac X8 comes in at a steal. So if you're on the lookout for a capable robot vacuum, be sure to put the X8 on your shortlist.

    Product Review Updates:
    - 29 April
    I still fully recommend this robot vac. The X8 remains my 'go to' robovac of choice around my home. My previous staple robovac (the Mijia 1) has been shelved, for now.
    Potential show stoppers:
    - Height might stop the vac from cleaning under all bits of furniture.
    - This version doesn't mop, but even if they paid me the $50 extra I wouldn't use that function.
    Small niggles:
    - The battery % label is not available in the app.
    - Rooms can't be named
    - Can't tell a voice assistant to clean a room, only a full clean.
    - Map can take a while to update before you see updated progress during the clean.
    - Can be quite aggressive on small obstacles that it can scale over.
    - It has struggled and failed to return to base station IF I do a go-to and clean task.
    - Under chair legs remains a 50/50 toss-up if it does it or not.
    Let me know if you have any questions about this RoboVac in the comments below. Thanks for watching :)

    Thanks for this very informative review! I’d been eying the X8 while looking up other reviews but I could never get a good read on people’s actual impressions because most other videos have “Paid Promotion” at the top. Your review ticked all my boxes (including how it deals with cat litter, which was the main question I had), so this is great, thanks for helping me make the call! I’ll use your link to purchase 👍

    Hi Anthony, have you tried the hybrid model? I was wondering how you would rate the mopping ability? I am on the fence as to which model to go for!

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад +1

      Personally I’m not a fan of mopping functions on these things. They don’t really do half as good of a job as you doing it yourself. Avoid any vacs that just drag a moist towel pad behind them. That doesn’t achieve anything really. More active mops are slightly better but still, the limited reach of the robot means you don’t get a thorough clean of the floors.
      So in short, just go for a robot that vacuums and avoid mopping hybrids. Save your money unless the mop agitates or has a decent cleaning function with separate water and waste containers.

    The unit (X8) died 3 days past the 12 month warranty date. The Eufy support team informed that there may be a potential defect with the mainboard of the device. It worked well while it was going but disappointing lifespan.

      Yes that’s a shame, to go just outside the warranty. 😔 thanks for sharing and watching.

    Very informative video. What did you find to be the best robot vacuum cleaner?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад +1

      It all depends on the house conditions and what you want out of your robot vacuum.
      Of all the ones I tested, I stuck with the Mijia One for some time. No others that came in replaced it, until this X8 from Eufy. But the extra height didn’t fit under most of my furniture so it didn’t clean as thoroughly.
      The smart mi A1 was also great, I liked its power and straight long brush and cleaning power, but it was far too big and bulky to located it’s station and for it get in and around places, so that also got used much less.
      Then the yeedi vac 2 pro came and it’s low profile, cleaning AI, and room management worked so well that I cast all the other vacs away and the yeedi has been my daily driver vac for a few months now.
      The only issue I have with it is it has no sensors in the main bin station and in the bin inside the vac. So you’re guessing when the main bin is full or if you don’t have that station when the mini bin inside is full. Other than that it’s done a surprising job generally. ruclips.net/video/9tfsyVKqvPU/видео.html
      I have just had another arrive for review, but it serves a much different demographic as it’s the smallest vac I’ve used.

    Does it slam into dark furniture like the current and former eufy infrared versions do??

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад

      As it has LiDAR it shouldn’t do that when compared to non LiDAR robovacs. But without dark furniture I can’t say I’ve seen it happen myself.

    Comment about how difficult is to empty the bin is bit strange considering the way you are holding it... Seems like holding it other way around and use both hands may work better. Anyways mine will be delivered in few days will see then.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  2 года назад

      Yes. One handed whilst holding a camera isn’t a good idea 😂
      If you open it deeper into the bin and have the opening facing downwards it’s ok then but still not as good as a draw like opening on some others I’ve used.

    Curry’s have these for £420. Do you know of anything better for the same price? Cheers

      It’s £349 from Amazon amzn.to/3ENe74N right now for the non hybrid version (same as the one in my review). Quite a bargain at that price considering Currys price

      @@SteveE293 that is a good deal on the hybrid. Good job and I hope you enjoy it.
