- Thanks for sticking around guys. Not long till round 2.
We were able to really get down to business with no major issues. We tested some things back-to-back and found some clear positives and negatives, but we were able to tick most things on the list as well as some tyre options for the race weekend including a front tyre option from Pirelli.
I was also able to do a race simulation for both the Superpole Race and long race. It’s very hard to compare, but it was very competitive and could be a fast race pace compared to last year. With that information and how the track conditions were today, at least we have good data to try to improve. We can be satisfied with the result and now we can start the “real work” to prepare further.
The team worked in a really good way all through the test - we ran out of time you could say, as there’s always more boxes you could tick but I started to really feel more confident with the R1. Yamaha and the guys in Milan have done a lot of positive work and I feel like I can get stuck in and ride the bike and have fun.
I had a smile on my face most of the test and always want more! We can be happy with the job we have done here and the progression made since Australia, it gives me a lot of confidence - I feel good and ready to start the weekend.

Montmelo is a great circuit with a lot of local moto-enthusiasm. Even on track days local people come to sit in the stands and watch. An awesome main straight into turns 1,2,3 linked together followed by blind corners and crests and long sweeping knee-down corners. Not far to Barcelona which is also cool.

Yip. Australia was rough. Get up, dust yourself off and get on it! I've often wondered whether the crew chief is more of a psychologist than anything else. So much comes down to interpersonal skills its crazy. A team doing well is communicating well.

I think JRs best skill and quality is the fact that he can stay positive on the biggest POS bikes. The Kawasaki wasn't always a championship winning bike and the Yamaha has got miles to go...

DORNA added them only is AUS because of the new surface being too grippy and the tyres wouldn't have lasted a whole race.
As above this was track specific. Pirelli were not able to change the tires sent out to the round as they are sent months ago via sea, once the new surface issues were identified it was too late to change compounds etc so safety first meant the pit stop was required. This has happened before in WSBK, but was a hopefully 1 off for this season.

Might need more time to adapt to the bike more. Rea's style is a bit old school and the Kawasaki was old so it worked, but maybe its time to get those shoulder/elbows down more eh? Like having your elbow in line with your knee, just a thought. Good luck this season.
