@@OlManRonin put some 4" over forks on yer sportster! Experts tested them and said ALL sportsters (evos & iron heads) handle better with the 4" over on the front end! Harley makes them way to tight and they tend to over steer and can be dangerous!

Girl rider here, new to your channel. I'm really loving this and your humour. Got my 1st harley in 88. A 1200 signal red sportster. Loved it so much. It was stollen 1 year to the day. 34 years latter: Just got my 2nd sportster; 883 custom 100th anniversary. And I'm loving this just as much. Very different technology, still getting used to the controls diect to belt drive. But I am so much more relaxed, less anxious and stressed. Loving it back on the road. Its so good around town and the down coastal roads in UK. She's a lovely mover. I really get your take on it all. Nice vid.

Some people just get spoiled with a sportster. Bought first one off the showroom in 82 and put 100k on it. All my riding buds would always want to borrow it. Dependable and handled like a dream. Had a few sporties in between and some big twins and now have a 72 model. I now ride purely for pleasure/stress relief and it's perfect for me. Handles great, plenty of power and options out the wazoo. Like your channel/content and your country roads brother-be safe.

In general, if someone asks me to recommend a bike for beginners, I usually point them to Japanese bikes. A Sportster wouldn't even make it into my honorable mentions! Come on, let's be honest, in some ways, a Harley is basically just a hunk of metal on wheels!
Ah, but don't get me wrong! I've got a soft spot for that big ol' hunk of metal known as a Harley. I just wouldn't recommend it for beginners, especially not those sledgehammer 1275 Harleys. We gotta give the kiddos a fighting chance at becoming gentlemen bikers, not rodeo bulls!

I absolutely LOVE my 2013 XL1200CP. I have upgraded a few things to make it MY bike. Mustang saddle solo seat, Progressive suspension front & rear, Screamin' Eagle 1 to open the air intake. I also eliminated the "Grenade" from the clutch (spring plate) and put in an extra-plate clutch. I bought the Harley computer interface software kit to tune the fuel (Super Tuner). It has the 5-spoke mag wheels and it looks ok. It came with 16 inch FAT tires front and rear. I like how it handles. I did put white wall tires on it and they complement the paint scheme (Big Blue Pearl). It now has almost 23,000 miles on it. I enjoy doing 100 mile or so toots on it. Plenty big enuff for me! I bought it new in 2013 and had the dealer install a windshield & passing lamps. I also aadded the "Pony Express" saddle bags which are quite roomy. Also added the mini-footboards and a luggage rack. It came with forward controls so, it is comfy ride. NOT a "Girl's Bike"

    Twin disc front.
    Solid rear.
    Forward controls.
    V&H straight shots, fueling 525.
SS buckhorns. like a sportster on 'roids.
Had an 883 4 speed chain drive solid engine mount but the tank range wasn't up to much.
TC88 has more vibes than the evo FXDL I had before.

Hi I’m 69 ride a shovelhead bobber and have just got myself a 2005 xl1200r to rip around on. I’ve had a new softail custom evo, a new 2003 anniversary softail nightrain. And a new x1 Buell. But always gone back to shovelhead.i started on a 1976 sportster, and have had sportsters all my life. I actually went out to buy a twincam wide glide as the evo dynas are out off my price range now in the uk. But saw this sportster and remembered all the good times I’ve had over the years on sportsters.sportsters are great on uk roads.the bike only has 13,000 miles on it I had a test ride and it felt like new. When I bought it and went out for longer and the tyres warmed up it was sqirming about on the back end like it had a flat tyre.i checked the age off the tyre and they were both from 2011. So two new tyres on order Avon cobra chrome. The tyres actually looked like new.👍🇬🇧

Great bike. I have an 06. I disagree with some who says this is a good first bike. If you are a smaller inexperienced rider, man or woman! - with zero riding experience, my opinion is the 1200 has too much torque for a new rider, especially a nervous first time rider.. Maybe an 883 or a smaller metric bike. Great video, thanks!

I know how ya feel. After years of being off of two wheels, due to my wife being terrified of them, I got my redo, and my first HD last year. A 2007 HD XL1200N Nightster, and I loved it. People would say the usual, "...but that's a girls bike." well, that's fine, I will rock that pink and purple sun dress with matching shoes, as long as I can ride it. 😂 Then a couple months ago, I ended up trading it in for a 2018 Softail Sport Glide.... And the shocker is, my wife purchased a matching bike and is learning to ride..... Restarting in our older years as well... But I do miss that Nightster.

I have a 1999 Harley 883 Sportster xlh. I have had my motorcycle almost 25 years and a half close to 400,000 miles on it on original engine. Ironically I bought it so I could have a plethora of choices for service and repair but it has been phenomenally more reliable and dependable than I ever thought possible. At outlasted by hitek Japanese motorcycle 🏍️ by fifteen years and 250,000 MI. Ironically now a lot of Harley shops don't want to touch it because it is over 10 years old. They would probably have a stroke if I came in on one of my eighty-year-old British motorcycles. Or maybe I should bring them my jawa perak 250. You would think they would have no problem working on an evolution Sportster no matter how old it is.

I just watched your channel for the first time and you are obviously passionate about motorcycles and Harley Davidson's in particular. I love what you have done to your sportster and If there is one thing that if it was my bike that I wouldn't change is how your sportster sounds. You said that you are going to do something to the exhaust and that of course is your prerogative but I sure hope for your sake that you are happy with whatever it is that you plan on doing to that the exhaust after the changes have been made. I am wondering if the change you plan on making is mainly for cosmetic reasons because IMHO the sound that you have with those Vance and Hines is about as sweet as it gets. As you were cruising down the road explaining what kind of changes you have made and plan on making to your bike not for a moment did I quit thinking about how beautiful your ride sounded. I just now remembered that you said the change to the exhaust was for performance reasons which is certainly a very valid reason for wanting to change it. After all if your bike looks and sounds wonderful but has performance flaws I would want to make changes too. I look forward to seeing more of your channel as you seem to be pretty much on the same page as I am in regards to what a Harley Sportster should be. I'm 66 years of age and I have a feeling that we might have similar tastes in motorcycles and the Harley Sportster in particular. Ideally I would like to have a cruiser like the Sportster and an adventure bike for when I want to get away from the city and do some fishing in some of the more remote areas close to where I live. I see that the video I watched is dated three years ago so I hope that your channel has grown and I can watch more of what you have to offer. Thanks.

@@OlManRonin I do vinyl graphics and t-shirts on the side, I like your logo, I will have to make you a nice decal representing lol! Oh on that note, I found this really cool vinyl that is black reflective! I made some bar & shield decals for my oil tank, battery box and helmets....you would not believe how great this stuff works when hit by headlights! It is virtually invisible being black on black until hit by lights at night! I have been adding leds' , new turn signals and a set of angel eye/spot lights this week while on vacation. Have to be seen when sharing the road with so many distracted drivers yanno!?

Hi, this is my first time seeing you n your video! Great video n info. I also have a 2005 HD Sportster 1200c. I’m having some problems with it. While riding, it just cuts off. I mean everything turns off n then turns back on. Sometimes it stalls at a red light n other times all the lights didn’t work, not one light. But the main thing is that it cuts off on me randomly n if I’m lucky it’ll turn back on all by itself. Would this be a stator/regulator problem, a heat temp sensor problem, a crankshaft sensor problem? Would you know? Have you have this problem with this bike? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thank you n ride safe! God bless!

@@tonydemelo5873 yes the preload is set for one average sized person. when you carry a load or are over 200 pounds you should adjust the preload using a c wrench. try one or two clicks up and see if that helps. given the low mileage, I'm guessing its still at factory settings. If that doesn't help, you might need to upgrade to legend suspension or some other premium suspension

I do not understand it when men say a sportster is a girls bike at 883-1200cc and then they get on the smallest dirt bike they can find like a 100cc because they think a 400cc - 650cc dirt bike is a monster and they are scared as hell to ride them.

@@OlManRonin I suspect that he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about Harley's. That is a beautiful bike you have and it combines great looks with performance which is what I feel most people want in a motorcycle. You would leave him behind when the road gets a bit twisty and that sounds like a good thing for you. The Fat Boy is okay when you are out on a long straightaway but as soon as you need something more nimble in the twisties he wouldn't stand a chance of staying with you on your Sportster. Bye bye Fat Boy!
