Anda’s talking about Vonnegut reminded me something Piscaso said that I think is very poignant for starting creators, and more than a few veteran ones. “You need to learn the rules as a student, so you can break them like an artist.”
I think this was an awesome way of making a video and bringing your other viewers together and enjoying different genres of books and authors! I loved it. ❤
"Sirens Of Titan" is my favourite Kurt Vonnegut novel. Al Stewart was obviously a Vonnegut fan too and wrote a great song based on the book..."I was drawn by the sirens of titan, carried along by their call, seeking for a way to enlighten. searching for the sense of it all..."
I loved hearing some of your favorites outside of horror! I'm not as much of a reader as my husband, probably due to my pretty severe ADD and being somewhere on the autism spectrum😅, so I do better with film..*however* I do love stories and your taste in stories of all kind are pretty spot on with ours ( we have almost every book you mentioned) so I truly enjoy your videos! We *love* vonnegut, but there were one or two you mentioned that we don't have so I can't wait to grab those! ❤
I’m a huge Greek mythology fan! I had to read The Odyssey in 7th grade and that was it for me. You should look up Joseph Campbell’s books. I used The Power of Myth and The Hero With A Thousand Faces for my BA thesis. Also random but have you ever read Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy? It’s Lovecraftian light I guess lol. It’s children’s adventure that’s also urban fantasy. I reread the series every couple of years. I’m obsessed with middle school adventure/fantasy books when I’m not reading horror lol.
You have great taste in authors! I (a 54 yr old guy) share many of your favorites. I'm reading Mother Night currently - it may be my favorite Vonnegut. Fear and Loathing is a singular classic.
some of my favorite non-horror books: barbara kingsolver's the poisonwood bible, wally lamb's i know this much is true, daniel quinn's ishmael, ken grimwood's replay
Awesome list! I adore Ray Bradbury and am steadily working through everything he has written. Totally agree about Jane Eyre, definitely dark, gothic and creepy, and one of my favorite reads as an English major! Have you read Jane Slayre, a classic monster mash, but in my opinion really good. I have The Metamorphosis on my kindle, no idea why I haven't read it yet. I am going to be doing a top 100 novels of all time series, which is a bit daunting as a horror channel. My favorite non-horror author is probably Raymond Feist, who wrote some mind-blowing fantasy, in my opinion.
Albert Camus' The Stranger was a big influence for Avenged Sevenfold's new album Life is But a Dream. Great list and definitely lovin' the channel. Peace and Blessings.
Chuck Palahniuk's new book, Not Forever But For Now, came out two days ago. If you happen to read it, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. Love your videos.
My own personnal book recommendation would be "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle. It has a tid bit of horror at some point, existentialism, it is together a fairytale and the parody of a fairytale, it's just genius through and through.
I have the ridiculously sized copy of “Curse of Lono” by Hunter S. Thompson. Which looking it up I guess is kind of rare now? 33cm x 44cm or about 13” x 17.3”. One of my favorite non-horror authors is Tad Williams.
Hi Anda! I've just discovered your channel today, and so far it's wonderful :D I was wondering if you've ever had a chance to read either House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski, or Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt? Sorry if I missed them in one of your videos. And if you have, I'm so curious about your thoughts on them? :D and also on horror (?) comedy books like the John Dies at the End series. On a side note, I'd totally recommend Liminal States by Zack Parsons. Very unique concept. But as for favorite non-horror authors, for me it's Dostoevsky, Huxley, And Murakami :)
It's no coincidence that the hero of Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" is named Billy Pilgrim. The book could just as easily have been called Billy Pilgrim's Progress.
I did my honors thesis on Jane Eyre - I noticed that Bronte mentions books that people are reading. I wondered if there's a reason/connection and there is! I also love Vonnegut and Bradbury. I read The Stranger in Grade 8 (I'm from Montreal) and in French. It scarred me. I still remember it as well. TFS!
Undoubtedly Jane Eyre is all of those things (and more!) "Wuthering Heights" by sister Emily is even more bizarre, demented and deranged...but in a good way!
Fun fact about Jane Eyre: While it most definitely as a love story in it, it was considered a work of Gothic Fiction at the time. A tradition in British Gothic fiction, going back to Ann Radcliffe, was to call them "romances" which in that case meant something whimsical, strange and or mysterious. Also, American Psycho is more of a brutal social satire, along the lines of A Modest Proposal, then Horror. Lunar Park and Imperial Bedrooms (a sequel to Less Than Zero) are closer to traditional Horror.
Invisible monsters was one of the only books that I finished the last page and just sat there thinking “what the heck did I just read?!” It was great! Lol
About my very favorite authors?! Well, I must say Arthur Conan Doyle, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, and also Henry Rider Haggard.
@@AndaKent you’re very welcome. I just picked his work up and I’m impressed. I really like his style. Pretty graphic stuff and I’d be interested in your opinion of his books

Hey Anda. I’m the subscriber that inspired this video. It’s so cool that you did this. My favourite non-horror book is probably Catch-22.

Ray Bradbury is one of my favorites too. Something Wicked This Way Comes and Dandelion Wine are two of my personal favorites.
I jumped on The Devil all Time so quick! I can’t wait to read it!
Fight Club is not talked about enough so awesome to see! ❤

Mother Night absolutely blew me away. Slaughterhouse Five has always been my favorite but that one might take the cake. Thank you for watching!

I just got September house I’m so excited! I also just got legendary witches by Cass Kay

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt is very good. Non horror...drama, mystery, with some supernatural sprinkled in.
It's no coincidence that the hero of Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" is named Billy Pilgrim. The book could just as easily have been called Billy Pilgrim's Progress.
What translation of the Inferno do you prefer?
Yes I also went through a chuck Palahniuk phase in HS. Love his books.

Have you read sirens of titan by Vonnegut? It’s one of my favorites by him for sure!
Have you heard the Al Stewart song of the same name? He was obviously a Vonnegut fan too!
Hi Anda! Have you seen the film adaptation of Harrison Bergeron? Vonnegut story. One of my all time favorites!

Great video! Forgive my ignorance because I’m fairly new to the channel - But have you ever read Peyton Place?
Invisible monsters was one of the only books that I finished the last page and just sat there thinking “what the heck did I just read?!” It was great! Lol
About my very favorite authors?! Well, I must say Arthur Conan Doyle, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, and also Henry Rider Haggard.
i really want to read Something Wicked This Way Comes but i just can’t get myself to open it up and start it!!
Have you ever read anything by Eric Larocca? I just picked up ‘You’ve Lost A Lot Of Blood’ yesterday then had to buy all the rest of his works
No I haven't! But I've been recommended his books a lot. I've really got to pick one up. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@AndaKent you’re very welcome. I just picked his work up and I’m impressed. I really like his style. Pretty graphic stuff and I’d be interested in your opinion of his books
I went to high school and my first year of college with rich kids in L.A. in the '80s.
Less than Zero was that world.
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Not exactly horror, but close.
I was going to read Slaughterhouse Five, but then realized that it was unstuck in time.
Have you ever heard the song Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury" by Rachel Bloom? It's the funniest song I've ever heard 😅
you know I really think that if you liked the stranger you will also like no longer human by ozamu dazai
YOUR SO PRETTY
Have you ever read cell by Stephen king and watched the movie? I loved the movie and now I wanna read it
I haven't! There are so many King books/stories that I haven't read, and movies I haven't seen. I've never watched this one.
Chuck P’s last name is pronounced “Paula Nick.”
ew, non-horror
