You very kindly wrote back to me telling me you often had lyrics pop in your head while ironing or feeding your cat 😊. You were a big part of my youth. Still love music but my taste is heavier, I have followed Tool since the 90s. I'm going to have to put your album on now and reminisce!
I was listening to so much music back in the 80's "New Wave" and all that. I think "Airwaves" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And I've enjoyed all of the videos I've seen of him on RUclips - not just music videos, but interviews, demonstrations of electronics in music, etc. A nice, genuine guy, I'm sure.

Just curious - I have a couple of questions in re: to a part of the sentence, in which you wrote, _"Your song made me a lot of money, dancing to it."_ *1. Exactly what song are you referring to? I assume SBMWS, eh?* *2. Was the dancing you refer to on a stage (while you collected immediate payment) or are you referring to something not quite that naughty?* 😮 TIA!
21 yr old fan (since you brought it up) and i love the video. i think its very cool to see people openly advocating for just doing things that make yourself more comfortable being yourself.
Excellent!! Your demographic would be exactly the opinion I would be interested in hearing their thoughts on Dolby’s original video : with the cultural experience you’ve had , do you think his video and song sound and look “dated” , or do you think (if one didn’t know) it has a somewhat “freshness” to it? I’m Gen X , so I remember when it was brand new , and it was a game changer and penetrated everyday conversation etc. - all anyone had to do was raise your hand in the air and yell “Science!!” - everyone knew what your were referring to . Just curious ……
Congratulations! I am so glad you decided to go for it! You look fantastic and I think it is because YOU feel more comfortable with this hair than without it. I started listening to your music in high school. I loved it then and I love it now! Thank you for all of your amazing music, videos and live performances. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing more of you! Cheers!
Thomas, your hair looks great, I got to see it from the second row in Bridgeport, Connecticut last week! It looks REAL and I was a bit puzzled because I didn't know what you had done! Hair or no hair, you are one of the greats. I've been following your work and career since I was a teen in the 80s and I was THRILLED to see you live. I read your memoir too. Great read. Be well, enjoy that hair!
Been a fan since you had hair, I'm really happy for you. As long as you're happy it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I like it for what it's worth.
Whatever make you happy What I or anyone else thinks shouldn’t be a consideration. You are a truly talented and gifted individual. Thank you for everything you’ve given us. We went to the summer concert tour planned here in Arizona. Unfortunately you were ill at the time and we didn’t get to see you. Hope you’re well and I hope we get to see you sometime in the future
Hi Thomas your hair looks amazing and i think its about what you want inside your heart. You are a musical genius and true inspiration and a great person. me as a true fan i think its all about what makes you happy. Not what others think. I loved seeing you in Islington from the front of the stage.
My favorite as well- but I didn't know who it was until the late-2000's via the internet, having only heard it a couple of times on the radio back in 1983 and missing the DJ's pronouncement of who it was.
@extantia I first bought it on cassette. Bought it based on "blinded me ..." Realized "Submarines" was such an ethereal song about a tragic thing (common during WW2 of course). And it was constructed with a bunch if electronic noise really, but the radio broadcast sounding announcement about a missing submarine (never a good sign) the sonar and whale song that's embedded in there puts you back 80yrs (40yrs back then, can you believe that?😁) in a second. Little hidden masterpiece.
Fantastic, Thomas! Great decision. Your excitement is very evident and we need a renewal of that every now & then. Wishing you much success on your tour.
My RUclips algorithm presented me with your video today, and I'm so glad. I've loved your music and your personality since the early 80s. I have a photo on my fridge of you from your 'mad scientist ' days. First of all, your 'new hair' really suits you - it looks as though this would be how it looked if you had never lost your hair. It's clear how happy it makes you, and that's lovely to see.
“Good Gracious Mr Dolby! You’re beautiful!” As Prof Pyke would say if he were hear with us. ❤ Thomas, you look fantastic, the hair looks great and neat style. Good for you! ❤
“Did you get new glasses?” You looked great without hair and you look great with hair. Most important to me is the amazing music you’ve made that I listen to to this day.
Damn, technology has gone leaps and bounds to produce such a fine product! The hairline is totally on point! I like how the salt'n pepper matches your real hair. As soon as the reveal I immediately thought of your, "She Blinded me with science" hairstyle! Totally spot on! Good on ya Thomas!!!! Cheers!
For me, the only important thing is that you feel happy. I don't care at all how much hair you have, because you are a great artist and we love your music. And congratulations! Because you look great. Greets from Chile.
my dad introduced me to your music when i was 19. now im 22, we went to your recent show in islington and i was so blown away by your beaming and very present stage presence. self care - especially for men - is unfortunately such a taboo still in the west, so good on you for looking after yourself in a way that’s right for you :)
As someone who’s married to a 64-year-old man, I absolutely love your hair. My husband has a similar color as well. I love the fact that you’re not trying to look 20, you look happy and glowing and you have every right to enjoy this. Thank you for being upfront and ignore any negative comments that may come your way. We all have to do what makes us happy and feel good. I’m 54 and I’m doing what makes me happy which is being a vegan and using a vegan ketogenic diet for bipolar disorder so I don’t really care if people say anything negative about it because I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time. By the way, we enjoyed your concert when you came to Santa Cruz, California very much!

Bald or no, you’re a legend in my eyes. Wait isn’t that Peter Gabriel,” in my eyes”? All love brother. David Hoffman? One of my favorite filmmakers. Hi David! Don’t forget to subscribe to David also. Great stuff!
The hair looks great, but … Honestly I’m mostly blown away to learn that Thomas Dolby is only 3 years older than me. That means that “The Flat Earth”, one of my favorite records of all time, was made by a 25 year old. While I was goofing around trying to figure out what life might someday hold for me, Thomas Dolby was creating music of incredible maturity, depth, and beauty. It’s astonishing, really. Once I’ve watched this video I’ll pull out “The Flat Earth” (vinyl that I’ve owned since 1984) for the umpteenth time and give it a spin. I just checked, and it’s right there at the head of the often-played material, where it belongs.
Thank you for being open to sharing this with everyone. Anytime a big change to your appearance happens everyone, including yourself, feels uncertain but eventually it’s just you! Do whatever makes you feel good! ❤
Thank you, Thomas, for sharing your journey- it’s such a personal issue and you’ve brought it out into the open I love you and your music no matter what, but I celebrate your choice and I think it looks amazing Cheers
I personally think you look much cooler bald. But whatever makes you happy and comfortable is the important thing. You are a great artist. Picasso didn’t need a hair system. I too am a bald man and really like it. Very little maintenance. When I think about all the time I wasted on my hair it’s probably an extra year I won’t get back.
Thomas Dolby! I love you! I was born in 1998 but love your music. It really captures the 80s vibe! Listening to your music, feels like reliving it. Thank you~
If you read this, sir, I would like to pay you a compliment. I saw you perform at a little theater in Washington, D.C. (the Warner) in 1986. The energy that you projected during that show was a phenomenon. You were jumping off of the bench! I have to say, that was a magical evening and one I will always remember as my favorite concert (and I have been to dozens). Thank you! Your hair is very flattering and you're still handsome, by the way- coming from a 62 year old man. 👍🏻
What a fascinating, open and authentic video-log. Just based on what he said, David is a great friend indeed - perfect response. You look so different with hair .. quite an amazing change. As David said, it's about how you feel. You looked great to me both with and without - however for the most part it's about what thoughts someone shares, which sets my perception of a person.
I'm 55 years old, and my hair is thinning a little bit in the front now. I always told myself that if I started losing my hair, I would just keep my head shaved. It really is stressing me out right now, which may be making it worse. My dad started losing his hair in his 20s, so I guess I'm lucky in that respect. I don't see myself taking this route for a few reasons, but everybody's different.
I noticed i was losing my hair at 18. Happened in stages. Anyway. If i were you, look at your diet. Get hormones checked. High levels of c i rtisol have something to do with it. Losing hair only reinforces it in some. If i had the cash id get mine dine. Since you only recently started losing it, look at those things. Goid luck.
Pattern hair loss is NOT caused by stress. There are some very stressed people (men) in the world who never lose their hair. Worrying that worry will cause hair loss, so you worry about worrying, is a pointless carousel to jump on and can damage you in other ways.
I've always thought if you're gonna go bald just own it. Which you did. But I never considered the idea that if you're going to get hair replacement then you can and should own it too. You're a cool dude! Also, I'm younger than your demo and mostly listen to progressive metal but you've got some real bangers, man. Airhead, Radio Silence, Airwaves and I Scare Myself are all great songs
You be you. You are an absolute musical genius with or without hair. Dare I say maybe even underrated? Rock this upcoming tour with confidence my friend. 50 years from now your hair or lack of it will mean nothing….
Hello Thomas! Excellent decision you have made. Undoubtedly, it is something very well executed. I am 58 years old and have a lot of hair, and I have always wondered what I would do if I ever lost it, I feel very identified with some of the reflections in your video. Ultimately, what separates that mane from a bald head is only a good shave, whereas the reverse path is more complicated, and therein lies the value of your decision, to take the risk and achieve a formidable result.
More power to you, Thomas. Do what feels good to you, hair or no hair, but total props for being honest with yourself. That's the most important thing.
David Hoffman is an absolute legend, I've been following his stuff on RUclips for a few years now, so interesting that you've been friends for ages. This video was just randomly recommended to me

Just curious - I have a couple of questions in re: to a part of the sentence, in which you wrote, _"Your song made me a lot of money, dancing to it."_
*1. Exactly what song are you referring to? I assume SBMWS, eh?*
*2. Was the dancing you refer to on a stage (while you collected immediate payment) or are you referring to something not quite that naughty?* 😮
TIA!
It looks great - congratulations and thanks so much for sharing!
Two of my favorite creators in conversation- amazing!
I'm of a certain age and you sir, are a shining light in my life. I have no need for hair but your new rug is magnificent! Much love to you!!
She blinded me with science is my favorite 80s song. You are a legend
Thanks for One of our Submarines, Mr Dolby. Wickedly haunting song that serves as a timestamp full of good memories for me.😁
My favorite!!
First timem I heard that I couldn't get it out of my head. Like right now, since you mentioned it.
@@jamesgoforth1606 😁
Thomas, you look fantastic, the hair looks great and neat style. Good for you!
❤
"Good heavens." How many times did you listen to the song??
“Did you get new glasses?”
You looked great without hair and you look great with hair.
Awesome music of my youth! We need much more Thomas Dolby in todays insane world!!!
Losing your hair is like having a major illness. You got guts. I wish I had your courage and comfortablity
Don't you think it looks like a WIG though? It doesn't hang naturally....
Thomas, thank you for your honesty and genuineness. You are an inspiration.
So great you have a channel on here. Your music is great!!
Thanks for letting us enjoy it.
I had your tunes on the turntable this morning.
Dynamite, decades later.
I myself am much under 40. 24 actually! I heard you on the radio as a child, and became obsessed. Every album I begged for. You’re a generational hero for the weirdos and always will be. I can’t wait to learn how to get my hair back in 20 years!!!
Thomas, I think it looks great! I am a full time wig wearer (have alopecia) and I know what you feel. Kuddos to you for taking that step and having the confidence to share. Loved watching you growing up (I was very young)!
Love the honesty here. Thanks for this.
Looking handsome as always Thomas. With or without hair!
Thru
Sir Thomas Dolby OWNS TECHNOLOGY.
NO EXPLAINATIONS NEEDED, SIR.
We are forever grateful for you and your muse.
Well yeah, he explained nothing.
I was not expecting this lol. My opinion doesn't matter glad you feel good. In the future I'm looking forward to more music content 😁
Bravo Mr Dolby, bravo. Your handsome with or without the hair. Your confidence to share your ! personal journey also demonstrates your attractiveness through courage! Well groomed, handsome, talented….. you got it all Thomas! Live your best you! Cheers!
This video randomly popped up, but your new hair looks amazing 👏🌟🤩 nice one!
Saw you in London yesterday...you look great Mr Dolby...thanks for the great gig!
26 years old, listened to you all my life thanks to my dad! Love this hair story. “Good heavens Mr. Dolby, you’re beautiful!” Hoping to get to see you live one of these days! (maybe in Minneapolis?) Best of luck on the tour!
... You Look AWESOME Thomas ... It not only looks Great on you, but you are truly exuding confidence and happiness ... So Looking forward to seeing you LiVe on Tour ... BriLLiant !!!
I discovered Thomas when my dad showed me the "Leipzig is Calling" performance and he had this badass headset/goggles combo
Brilliant honesty. Cheers!
Looks great, Thomas! It's OK to enhance our looks, if not too extreme
Hair, not a big deal. You are rockin' it!
Kathleen is a nice girl..she loves you no matter what and vice versa.
Too much is based on looks in life. We are more, much more..
I am sad that I missed your visit here in Seattle in 2013, total bummer!
Would Miss work and no one to go w me. Kinda far from home.
...maybe someday
I am your age 66.. 1958 WE slow down, but always remember where we've been, and try to revel in it..can't get it back. That's ok. ❤
You look great Thomas. As fans we loved you before...hair or no hair makes no difference to us. But so pleased you are happier, and can't wait to see you at shepherd's Bush empire this summer 👍👍
Bald or no, you’re a legend in my eyes. Wait isn’t that Peter Gabriel,” in my eyes”? All love brother. David Hoffman? One of my favorite filmmakers. Hi David! Don’t forget to subscribe to David also. Great stuff!
The hair looks great, but …
Honestly I’m mostly blown away to learn that Thomas Dolby is only 3 years older than me.
Thank you, Thomas, for sharing your journey- it’s such a personal issue and you’ve brought it out into the open
I love you and your music no matter what, but I celebrate your choice and I think it looks amazing
Cheers
I love your new single, “Hairhead”….:)😊
😂
I personally think you look much cooler bald. But whatever makes you happy and comfortable is the important thing. You are a great artist. Picasso didn’t need a hair system. I too am a bald man and really like it. Very little maintenance. When I think about all the time I wasted on my hair it’s probably an extra year I won’t get back.
I was surprised to see David Hoffman!!!
Thanks Thomas for being so candid. You're helping a lot of men out in the world.
Thomas Dolby! I love you! I was born in 1998 but love your music. It really captures the 80s vibe! Listening to your music, feels like reliving it. Thank you~
Good luck to u Thomas. Looks great. Was this the same tech that Gary Numan used also ? Share a link bro
The crossover we needed! I discovered David’s videos a few years ago, great to hear you two have been friends for quite a while!
Same here, I love David's RUclips channel! I've been a fan of his for years.
My husband and I saw him at Warner Theater too. Awesome show ☺️
You have always been a musical inspiration. You do you, we support you. Much love to Thomas Dolby!!!!.
Goid luck.
@@henrystowe6217
I have had a couple of stressful years, so I believe you're correct. Cortisol is the cause.
Try Purador shampoo, can reduce if not reverse hair loss
I would say Thomas is progressive pop.
I'm 32 and your song has been stuck in my head for a large majority of my life
I watched it when it first came out on MTV. We saw all the good songs come out!!!
More power to you, Thomas. Do what feels good to you, hair or no hair, but total props for being honest with yourself. That's the most important thing.
Congratulations! You look great!
Thanks Thomas! I'll be 60 this year & have been wearing the bald look for over 20 years...great info. man.
Omg Thomas the smile. The smile is so telling. You're GRINNING. That's nice to see.
David Hoffman is an absolute legend, I've been following his stuff on RUclips for a few years now, so interesting that you've been friends for ages. This video was just randomly recommended to me
Screen Kiss is one of the top 100 songs ever written. I cant thank you enough for every emotion those first two records have caused me to feel.
I posted Screen
Kiss as one of my favs too! Beautiful song
