Covering Richards 3:43 vocals and Garth’s organ playing is no easy feat. Excellent! 👍✌🏾

very respectable cover of a beatifully sad danko tune.

Rick Danko sang it but it is a Robby Robertson tune. The writer claims ownership not the singer.

@@seanmcaleavy2369 I refuse to believe given the sorta trances Danko entered when he sang Stage Fright that it's anyone else's song.

@@Benesat I hear what you are saying and Rick certainly gives the song its personality. But drug-induced trances aside, Robbie Robertson conjured up from his brain the words and the music to this song. He wrote it.

@@seanmcaleavy2369 I definitely don’t want to be one of those “Robbie Robertson was a total snake” people because I think there was way way more nuance in the situation, the eventual drug stupors being one of those problems. There’s a lot of stuff (especially in the period where the band started fragmenting more) I think Robertson took control because it was necessary under those circumstances. But there’s a few earlier songs, where I gotta wonder if there was more collaboration at play than the credits always suggest. It’s hard for me to imagine singers performing songs they didn’t have a hand in writing with the same passion the guys in The Band did. This song is one of those enigmas to me.

@@Benesat Yeah, that same thing has occurred to me with several bands. The Who comes to mind, with Roger Daltrey singing those songs with a conviction that would make you think that they were his. But Pete is the undisputed author of the words that Roger sang. Maybe Pete was making a comment about that very thing when he wrote, "It's the singer, not the song that makes the music move along I want you to join together with the band."
