I have an 04 1200C, had just over 96000 miles on it when a valve cracked, still made it home. For a long time, I rode it with out any mods, stock. Then did a Mustang seat, LED head light, and the Memphis Shades fairing. It is currently in the shop having the big bore kit w/cams and full Van and Hines exhaust put on it. Can't wait to get it back .
A friend of mine who is know longer with us Steve had bought a 1998 1200 sporty !!! New Canary yellow and red !!!! He rode it to work for 10 years and rode it on weekends!! Toy RUNS,poker runs, with Vietnam Veterans which he was!!!! In 2010 the sporty had 88 thousand.miles on it!!!! The motor and trans were still good !! His daughter took off on it and took the bike to her house without.permisson and hit the garage wall and damaged the front forks and some other damage!!! They fixed the front end and Steve did some more work to the bike but his health was bad and when his wife died his grandson inherited the sporty, his 2010 street bob!!! R,I,P, STEVE JONES N, TEXAS!!!!
1 bought my 1200 custom new in 98 , I now have 106,000 miles on her . Engine has not been rebuilt ,and she still runs great . Only problems have been electric so far .
Yeah the wiring tends to break down after 10 years I've noticed. Not all, but a few. Thanks for watching!!! Cheers!
Wow that's impressive I have 9000 on mine I'll sleep better knowing it will run along time
Another great feature of the 1200C is the 4.4 gallon tank. I can run with the baggers in my club and not have to stop for gas like the peanut tanks
truth
4.5
@oddman7177 the 883c has the same size tank
T.c bros has some amazing aftermarket stuff
I’ve got flat side fat bob tanks on mine. Definitely don’t have to stop often
I bought my 2009 XL1200C new, still going strong. It's Mirage Orange Pearl on Vivid Black. It has a ton of chrome add-ons and Vance and Hines 3" Twin Slash slip-ons and sounds great. Also changed all the lights to LEDs. The bike draws looks and compliments everywhere it goes. It's a great light-weight cruiser for those country roads and buzzing about town. It's super maneuverable and loads of fun. It's an amazing bike with lots of factory special features such as progressive rear shocks, 4.5G fuel tank, and forward foot controls. Sometimes I wish it had a 6'th gear but that's my only peeve. I have no desire to "upgrade" to a larger heavier bike.
Great review. I agree totally with you. I’ve got a 2007 model (the first with EFI) and have progressively improved it with practical updates - Sundowner seat, progressive suspension, stage one kit, detachable bags and windscreen, engine bars, highway pegs, mini floor boards, etc - making it exactly what I want/need for the different stages of riding I’ve gone through over the past 100,000kms. It just gets better and better.
I've got an 08. Same deal. Great bike
I have an'07? and I feel like she is sexy AF, and by osmosis, I feel sexy AF on her.
I've got an 04 XL Custom
Same thing here as well,
Loving every single ride! ❤
The first Harley I ever rode was an old 60 something Sportster, rigid frame, jockey shift, springer front end, that ride started a lifelong love of Sportsters. I have a 2010 883 Iron, a 2016 1200 "72", and a 1980 Ironhead. I also have an Ultra CLassic, it spends most of the time in the garage. The 72 is my favorite. I can't see me not having a Sportster for my daily riding.
Love my 2001 Sportster 1200S. Carburetor, twin plugs, adjustable suspension, tubeless tires, dual front discs, rev counter and not much chrome. She's definitely a keeper!
I just bought a 2007 it's very nice riding and smooth bike plenty of power and the chrome pops
I have one and been totally thrilled with it. I'm about 5' 11' 165 lbs, fits me great. Its a cool bike, great look to it, doesn't feel small at all to me. Actually, I feel like a darn king on the thing, don't care what anybody else thinks about it. It goes good off the line, rides great on the highway, plenty of speed to go where I want.
Several years ago I had a Black 2009 1200 Custom. I added a windshield, V & H Short shots, a heavy breather, Sundowner seat and saddle bags I loved it, then my wife started riding with me so I traded it in on a HD Ultra limited and now we fit much better but I wish I had kept it. She recently decided to start riding her own bike now so we just got her a 2016 1200 Custom and she loves it "I do too" I really missed the Sportsters. Not sure if I like the fat front tire as well to look at but it does seem better on gravel to me. thanks for the video
I just bought a 2002 sporty 1200c from my local H-D dealer for next to nothing. Always wanted a sportster and I was not disappointed. Way better than any bike I’ve owned including my 2000 softail standard.
just boght a 98 1200c...11.497 miles, been sitting 3 years, owned by an older gentleman that has passed. last service 2 was 11496. has a screamin eagle exhaust other wise i think it's stock. i hope you got a great deal on your bike with all the work that was needed. Mine needs a front tire (low tread) battery (wow, when did they get so expensive!) and a carb/tank cleaning. Haven't ridden in abot 20 years, this is my first harley. looking forward to the fall riding season!
Just bought a nice 2014 1200 custom, with 4000 original miles!
It’s my first Harley and I’m thankful to know I bought the best !!
I just bought one that the previous owner dropped. I'm looking forward to getting it customised the way I want.
Agree with your opinion about the 1200c. I've lived motorcycling since childhood, my dad had several electra glides (kick started) and an Indian also. All my bikes have been Japanese. A year ago bought my first Harley, a 2005 1200c, somewhat neglected in a garage with very low mileage. It's been a long journey more than double the miles riding challenging curvy mountain roads, also an ongoing modification journey. Suspension fr/rr, S&S air cleaner and jets, V&H straightshots (full system, not slipons), Mustang seat, LED all around. And some embellishments. Man, at 70 I'm enjoying every mile of this journey. Keep those videos rolling, inspiring and assuring. Looking Into KC International for that same front wheel you have, but that embellishment will have to wait $$$ lol.
The 21” front makes the XL1200C. That platform needs that look imo.
1200 R model comes with performance cams, red lines at 6.5 rather than 5.5 as the custom. Plus dual disc brakes on front. Love the sportster. 20 states, 100,000 miles. Bullet proof
Just bought a 2007 after 20yrs of no bike in the shed preezy to me for the big 60 very impressed never know might even do a couple of vids through the summer on how it performs around Wale's
Bought a '17 1200 C a month ago. There seems to be a lot of hate for guys that ride Sportsters, but my wife and I LOVE ours - scratches and all. I am glad to find a kindred spirit ... Insta-subscribed.
How tall are you?I'm 1,85cm or 6.07ft and i think to buy one. i'm in between the XL sportster C 1200 2017 or a dyna Super Glide 2013
I ride the east bay on my 06
Costom that has been completely rebuilt and up graded to unleash about a hundred horse,
Lots of usefull power and very nimble.
Sporting the baby ape's and the Harley mistic green and black paint job, and with as much chrome as I can stick on her, "she's flash'.
I got a 2014 and man they had some decent upgrades that year
I bought the ‘14. 385 km on it, last year. Corbin seat . V&H slips and new filter coming.
So glad you love the sportster as I do.
I own a 2007 1200 C- It is a great bike
my 08 Low is magic my first one was a 63 883 and a 68 and a 72 this 08 is a dream and i love that they maintained a retro feel and the performance and handling is fantastic best bike
I bought a 2004 883 new. In fact I had to order it and wait three months for it. Super blank canvas that I’ve added some great components to such as the 4.5 gal fuel tank, N4 cams, a Hammer 1275 kit with 1200 Efi heads, E1 clutch, progressive fork springs and Ohlins shocks and more.
No problem on the highway, no issue doing 400 mile days, just love this bike so much and I prefer the carbureted model. Haven’t seen another bike yet that works better for me and now this one is so custom tailored to me it’s absolutely perfect.
Hope you’re still enjoying yours! - Xena from the XL Forum ✌️
XLC is my Favorite. I've got a 04 883C, was my 1st HD, I've put 50,000miles on it so far. 1275 kit is in the future for it, but 883 has been OK. I've got other bikes that I love, but the XLC is one of the best out there. My only Complaints are the riser setup, bottom mounted headlamp, and the Solid Cast wheel in the rear. I'm going to add the eyebrow, 14in T-bars, and a 18in Spoked Wheel when I get a chance, but I own a few bikes, and right now my M8 Softail has been receiving the most $$$ for upgrades.
Dont spend 5k-7k to upgrade your bike. Just use that money to buy a 1200 and then sell your older model for mods imho.
I got a 2006 custom an I LOVE iT nice motor cycle Vance H. Shorty ex. Pipes. S Eagle intake system runs great
I think I could watch this video over and over. The autumn colors, rolling hills, the perfect blue sky with the white fluffy clouds, and the incredibly good 4k video quality really made it very enjoyable.
Thank you
Thats awsome just bought a 2007 sporter custom love it
That was refreshing! You are such a real and down to earth person! Great video!
Thank you so much!
I’ve always been a metric guy but the soft tail standard will probably be my first American bike
I have a 2016 1400 Moto Guzzi and was thinking of downsizing to a 1200 Custom. While at the motorcycle shop there were 2 sporters along side of each other which i sat on. The Harley 48 and then the cusom. Wow! What a difference. The 48 was the most uncomfortable bike i have ever sat on. No way. The Custom was much more comfortable. I couldn't believe the difference. The Custom still has the big fat 16" front tire with a bigger tank and looks great. Personally, If i ever get a Harley, it would have to be one with the EVO engines as they seem to me to be the most reliable ones.
Bought my 883 end of aug ( first harley for me ). Honestly everything you said is 100% true , they are a highly customisable bike that's only limited by your wallet .
Thanks for a straight up no BS video
Yea, Sportsters don't get enough credit. Trash talked to death.
Observation.... You're the first moto guy I've watched that stops at stop signs. Everyone slides right through. Are they afraid of dumping the clutch? New sub... Great vid.
Awesome video man just bought my 2005 custom yesterday i have owed other bikes in my years of riding this is the very first harley and i love it 👍👍
Awesomeness Bill and congratulations
How’s it going Bill? Does it have half decent acceleration?
I just got a 04/1200C last week. I am going to keep it simple with a few upgrades, like the seat. I really enjoyed your Vid, So keep it flowing, Ronin. Splotchymoto out..........
If you do performance mods....... S&S carb is a must
I found a 2005 custom 1200 xl totally O.E. I love it the way it is. Has the windshield and back rest luggage . rack that came with it. It does everything I need. your right, Great bike, and I have had many over the years. Just something about it. It is a keeper.
I always felt like the rubber mount sportsters felt "watered down" compared to the 03 and earlier solid mounts.
Its all about the rumble isn't it? I really liked Shovels and Ironheads myself. But tbh, I think our days of rumble and thump are about over. Why I ONLY buy used Harleys.
Harder to service also.
I like my rigid Mount 99 Sportster I have almost 400,000 miles on the bike and it's not a Speedster so you just slow down and smell the oranges down in here in Florida
Loved the video. Great scenic ride. I have a 2013 1200C and really enjoy it.
Got the same bike!
@@robertcarson5184 Good choice. Thanks for sharing.
I’m an Asian guy I though I can only ride Japanese bike cause it fit small guy. I rode own hyabusa and Suzuki boulevard also gsxr 600.
But man oh man I just got my self an 08 1200 custom I love it, really comfortable ride.
Congratulations. Mine is an 09 and I love it. There are soooo many aftermarket stuff to truly make it yours. Email me you mailing address and I'll send you a sticker! Welcome to the Sportster family brother!
@@OlManRonin thank you brother!
andydaiho@gmail.com
Hayabusa is a BIG bike, what are you talking about?
Im 67 and needing to buy a smaller bike than my roadglide,,,have looked at several 1200s and rode them..they of course dont ride as smooth as my bigger harley but is dam sure easier to handle for a 67 year old man..do many men my age go the same route,,i refuse to buy a trike for now,,,lady locally has her dads 2011 1200 for 3500 cash,,he passed away last year and was only owner ,,he kept it indoors and its in showroom condition
I always wanted a Rupp in the late 60s early 70s. Ended getting a 4hp MTD. My mother bought it for me as the salesman convinced my mother the MTD was a better bike. He was FOS. He pushed the MTD over Rupp that he also had on the showroom floor because he got a bigger commission. The MTD nowhere the quality of the Rupp and they were the same price but I was just happy to be getting a mini bike so I kept my mouth shut after my opposition was denied. I also now have a 2004 1200c Sportster that I bought in spring 2005. Set mine up as a semi old skool bobber styling with buckhorn bars, changed my front rim to 3.5in so now I run a wider 21" front tire.
May I suggest you do a detailed walk around video of that beautiful xl1200c.
I like the name of your channel. “Ronin” would probably fit myself as well. I actually go out of my way to NOT ride with others.
I have a 2006 1200 Low fully chrome with 18 inch ape hangers with white wall tires on it. I get compliments all the time on the bike. I have a street glide stock and no one talks about it. I bust out the sportster and people wave to me or talk to me at the gas station
I am working on a 2006 Sporty, started with an '04 883 engine with a 1200 kit, and a Barnett Scorpion clutch already installed (I bought the engine for $740 US delivered to Babb Montana from New Hampshire). Then I found a 2006 1200C frame in New York for $250 delivered, since then I'm probably into it for around $3000. Just needs a bit more work and I'll be finished??? (Typical I just keep modifying bits and pieces)
I totally agree that the 1200 Custom is the best Sportster. BUT I will also say that the 'best of the best' are the 2004 to 2006 models. These 3 years were the first rubber mounted engines with the 'W' Cam and the SB heads AND more important, they still had the carburetor !!!! I have a 2005 and took a 400 mile ride at the weekend and she didn't miss a beat. I get the 'blank canvas' you mention, but unfortunately I live in Spain EU and motorcycles have to be inspected every 2 years here to get your 'tag', it's called an 'itv'. In order to pass this 'itv' inspection your motorcycle must not be modified in any way. In other words it must be 'exactly as it left the factory'. You can't even change the pipes, mirrors or handlebars. If you do change anything you have to put it back to 'stock' for its 2 yearly inspection and any aftermarket parts must be removed. So, obviously you can't modify fenders, or frame. It's a bummer. Thanks for your video.
I never mentioned a specific year on the 1200 C, just the fact that it is a complete blank canvas. I agree on the carb and w cam completely! Thanks for watching and subscribing! Cheers!
Got my first one im 49 lol realy nice 09 sportster 1200c realy like it has screaming eagle kit has mustang seat has tach wind shield fuel gauge iv just put kuryakyn pegs and grips on it realy nice shape
My friend just sold my his '06 1200 Low for half price. Mint, 9500 miles, Screaming Eagle stage One, Harley upgraded seat, Harley quick release wind shield, Harley quick release sissy bar with luggage rack and a Harley soft trunk. $3500. The wife says the seat is more comfortable than my '01 Fat Boy but my Triumph America (Road King clone) is more comfortable for me.
Great review buddy, just bought my 2009 custom a month ago, absolutely love it, only problem I have, I can't ride it lol, got my bike test next Wednesday, fingers crossed guys,
I got a 1200 c 2009 and I love it I cruise on my Electra glide but my sporty is a blast to ride
Totally agree 100%
Some good points brother. I had and 883 and I almost put a 1200 conversion kit on
it but I sold it👍👊
5gank uou for commenting. I love Sporties for shore.
I have a 2013 1200 C...Love it.
Great job sir I own one got one problem clutch hanging up
my first harley was a 2006 1200 sportster , it had 125 miles on it, when i traded it in for a 2007 softail custom it had over 20,000 miles on it.
had a lot of guys make fun of me riding a girls bike, but when i said title for title, stop light to stop light, lets see who wins. nobody took me up on it.
while i liked the look of the custom, i didnt like the ride, so i sold it.
in 2020 i bought a 2012 fatboy 103b, this is the best of my 3 harleys. in my opinion
Nice video! I'm thinking of buying Sportster or maybe Dyna in near future. Roads You drive seems quite a same we have here in Finland. Safe rides!
My 1200 Roadster is a stander with center controls its a 2005 best, with over a 100000 miles over the years the roadster is a stander.
Excellent video Bro. I have a Himalayan and the 1200 C too 👍
Awesomeness Keith thank you so much for watching and hopefully subscribing Cheers
Cool video.. I picked up a 2009 XL1200L and did a FP3 tune with DK Customs stage 1 aircleaner ( EBS ) and am switching to V&H Straightshots. It has the Cycle Shack muffs and they seem a wee bit quiet. I like the risers and gauge setup on my Sporty, because its more retro.. I had a 2017, 1200C and the center of balance seems much lower on the 2009 Low.. At the end of the day, They Are Harleys !! I sub'd !
Thank you ever so much
Good bike ride. Interesting info.
Love the year 2003 Custom 1200 C Anniversary Model, of which I own
883 to 1200 conversion actually has better take off than a OG 1200. The gears on the 883 offer better acceleration. I have an old evo sporty they are absolutely bulletproof. Good vid though. The sportster definitely doesn’t get its due credit.
2013 Sportster 1200 custom xl with cobra pipes. Still haven't found a bike that can fully convince me to trade this in
Would love to ride out there no traffic.
Anyone i know that is into harley always says to steerclear of sportster. They are all about the road kings, cvo and dyna. I only just got a metric cruiser this year as i always ride sports and adventures. Japanese and European. I fancy trying a harley but they are expensive in Ireland and not cheap for parts. The climate isn't kind to them either so second hand can be rough examples. Would you recommend a sportster 1200 for a first harley?
I have a 2011 xl1200c and love it
I'm on my 7th not counting the 2 buels. It's a basket case I'm rebuilding for the road.
XL1200L last year with carb. The best Sportster is the one you have.
I love mine. My mechanic can’t figure out how to get the horn to work
Transforming my 1200c to a bobber. Couple more months and I'll post the build. Budget
I definitely agree.Great video,good taste
Great video, Thanks
I have a 2010 nightster and a 1200 custom and the custom is a better bike for cruising one is all black and the custom has all chrome I love both I ride them all I collect and have 5 different Harley's mmm I love em
What happened to this channel? Have seen nothing new in 11 months. Hope all is well . I have always liked the 883 Sportster. Ours has never failed to put a smile on my face. Has always been reliable . Never have needed more power.
RIP Buddy
I like the Scrambler idea, would you change anything on the suspension?
For Scrambler? YES both ends they desperately need more travel for off road
Thanks for your video
I own super low ( Japan spec )
I have an 08 1200c for my first bike
I chose the 2006 1200R over the C simply because it’s better for a spirited ride. I was never a fan of the custom, they’re a dime a dozen sitting around for sale which tells me the interest drops for them too. The Roadster is much harder to find, especially in clean shape since they’re considered a hot rod and they’re rode harder. Just my opinion.
Wich year of production you think guys is the best ?
Does the Sportster 1200 Custom ever have cam chain tensioner issues?
Question, does yours blow out oil into the carburetor and make the right side of bike oily?
Love it. BTW, What kind of handlebar setup is that? Looks great. Like it much better than my buckhorns
Man I had a sportster Xl 1200 CA too, it’s a very good bike.
I Would like to ask you, What kind of exhaust did you have? The sound is great!!
thank you! The exhaust is a Vance & Hines Short Shots!
Just ordered those handlebars, do you have a link for those chrome handlebar grips. They look awesome. Also did you use the regular lines with handlebars (break/clutch) or did you have to install new ones. Sorry for the double question. Your Sporster is 🔥🔥👍
have a 2012, 1200 blacked out w/stright bar..less than 200 miles!...for sale..have another bike..this is just sitting in garage..let me know
And best front wheel tyres size??
What kind of handle bars are those

no they are Thrashin Supply Low Bars

I have a 2005 custom 883 the bloke I bought it from told me that it was worked 1200, now it keeps up with my mates 2010 custom but how can I tell if it is for sure??
Y'ouch great question, unless you have paperwork, or it was a Hammer or S&S kit, you can't unless you pull it apart. The stock jugs are identical except for the 1200 being bored out. Also, not that an 883 with stage two kit will perform just under what a 1200 stock will. But 883 bored out to 1200 will perform better than a stock 1200
