Another underated ABBA song,a song you hardly or ever see any reactions on in youtube either,we can count though on you Dereck...you bring the hidden gems out and you do good reactions as well...
Hit after hit after hit....and with really good melodies and production. Most of their songs had not one, but several hooks. You still gotta check out "Move On", "Bang-A Boomerang", "My Mama Said", "Cassandra", "I've Been Waiting For You", "Elaine" "That's Me"
Their outfits... very Special. Last year I visited Stockholm and went to the ABBA museum. It’s sooo funny and interesting. And you can see many costumes of them.
Dereck - You are great at breaking down these songs and pointing out specific things that catch your eye. I loved ABBA 50 years ago, and I love them now. Frida was my special favorite because she was the most energetic and had the best stage presence. Thank you for your work.
The strings arrangement in this song sends me into heaven. There was a Swedish version which has completely different lyrics to the English version. It's about not falling for sweet words from men who just want their wicked way with you.
The clothes they have are their official costumes they used when the official «Ring Ring» video débuted, the previous year (1973). This is one of the most «classic» early-ABBA tunes. Another song, that is ignored, from around this period, is «Gonna Sing You My Lovesong», which has great lead vocals from Anni-Frid, and, of course the «signature» Agnetha/Frida heavenly harmonies. In my opinion, this is one of ABBA's greatest songs from the early days,,,, it is an undiscovered «gem». 💎🎼🎶🎵
When corona is over you can come to Stockholm Sweden and crash on my sofa and we´ll go to the Abba museum and you will see those costumes. You won´t believe their waist size. Like what? I enjoy so much rediscovering Abba and so many other bands and songs on your channel. Thank you for that.
One of the earlyest ABBA-Songs, funny and nice. Another one could be "Tropical Loveland". I loved it sooo much when I was little! Well, actually I still do! :)
Apparently stage costumes were tax deductible in Sweden and they used a designer and told him the more outrageous the better apparently! It was the era of glam rock and multiple versions were made of each outfit in slightly different tones to ensure they looked the same on various counties tv systems.
@@discogareth I understand (and apply) tax rebates on education , health insurance etc , .but work clothes sounds like overkill to me. At least from a South American perspective.
I was 8 years old in 1974 when this song was all over the place. They went glam beside Sweet, Bowie and so on. Glamrock was the hottest thing In 74. 🕺🥂🌟❤️
Early ABBA, so adorable 🥰 and one of my favourite songs. Dereck please react to the video of ‘So Long’ on the Made In Sweden For Export compilation, it will blow you away!
Their looks here: 1974-1975 was the era of glam rock in Europe, and in those days ABBA were very inspired by glam clothes-wise. As they became more musically ambitious, more popular, and needed less attention, their looks also became less flamboyant. But these early looks stuck to them, and they were often used to ridicule them. But - hey - they looked great (and a bit crazy).
Great ABBA reaction as always! It’s been a while since you reacted to them. Now that 2020 is coming to an end, make sure to check out their amazing ‘Happy New Year’ (it has an official video)
I love your reactions to Abba! So cute! They also wear these costumes in the Ring Ring video. I think they wanted to get attention so they wore these crazy outfits.
There is only one song when Benny takes the lead vocal: "Suzy-Hang-Around". And I just love it 😁 It's amazing ❤️ I really recommend it to you 🥰 But I also can tell you that Benny nearly always sing with Bjorn. But they're usually backing vocals. Benny once told that he just hate being in spotlight. He likes to pamper songs with background sounds. Both with his voice and keyboard.
This was a big hit over here in Germany, a Number 2 on the charts and i think it's a German TV appearance, which was always lipsynch in the 70's. I kinda remember, but not too clearly. This was the follow up single to Waterloo in some countries. And considered to be very different from Waterloo it was immediately giving them superstardom in Germany. Honey Honey is very well arranged going from slight chessiness to relaxed sophisticated orchestration and back... but extremely catchy. They tuned down their fancy dresses by 1975 to relatively normal from end of 1976 on, though their tour clothings for their first European tour by the end of 74 was extremely sexy and glam. This song was released as a cover in other territories, i think UK, but forgot... oh it was Sweet Dreams and a UK #10...
There are over 100 ABBA songs and every one is different, taking many influences to form their musical journey. 'Honey Honey' was the follow up to 'Waterloo' in most countries but not in the UK. It went to Number 2 in Germany (where this show was recorded) and Number 4 in both Austria and Switzerland. Amazingly as the Eurovision Song Contest was barely known in the US and as ABBA only visited briefly on the back of Waterloo going to 10 in the autumn, it managed to get to Number 27. The girls later said the tried to sound a little sexy on this song but weren't sure the succeeded. Dereck, you have only just dipped your toes in the ABBA story! Have fun investigating the work of these four extremely talenetd people.
Their second U.S. Top 40 hit, following "Waterloo". I think they were going for that spacey, David Bowie-esque look. Lot of groups had these sort of looks in the early 70's.
There’s also the official video for ‘I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do’ and you could add ‘Tiger’, ‘My Love, My Life’ and maybe ‘Hasta Mañana’ or ‘Love Isn’t Easy’ which have official videos too, though they’re not on their official channel
@@JF-sh2sm Yeah, I forgot i Do I Do.......and as you wrote plenty of unofficial clips. The clothes here are the one's for Ring Ring which he hasn't done. I'd like him to do the Abba Movie I'm a Marionette & Carousel.
So young and exuberant. No idea at this time just of how big they'd become, and no idea of the heartaches that lay ahead either. With time on their sides, they would never grow old. But within five years it began to unravel for them - not the songs, but their private lives. Abba were sexy without aiming to be sexy. They didn't need to do erotic dance moves or dress like schoolgirls to titillate audiences. Their sexiness came not from 'midriff' but from their naturalness.
Dereck just keeps getting better and better, so entertaining, fun and uplifting. Please, please, please review "I've Been Waiting For You" Live from The Movie.
