- Thomas Dolby live Newcastle England, March 2nd 1984, I recorded this using Sony Beta VCR and Sony video tape. I have seen this many times on RUclips, but others have always split the performance up song by song, so here it is as broadcast.

Wow. A fairlight and a ppg wave. Top of the line back then.
R.I.P. Matthew Seligman.
That was him on the guitar/harmonica?
He's a brilliant artist. Watch his "Live Wireless". Electronic musicianship at its finest.
Thomas Dolby rocking a Fairlight in 84. I love it!
Loved his first album but kind of lost touch after that. Read his biography recently (an absolute hoot, so honest) and rediscovered his music. For once genius is an understatement, I hope he will release some new music one day.
Saw Mathew Seligman play with the reformed Soft Boys in 2002 (and once at a 90s reunion in Brighton but I was very drunk at the time..), a truly great talent and sadly missed.
Blew in from the hoverport
She was back in London
Pushed past the papermen
Calling her name
She smiled for the cameras
As the bodyguard grabbed me
Her eyes were gone forever
As they drove her away
thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you
You are very welcome
Excellent ! Thomas Dolby 👍🤟👏
Glad you enjoyed this
Just stumbled across this. Didn't care much for TD back in the day but saw him live a couple of years back & was amazed by his talent & personality. Thank you for uploading
Glad you enjoyed this, thank for watching and commenting
Thanks for sharing fella. Appreciated.
You are most welcome Andi 🙂
Thomas played keyboards on Def Leppard's two biggest albums Pyromania and Hysteria and even toured with them. Had no idea about this until recently.
wow - thanks for uploading this - i had this on vhs at the time and must have worn it out I played it so many times. Then, on 7th Feb 2021, on the closing credits of Channel 4 "The Great", they played it. Instantly looked for this and found it.
Oh, I really never knew it had been repeated. Anyway, glad you found this and enjoyed it.
@@ScottishTeeVee I think I must have had the same clip recorded from exactly the same showing, not a repeat.
@@ScottishTeeVee... but they played the track last night on the show I mention.
Nice to have the full performance - thanks. That's a 'who's who' of synthesizers on that stage: PPG, Fairlight, Jupiter 8, Jupiter 4 and the poor red SH-101.
If it was 1984 I'm surprised there was no DX7 though I don't remember Dolby using that one. Probably the only band in the 80s who didn't use it.
Yep. Not sure if he used an E-mu Emulator II, but that would have looked awesome in the mix too.
I don't suppose Channel 4 kept the tapes of 'The Tube', (if they were videotaped, as they went out live back in period). Always a great watch to get you in the mood while you got ready for a Friday night out 'Down Town'. Such a shame if they did...and didn't. Thanks for the upload though👍. Loved the Golden Age of Wireless LP and still do. Didn't know it was Roland kit that he used. I always thought it was a Fairlight for some reason.🙂
Even if CH4 do not have tapes, then they exist in the hands of collectors. Just last year 2021, a private collector uploaded every episode of the tube in full to RUclips, CH4 blocked them all.
@@ScottishTeeVee there are at least 2 1inch copies about... ha ha I know...
@@andyludders Sitting in archives, never to be seen ever again. Sure we get bits and bobs from time to time, but by the time they decided to share them in full any people who might be interested will be dead. Kinda like the recent Crossroads DVD boxed set, a great DVD collection, but the vast majority of fans are dust.
Oh FFS can't Joolz Holland ever NOT play blues licks. Every single fecking time he sits down at the piano, any piano with any band.
Yip, every time, he just cannot help himself
He became a prat long ago
Rember watching this 1983 I believe I'm sure the keyboard player with blond hair may have been in the band called BUGGLES.
I was giddy when I saw the fairlight CMI he was playing. No buttons, an early midi controller or mod but Wow wow wow!😂😂😂❤❤❤
すばらしい
I hope one caught that Sh101!!!!!
Yes - i cringed ......The PPG and Fairlight made my eyes water just being there - (and Lesley Ash) - Genius
Did anybody catch the SH101?
?
@@ScottishTeeVee It`s a Synth mate👍
the kids have absolutely no idea what hit 'm
Anybody know who the keyboardist is?
No idea but he has a secret supply of helium
@@nickburlton5821 It's Lyndon Connah. Last spotted playing keys for Go West.
