    Hi Rick...my Mummar made this for us when I was younger, and I make it often...there was nothing Mummar couldn't make with corned beef. Corned beef Shepards Pie with Pearl Bearley, corned beef rolls, corned beef pasties...surprised we never had corned beef trifle! Your recipe brought back happy memories...thank you.

    Love it! Cornbeef as a quiche. Easily attainable . That's one thing I love about most of your recipes. They contain easily accessible ingredients. And don't require a Culinary degree with all its jargon to describe and decipher. They are straight forward even for a home cook, like myself. You are the most thorough Chef on RUclips or any food channel I've ever watched.that gives the best tutorials. You go through each detail with explanations. You are a champ! Keep it coming Chef Rik.

    Glad to see you giving corned beef its place in your cooking. I feel like many people, at least in the U.S., turn their nose up at it. I have always loved it.

    • @BackyardChef
      @BackyardChef  5 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, thank you. Its not everyone's ideal ingredient. However having had it over the years it can be utilised into all sorts of things. Its getting pricey now though! The thing with the US they have great real corned beef so don't tend to have it out of the can. Corned beef in the UK has been a staple for decades and rightly so. Thank you. Best, Rik

    This is the best looking quiche I've laid my eyes on! Most quiches are not straight up protein, but rather eggy and blended with veggies. I can see now why you egg wash the crust bottom as well as prick it with the fork. Such a beautiful presentation and a flawless execution Rik!

    I was very unsure about making this as the combination was so unusual. I was pleasantly surprised at just how tasty it is! I added the Worcestershire sauce and would say that's a must as it really lifted the flavour. There was an abundance of pastry. I'd make less next time as I dislike waste. I'd definitely make again. Thank you for the unusual recipe.

    I’m going to try your trick of applying an egg wash to the crust when I next make an apple pie.

    • @barbarapatriciaharrison3853
      @barbarapatriciaharrison3853 5 месяцев назад

      I think the egg wash is used to stop any egg seeping through and sticking . So not really required for apple pie I don't think , but it's worth trying maybe 😊

    • @BackyardChef
      @BackyardChef  5 месяцев назад

      Yes indeed! It will stop the soggy bottom. Do you use a little cornflour/starch mixed with a little water as well to give a thickish apple sauce. Worth a go. Don't be heavy handed though keep it looking natural. Best, Rik

    Love it Rik. Want to make this for the Thai family. Will they say "aloy" or "mai aloy"? If it's the latter, all the more for Eric! Either way, I'm coming out ahead! Thanks as always.

    I am returning to good old British food , meat and two veg. Simple puddings ect less chance of wrecking your gut. Sick of a thousand and one different ingredients in a recipe.
    We then have no idea what has upset our tummies. Jam tarts , steam suet meat puds ect.
    Thank you.

    Sounds great. I was contracted once to a marketing company and one of their products was Blicks spicy chutney. After a while we couldn't get that, but Baxters made one very similar. Now they have discontinued that, but I used to love it together with corned beef and cheddar cheese in a salad. I just wonder if adding a chutney to this quiche would go well or does it sound daft?

    I had an idea for the crust edge removal, What if you pressed a second biscuit pan over the tart pan? Then there'd be one drop of the edge instead of bunch of crumbs.

    Only one difference between your quiche and mine Rik; instead of onion rings I use thin slices of tomatoes either fresh or fully dehydrated.
    Try it mate and let me know. :)
