I would much rather see a Davis, Mervis, Canario, Parades, and Madrigal traded for Logan O’Hoppe. Then we can trade Nico along with some prospects to Seattle for Logan Gilbert or George Kirby then promote Matt Shaw and James Triantos to fill those spots
Hoerner to the Angels doesn't make sense because they aren't really contenders, what's the incentive to trade for a complementary piece with only 2 more years of control? I think the best fit would have been Hoerner (and maybe even expanded to include Bellinger or some other piece) to Seattle at last year's deadline for a deal centered around catching prospect Harry Ford.
Yeah, but Nico is still young and it’s not a big contract, so that’s why I think they would be interested. I just think Seattle won’t want to give us the guys that we want (ie: all their starting pitchers)
I’m really not one for trading people when their value is low, but also I think shaw kind of needs to prove himself at major league level before trading a player who has gold defense and way above average stats in a lot of offensive categories (high contact rate for instance) who’s coming off an injury.
While in many ways I like baseballtradevalues, I think they put too much on what a guy is going to be paid in their valuation of players. I mean, they say the Cubs could get Vald Jr and Gausman for Wesneski and Brandon Birdsell. A trade I think that could be interesting is Nico to Seattle for C Harry Ford. BTV would have the Cubs up 2 in the trade, but Seattle really needs the upgrade at 2B and the Cubs could add in Pablo Aliendo if needed to make things even.
I want Cubs to trade prospects for A’s Shea Langeliers rather than O’Hoppe, if anyone wants to win now. OR don’t complain they lose while developing young talents!
Hey Kyle, love this idea. You should have a segment on every Wednesday. Call it "Wishful Wednesday's". The thought is your followers send you emails, video, or audio clips of their trade ideas. You would have to sift through all of them and pick the ones you like to build upon or breakdown. I think it would be fun for the followers to be as engaged Into the podcast, which I know push for us to interact with what you put out there! Just my thoughts. I like Hoppe but If I were going to give up multiple prospects, I wanna see what a Langiliers from OAK would look like....I'd be OK to swap Amaya with them as well and give them a top 100 plus some of those "high upside" guys to OAK. Then we sign a 1 yr deal for a backup C, bring up Ballesteros when Horton gets his cup of coffee and then we roll with those 3 guys between catching and maybe DH'ing.
They say Busch can play 2B. They also said Morel could play 3B. Remember when they were saying Morel is a utility guy? hah. What does "can play x position" even mean? You can put a guy anywhere on the field, any professional baseball player knows how all the positions work, they all "can" play the positions, if they suck at the position though what is the point of even saying it? They "can" but they shouldnt.
The difference here is that Michael Busch proved to us that he can become an exceptional fielder at a new position with some serious effort. Morel, despite the effort, still struggled
Too many proposed Cubs trades offer quantity to compensate for the lack of quality: three or four mediocre values for a single quality player. A trade partner would be unlikely to be interested.
They tried to trade for O’Hoppe during the season and the Angels said no…the Cubs asked multiple times and were shot down each time. I’m not sure trading a guy who just had arm surgery would sweeten the pot.
He's going to be a fantastic hitter. The reviews are still fairly skeptical if he can be a MLB catcher(didn't go very well at AAA this year). We already have that problem with Amaya, and dudes stealing bases all over him and additional errors behind the plate.
Be really careful when you say Triantos, Shaw can replace Nico! Even PCA took almost a year to finally show some potential. I would not raise my expectations and later blaming Cubs and Jed.
Cubs have to make trades!!! Let’s just trade anybody!! Anybody at all! If any of the guys waiting in triple A were as good as Nico everyone would be ecstatic, so why trade Nico? Oh I forgot because they have to trade someone, just for the sake of making a trade. How idiotic
👆 is happy winning 80 games again 😂. The AAA guys are both better hitters, and will be at the MLB level. Nico's batting ceiling was 2023. Might the Cubs suffer slightly in the field at 2B? Ya. But at this point it's much more important to 1) add impact bats 2) trim some salary by getting value back in trades at other critical roles while making space to buy another impact bat or elite reliever.
Would you do this trade? What other trades would you like to see the Cubs explore this offseason?
Hi Kyle. How about Nico going to the Dodgers for two prospects. Catcher Dalton Rushing and I want Jackson Ferris back!
Nico to Seattle for either Woo or Gilbert. I’d even add 2-3 prospects if it brings back Raleigh too
Do NOT trade horner. Too dependable.
Nicky Barrels won't be on the team anyway. He's for sure gonna be non tendered
I just really don’t see the Mariners parting with those guys

@@michaelplowman8674 I agree. The overall value can get looked over due to the Surplus being the main metric.
I want Cubs to trade prospects for A’s Shea Langeliers rather than O’Hoppe, if anyone wants to win now. OR don’t complain they lose while developing young talents!
Agree with you SHEA WOULD BE A HUGE ADD.
I would like a blockbuster with the A's for both Brent Rooker and Langeliers.
@@kevinkucera5338 actually Shea & Miller 😂
I wouldn’t be O’Hoppe about trading Cam Sanders along with Nico. No deal.
Only guys I wanna see go is Belli, Suzuki, and Paredes. Beef up pitching and we are contenders. Wish they would have got Matt Chapman for 3rd.

I really like that idea! Thanks Shawn!
Shawn, I'm gonna offer this up this week. Thanks for the idea!

I love Nico, but I LOVE this trade. I have liked what I have seen in O'Hoppe!

Nico is a cheap 3.5-5 win player. His value transcends his unsexy triple crown stats. You better get a great return back if you ship him.
was just thinking about trade proposals for a nico trade and looked at the Angels and mariners since they don't 2B
Mariners were on my list too. I just think they want to win so they wouldn’t want to give away the guys that we want
I dont want either one...the defense isnt great on either...though Langiliers was supposed to be a defensive beast.
They tried to trade for O’Hoppe during the season and the Angels said no…the Cubs asked multiple times and were shot down each time. I’m not sure trading a guy who just had arm surgery would sweeten the pot.
What sources have said that? I knew of rumors, but nothing definitive
@ It was in MLB trade rumors section on baseball-reference around the end of the trade deadline in July.
Bring up the Cubs minor league catcher whose knocking the leather off the ball. Nico is great.
Ballesteros is gonna be legit
He's going to be a fantastic hitter. The reviews are still fairly skeptical if he can be a MLB catcher(didn't go very well at AAA this year). We already have that problem with Amaya, and dudes stealing bases all over him and additional errors behind the plate.
@TheLearningCatalystCoach Omaya is good, let the kid DH and back up
@@denisdewolf3236 sorry, Amaya was rated in the bottom 10 in the league defensively.
probably not happening for nico if it's a NUMBER 1 catcher. Don't know the guy. Would probably take hoerner + Cassie or hoerner + Horton.
Be really careful when you say Triantos, Shaw can replace Nico! Even PCA took almost a year to finally show some potential. I would not raise my expectations and later blaming Cubs and Jed.
When I say “replace”, I simply mean positional. Not value
NO
O'Hoppe or Cal Raleigh. They want some top young hitters. Alcantara, Canario, Hoerner, Lets make a deal.
White Sox need a second baseman Hoerner for crochet
I was shocked when Crochet didn't get traded at the deadline
Hoerner
Pirates trade no thank you!!!
i would rather trade busch and paredes than trade nico
Paredes, yes. Interesting about Busch. Why’s that?
However should have never been moved out of #2 spot
Happ has had time at second. Another option.
He's pretty much locked into left field at this point in his career.

@ who led the cubs in hits this year?
The way you pause, and swallow sends me into oblivion. You're blocked buddy.
Ethan Salas!
I wish!
Ohtani and Betts... make it happen. Lol
How bout Wisdom and Mastro. Straight up! 😂
@SetupManCubs we might get Ohtani and Betts baseball cards!
Nico has no value when he just had surgery
There might be question marks, but not very serious ones. He will be fine and still a potential valuable trade piece
@ might not even be ready for the start of the season…
