I have been listening to this song since the mid 80s. I still listen to it on a regular basis 30 years later. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.
i listened to it today, after not hearing it for a long time. i cried. especially the mix with MLK Jr. and it being covid - when so many wild animals seem to be multiplying in the "quiet" of humanity for the first time in too long. People have seeing whales in greater numbers breaching off the coast of San Francisco.
Saw him at Harlow's in Sacramento California when I was a taxi driver. After the show I went to work (night shift). Got a call to pick someone up from the club and, lo and behold, it was him! We talked about beer. Cool guy!
Wow! I had forgotten how moving this song is. Dolby is just an incredible artist. The Flat Earth was one of the best albums ever recorded. Amazing talent.
Purchased the DVD, watched in the home theater, and I was automatically taken back to my era. The sound enveloped me in comfort because Dolby was doing what he does best, and that is romance the keyboard and push his talent to an all new extreme high. He climbs Mt. Everest with each touch of the key...mammoth steps.
this is the man whom all Dj's must pay hommage to ... for without dolby, there can be no techno/house music.... A true pioneer in the synth/sound board music..
How cryptic to include a soundbite from Martin Luther King, when Martin Luther (a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and monk) from the early 1500's, railed against Copernicus and was a huge proponent of the Flat Earth Model.
I want to click Like twice and vote six stars. What an incredible performance. Nice to see Mr. Dolby is still getting out and doing music, and this is a truly great mix. How poignant. I want to buy this.
This song is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. I remember walking along the beach in the Dominican Republic listening to this song on my IPod...and belting out "And if love is all you're missing....look into your heart, is anybody home?" to basically the ocean and feeling like I was being lifted out of my body. And I wasn't even high! Thank you, Thomas. You are amazing!
TD is a musical genius. I saw him live at C2 in Brighton a few years ago and it was one of the best and most intimate shows I have ever been too. His live sound was incredible because it had all the detail and nuances of the recorded songs.
I had the blessing to see him 3 times in Denver in 2006: may-bluebird, Sept-Boulder 29th outdoor mall grand opening, Dec-Gothic, ..all amazing. Haven't seen him back here since...come back Thomas
Im reading Thomas Dolbys book right now, and it makes me appreciate his music so much more. Anyone who likes his music should pick up a copy. Its definitely worth the time.
As a musician myself who was very influenced by Dolby, this video confirms his genius and underscores my love of his work. Absolutely amazing stuff requiring a level of focus and talent possessed by a rare few. Thanks for the post. And yes, I will track down the DVD.
Was so lucky to see him in 2012 in Toronto performing this. Have been a fan of Thomas but mostly for this album which I find brilliant-this song in particular. “And if love is all you’re missing. Look into your heart. Is anybody home?” Gives me chills every single time. Thank you Mr Dolby.
I heard "She Blinded Me With Science" thinking it is simply a novelty of a song, kinda like the one hit wonder "Whip It". But now that I have heard Dolby's other stuff, I definitely recommend "The Flat Earth" album as a must-hear.
Flac Or Gtfo Devo was not a one hit wonder. You are obviously not informed about Devo's long lasting influence in the new wave/punk realm. According to you Thomas Dolby is a one hit wonder. You are mistaken.
Yeah, they were both one 'hit' wonders but each put out lots of good music. Having grown up listening to K-ROQ at the time - I'd assumed that both had lots of charting singles.
Dolby is in NO WAY considered a "one hit wonder". In the '80s you couldn't listen to the radio or watch MTV for more than an hour or 2 without catching one of his pieces (and not just the same one over and over... like Safety Dance by Men Without Hats... which was an awesome one hit wonder :D ). He was highly regarded enough to be brought on to do one of the Minds Eye video soundtracks (which includes my favorite song of his, Quantum Mechanic). I mean, One of our Submarines, Hyperactive, Europa.. those where huge.
@Stevie2112Rush Thanks for the video and the link. This man's music has made a difference at various points in my life, and it felt great to buy directly from him (assuming CD baby is his route of choice). It's a very small way of saying thank you for what his music has done for my soul. Music is the key that opens my soul and allows me to get a grip, channel a memory, or touch any emotion I desired. Thomas Dolby has been a part of the soundtrack of my life, and I am eternally grateful.
Thomas Robert- you erudite genius. I wish i had been there for this. We love you. and as much as you grow, never forget your early work- it is a touchstone to your soul. And i what we love you for!
Well, compared to some other electronic artists today who already have the WHOLE song programmed onto a laptop that only require a space bar hit to "perform" the track.
In addition continuing composing after the Wireless/Flat Earth/Aliens era, Dolby founded a software company called Beatnik that developed the software for cell phone ring tones. Beatnik is still in business and the software is used in many cell phones. He's a very smart man in addition to his musical talent.
I saw TMDR on this tour in Boston and he was just flat out amazing. Totally connected with the audience, built the songs up beautifully, and completely blew us away. Such a great show!
Genius composer... music transcending the decades and still as fresh, relevant and beautiful as ever. So many great pieces of music.. Please play live in the Uk.. get those Toy People together... please!
My parents tell me this is what they would put me to sleep to when i was 2... makes sense, this is truly beautiful. he looks so lonely up there, he probably totally blew himself out in the 80s'/90's
Performing such live-sequencing is something I would love to be able to do. Mr Dolby (erm "Thomas Dolby" else Dolby(R)(TM) Labs will yell) is a master of this art!
I've been trying to hear some Thomas Dolby for so long. hard to believe i'm watching this . I let some chick borrow the cassette for Flat Earth, never got it back or heard it again...until now Thomas Dolby is funky
what i like most about this performance is the lack of BG voice, and i noticed i filled in in my head, which gives a great (but unhearable) depth. also the new sound from the novation suits the song really really good. i love this version and was quite astonished that TD did this live! genius in simplicity..
I guess the price has gone up, SO WORTH IT, I guess those of us that bought closer to the concert date were rewarded with the low 9.99 price. Support Thomas, Maybe we can see a tour again soon. He is a force of one. -Thanks for watching,Steve
@bearhead3 I guess the price has gone up, SO WORTH IT, I guess those of us that bought closer to the concert date were rewarded woth the low 9.99 price. Support Thomas, Maybe we can see a tour again soon. He is a force of one. -Thanks for watching,Steve
After 20,ooo viewings , Mr Feder (assumed) You , Sir, have expressed exacly how I felt when watching this song live. That is exactly why I posted it originally. You have to appreciate the layers, the timing, the fact that he ONLY HAD TO DO IT ONCE! LIVE! Peace and Love, Stevie B!
I have been listening to this song since the mid 80s. I still listen to it on a regular basis 30 years later. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.

Has the penny dropped?
Same for me 🙏🏻
My fav album of all time xx
And you are finally realizing that the earth truly is a plane!? ruclips.net/user/shortsVYMAkNh4zyY?feature=share
I've been a Dolby fan since the early '80s. A true one man band. Tremendous talent and creativity on display here.
The construction and execution of this song is so solid. Dolby is an amazing conductor of music. And this song particular really shows his genius
It helps us see the difference between wannabes and true genius when creating music.
Saw him at Harlow's in Sacramento California when I was a taxi driver. After the show I went to work (night shift). Got a call to pick someone up from the club and, lo and behold, it was him! We talked about beer. Cool guy!
Saw him in Washington, DC during the "Science..." tour. Fantastic.
OMG!! That is so cool. What a nice memory! He's really incredible. Got to see him perform in NYC, I think it was Radio City, back in the 80s, LOL
chim chim That is an awesome story. I would love to meet him.
oh god.... he is a genius i want to share a beer with him, too
Wow! I had forgotten how moving this song is. Dolby is just an incredible artist. The Flat Earth was one of the best albums ever recorded.
Amazing talent.
Truly.

Everest with each touch of the key...mammoth steps.
An innovator. A giant.
Daniel Appleton A god.
Honestly this is really a beautiful song.
Dolby's arrangements are no doubt the most creative of any artist in the business- a truly hard mind to to understand, pure genius.
One of my favorite songs.
this is the man whom all Dj's must pay hommage to ... for without dolby, there can be no techno/house music....
A true pioneer in the synth/sound board music..
this is one of the best songs i've ever heard. not into electronic music typically, really not at all. this is a very special tune.
This song makes my heart soar... and has from the beginning. So beautiful.
Like i fell in love with this song in first three seconds, I couldn’t wait it to start to hear it all
How cryptic to include a soundbite from Martin Luther King, when Martin Luther (a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and monk) from the early 1500's, railed against Copernicus and was a huge proponent of the Flat Earth Model.
actually perfect
As an adherent of good science and the Bible, I think this would be a novel concept. TD is a pioneer in the FE and the arts.
Nailed it!
Excellent comment.
earth has no shape, just a wild gang of atoms, no form. universe full of particles.
this sound is pure love for the soul.
What a great and unique man and what a good music he makes.. Gotta love him!
The man is a genius ! Love it.
I want to click Like twice and vote six stars. What an incredible performance. Nice to see Mr. Dolby is still getting out and doing music, and this is a truly great mix. How poignant. I want to buy this.

i hear ya... but just now, rehearing it, i'm teared up a bit with the last line, "this flat old earth is in your gentle hands"...
@@nigelseven8935 oh, yeah. Man we’ve failed in so many ways.
Brilliant Synth Master used to listen to Flat Earth album a lot...love how he just builds up this wonderful song from scratch
TD is a musical genius. I saw him live at C2 in Brighton a few years ago and it was one of the best and most intimate shows I have ever been too. His live sound was incredible because it had all the detail and nuances of the recorded songs.

More than just talent. Genious probably
What an amazing talent. The Flat Earth is one of my all time favourite albums. Takes me back to long nights spent with his lp's and my headphones.
Saw him many years ago on this tour. Incredible
This song is like a warm blanket on a cold night
Qué bonito eso ❤
Im reading Thomas Dolbys book right now, and it makes me appreciate his music so much more. Anyone who likes his music should pick up a copy. Its definitely worth the time.
This video is awesome. I had the honor to see Thomas Dolby live at a small Orlando FL club. It was the best small venue performance I've ever been to.
Genius at work
The Flat Earth is just a wonderful album. Really enjoy this cool version of the title track. Wishing you well, Thomas Robertson Dolby.
did an interview with him once. Guy is as down to earth, humble and brilliant as they come. One of my favorite songs. Thanks for posting.
As a musician myself who was very influenced by Dolby, this video confirms his genius and underscores my love of his work. Absolutely amazing stuff requiring a level of focus and talent possessed by a rare few. Thanks for the post. And yes, I will track down the DVD.
very pleasant to the ears and so true !!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Thomas dolby golden age of wireless, art in it's highest form. The man is a pure artist of the highest order
One man band , genius and amazing... thank you Mr Dolby
OMG! I love him! He's incredible. Such an underrated artist, imo!! His music is timeless!!
ToonieMama He's awesome.
Thomas you're a genius. You're Tesla's of electronic music
This new version brought tears to my eyes. I love this song! Where is Thomas? I need a regular fix of this sublime music!
I heard "She Blinded Me With Science" thinking it is simply a novelty of a song, kinda like the one hit wonder "Whip It". But now that I have heard Dolby's other stuff, I definitely recommend "The Flat Earth" album as a must-hear.
+Flac Or Gtfo Astronauts and Heretics is awesome too!
Flac Or Gtfo Devo was not a one hit wonder. You are obviously not informed about Devo's long lasting influence in the new wave/punk realm. According to you Thomas Dolby is a one hit wonder. You are mistaken.
Have you heard Dissidents? One of the best songs ever.
Yeah, they were both one 'hit' wonders but each put out lots of good music.

This is the most watched video to me on RUclips. I just cant get tired of enjoying it. So beautiful. I will go to sleep now with a smile on my face.
God, this guy still rocks. So many memories from College!
good grief - I still want to be Mr. Dolby when I grow up, I am in my 50's now - lyrics music vocals - stunning......
Absolutely amazing
Thomas Robert- you erudite genius. I wish i had been there for this. We love you. and as much as you grow, never forget your early work- it is a touchstone to your soul. And i what we love you for!
I was at this show. Excellent performance. The man is a master.
Amazing to see Dolby build loops like this. Forgot how much I love this song.
Brilliant. Real live performance, everything constructed live. Pure talent to create that amazing song by himself. Dolby forever! :D
I like him too but that bass is programmed ;D
Well, compared to some other electronic artists today who already have the WHOLE song programmed onto a laptop that only require a space bar hit to "perform" the track.
Dan Wilcox He is pure genius. In every genre. I would use all that gear too if only I could afford it ;)
WOW !! I never thought I will say this, but I like him even more than the 80s right now, such a powerful and intelligent artist !
In addition continuing composing after the Wireless/Flat Earth/Aliens era, Dolby founded a software company called Beatnik that developed the software for cell phone ring tones. Beatnik is still in business and the software is used in many cell phones. He's a very smart man in addition to his musical talent.
Master piece
Watched Mr. Dolby live in Birmingham UK when he last played. Quite possibly the best gig I have ever attended...
Stunning! This guy who really knows his way around keyboards. A real original artist; like a breath of fresh air.
I saw TMDR on this tour in Boston and he was just flat out amazing. Totally connected with the audience, built the songs up beautifully, and completely blew us away. Such a great show!
i was a young woman when i purchased this fabulous vinyl album ~ grandmother now ...more in love than i was then :o) ~
Mr Dolby, admiro su música desde los 13 años. Un gran talento siempre está grabando la banda de sonido de la vida.
Genius composer... music transcending the decades and still as fresh, relevant and beautiful as ever. So many great pieces of music.. Please play live in the Uk.. get those Toy People together... please!
I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2007.
Truly, one of the Teslas of music. I'd take a second mortgage to see him perform.
One of the most beautiful and discredited singer/keyboardist/composer/producers of the latter 20th century.
Bon chance in your boat Mr Dolby.
Loved this music when it first came out and I am still listening to it.
Just wow...
I have this Vinyl..the whole album resonates and haunts me...every track.. and I'm sure I'm not alone... Thank You TD :)
That was Kick-Ass..
The Earth can be any shape you want!
Or any color your want - in your case it's red
lol
It's all in our mind.
If Love is all you're missing ,Listen to your heart , is there anyboby home.
It's waiting for you there.
Beautiful song, great performance.
Amazing live track of one of my favorite songs; a true musician's musician! Live long and prosper!
It's like watching a wizard at a cauldron
My parents tell me this is what they would put me to sleep to when i was 2... makes sense, this is truly beautiful. he looks so lonely up there, he probably totally blew himself out in the 80s'/90's
THE BEST ALBUM
Genius!!
the man is so under rated way ahead of his time clever ingenious and thought inspiring. salute the wizz of the keyboards.
Superb. I've always loved this: amazing that he can perform it , solo, with a refreshing twist that adds, and is glorious. Stunning.
Still timeless! An awesome inspiration!
Amazing! I love the way he builds up the song using the sequencer!
one of my favorite songs. thanks for posting
Brings back fantastic memories, I wish I could be there again.
So in love with this live take!
just freaking love this song!
AWESOME!!!!!! Will be talking about this on my next next show! Great music!! Very difficult to do!!
Has anyone interviewed him on the subject?
Love watching this man work!
Great stuff, I am one of his biggest fans and watching this stuff brings back some great memories
Didn't hear a single tic. And I think the video itself is wonderfully revealing and honest about Dolby's compositional methods. Love it!
Performing such live-sequencing is something I would love to be able to do. Mr Dolby (erm "Thomas Dolby" else Dolby(R)(TM) Labs will yell) is a master of this art!
Hello from the future! Nine years on and he still brings joy. Yes, that lawsuit was ridiculous!
35,000 Views and some amazing comments. This guy is truly loved and appreciated - Stevie B!
I've been trying to hear some Thomas Dolby for so long. hard to believe i'm watching this . I let some chick borrow the cassette for Flat Earth, never got it back or heard it again...until now Thomas Dolby is funky
A big live act with the presence of mister King simply can't go wrong... and I'm a die hard fan of mister Robertson.
Still one of my favourite albums...
This looks like it was a great concert.
Thanks for posting. Gotta find this DVD,
An enduring masterpiece than forever changes my life.
what i like most about this performance is the lack of BG voice, and i noticed i filled in in my head, which gives a great (but unhearable) depth. also the new sound from the novation suits the song really really good. i love this version and was quite astonished that TD did this live! genius in simplicity..
Wow, fantastic live version. Hope to see you in Europe soon❣️♥️❣️
It's only a few years ago. A DVD of the Soul Inhabitant live tour was produced by Dolby and is available.
I guess the price has gone up, SO WORTH IT, I guess those of us that bought closer to the concert date were rewarded with the low 9.99 price. Support Thomas, Maybe we can see a tour again soon. He is a force of one.
-Thanks for watching,Steve
beautiful track still. nice to see the build up really done live.
Inspire to be different! Follow your own road! Thanks Thomas Dolby.
@bearhead3 I guess the price has gone up, SO WORTH IT, I guess those of us that bought closer to the concert date were rewarded woth the low 9.99 price. Support Thomas, Maybe we can see a tour again soon. He is a force of one.

Saw him on that tour at the Rialto in Tucson. Small crowd - intimate, awesome.
Love Thomas Dolby music, fee! Like your in films when you listen amazing stuff and so are my head movies
After 20,ooo viewings , Mr Feder (assumed) You , Sir, have expressed exacly how I felt when watching this song live. That is exactly why I posted it originally. You have to appreciate the layers, the timing, the fact that he ONLY HAD TO DO IT ONCE! LIVE!

This is better than the studio version
