@@GlueGuitar I'm a Backpacker owner/player/lover myself. I've posted quite a few videos about it on my own YT channel, including this one: ruclips.net/video/zVCu8tIQRkQ/видео.html
11 years after posting this video it finally came across my feed this is great sounding. I see your still releasing videos that’s awesome I’ll be sure to check those out to. Still looks like you’re the only one that’s released this tune despite all the rave requests. Guess you can’t mess with perfection. Great work.
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to watch my little video, and I'm glad you liked the tune. Yes, I would surely love to see someone else playing it, and that is why I'm giving away the sheet music to everyone who asks for it. It’s really a lot easier to play than it might seem.
Who needs a full sized kick-ass price guitar when you can play like this on a guitar like this ... LOL. With the right inputs, this guitar can play with, and be up there, with some of the best sounds. Great big little piece of kit this is :)
Ha! Saw/heard this and was vibin' to it ... when I heard a phrase and said to myself, "Is that the guy who taught me to play Kashmir?!" ... and indeed it is! Goes to show you have your own sound!
Man ,my jaw dropped.......!!! It's insane that kind of phrasing and sound on a Backpacker !!!!!!!! So fuckin' GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your playing skills and song are amazing. I desperately wish I had that sort of skill on the guitar. Keep it up, dude! You rock!! On a comical side note, the face you make while rocking out like that makes it look like you just smelled a sour fart. 🤣
Just got a used backpacker, off ebay, the other day...don't know why..? Until now!!.Your an amazing guitar player..Where all amazing guitarists .".just ask us" But you got something special going on...what a neat arrangement....you wrote .and to make it come out of a stringed/stick like that....That's Good......Real Good......Thanks "KEEP PICK'N AND GRINN''IN"
Hi, I'm glad you like the tune. I'm using the strings Martin recommended for the Backpacker - Martin Acoustic 80/20 Bronze Extra Light (M170). Also, this is the DADGAD tuning, which is probably the main reason why it sounds differently. Thanks for watching!
I absolutely love this - you're a real inspiration to me! I'm finally getting consistent practice in guitar and it's my dream to play like this. Do you still give out the tabs?
Wow! Your groove is very impressive! You motivate me to buy this Martin travel guitar. but I m realistic, it ll take me years to make it sounds like you do!
So sweet and extremely well played! Great right hand technique. And this video really illustrates the goods of the Martin BackPacker. Great tone and superb playing!
Hi and thanks for watching! Yes, I have the sheet music (standard notation + tabs), I'll just need an e-mail address to send it to. You can send me an e-mail to GlueGuitarYT@gmail.com
I know a lot of people shit on the backpacker, but i like the sound. My first guitar had the same kind of sound so it's got some good memories ascociated with it
This is really Cool! Been playing the basic riff for a couple of weeks now but i'm lost when you take off. Is it still possible to get the tabs? That would be really great!! Thanks in advance.
Well, I'm not sure... depends how loud is the singing... the guitar is quite loud for it's size, but you should probably try it yourself before making any decision. Thanks for listening, I'm glad you like the tune!
Forgive the potentially stupid question but that Martin Backpacker Guitar is not hooked up in any acoustic-electric way, correct? I figure you have it set up with a MIC instead, which is why it sounds 'louder' -- Is this right? Thanks mate
Hi! It is a standard Martin Backpacker, no modifications whatsoever. The recording was done with Zoom H4n portable recorder, placed about 1 m in front of me. The only processing applied to the recorded tracks was a bit of compression followed by normalization (and compression was probably unnecessary because, due to its size, the dynamic range of the Backpacker is relatively poor). Thanks for watching!
hi there! any quick word on the backpacker? i'm quite interested in getting one and any opinion from you would be great. heard the action's a little high towards the bridge? thanks in advance and loved the playing!
I'm just starting to work in DADGAD and happened upon your video. It's an amazing example, especially so given that you're using the Backpacker. Would you mind sending your tabs? Thank you again for sharing this.
Awesome, love this. How hard is it fingerstyle with this guitar compared to say a classical guitar? I figure it must be really hard since strings would be a lot closer together.
Martin Backpacker features a standard width neck, so as far as the fingertips are concerned, it feels much the same as any other acoustic guitar (so the 1st an the 6th string at the nut are about 6 mm closer than on classical). The body shape is more of an obstacle. The neck is heavier than the body, it is not easy to find an appropriate position for the right hand, it is practically impossible to play it without a strap (unless you're lying on your back). In any case, I would not recommend to buy it before you try it.
Thanks a lot for your response and advice. Really appreciate it. I love this song and your playing - Brilliant. The "unless lying on back" comment made me laugh heaps, but I looked online after seeing you playing it so well and one reviewer said exactly same, that always feels like top is too heaving and pulling guitar towards floor. That's a shame since sounds great and in budget + would love some easy access to higher frets (since I have a classical - not a cutaway guitar). There is always some problem / negative I guess. I'll try it first if I find in the shop before I ever buy one. Cheers. Please post more songs like this.
Ok now I will ask what did you do to your backpacker to get it to sound so great ? I have two and both sound like junkPlease help me get mine to sound that good
+alice SMITH Nothing at all, I didn't even bother to change the strings since I bought it. I'd say the tune is written so that it sounds good on the backpacker (or any other instrument with poor bass and sustain). If I play e.g. Kashmir on my backpacker it also sounds like junk. Thanks for watching!
Can I also have the tabs for this? Thanks! You rock! I hope I can play this well in the future. I'll have to break this down and get it down a measure at a time!!!
Still the best Martin backpacker video on the internet.
Thank you! I really didn't expect so many people to like it.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a packet of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
Martin needs to hire you to promote this thing
A great ad for the Backpacker...and DADGAD tuning!
Completely unintentional ad... but the video probably wouldn't get as many views if it wasn't for the Backpacker. Thanks for watching!

I bought one of these as my first travel guitar. I manage backyard, beach, and bar jams just fine but I've never sounded like this player. Great job!
