That may genuinely be the worse source I’ve ever heard. AJ Preller literally learned Japanese to scout in that country and even mentioned scouting Roki at Peter Seidler’s eulogy. There is also pictures of Roki and Andrew Friedman when he was in high school.
As I started watching this a few minutes ago, I had the same thought...didn't he basically tell seiya that the Cubs org was pretty great to and for him? I think that's a huge upside for us
Not all NPB teams play indoors, but Japan certainly has a much milder climate than the United States (aside from Hokkaido in the north). I would love to see the Cubs sign him, but I am worried that the Dodgers will end up landing him which will completely suck!
More like imanaga vs sasaki jk it’ll be imanaga vs Yamamoto game 1 and roki will pitch game 2 for the dodgers. It’s already been decided the back door deal is real. If you don’t believe just wait
The question is, does Sasaki want to be 6th banana to Ohtani, Yamamoto, Kershaw, Freeman, and Betts (7th if they get Soto, which should not be allowed), or does he want to be co-aces with Imanaga and have Suzuki by his side, forming a three-headed Japanese monster covering position players and pitchers? In short, does he want to be Batman or Robin? Does he want to carve his own destiny to glory or just be a passenger along for the ride?
In any trade the Cubs might make, they can acquire international pool money from other teams in $250K increments (up to 60% of that teams' slotted amount).
I've spent about the equal amount of time in Los Angeles and Chicago and I love both cities. I'm a Cubs fan not a Dodgers fan and there's no question about it.
Cubs should sign free agent catcher Kyle Higashioka and when you give your sales pitch to Roki Sasaki, have messages from Seiya Suzuki, Shota Imanaga, and catcher Kyle Higashioka. Sasaki is known as the "Monster of the Reiwa Era". Let him know about Chicago's "MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY" image and market him as the NEW Monster of the Midway.
To be honest. I totally didnt expect the Cubs to land Imanaga and it was one of the best acquisitions of last year.. I dont want to get my hopes high but ive been saying get Sasaki since last year when he wasnt even thought to be posted.
I will do a happy little jig all around my house if the cubs sign Sasaki id be running to give them my money for a jersey he is so insanely good and promising
I hope he comes to the cubs but he’d be crazy not to go to LA. He will play for a championship and become a free agent in a town that may actually pay him unlike Chicago. Not to mention the weather.
JED almost blew the imanaga signing last year and you think we got a 50 percent chance of signing this guy ? It's the dodgers. It's always been the dodgers and always will be the dodgers until Rickets grows a pair and stops trying to make a huge profit in baseball
I don't think the Cubs have much of a chance. The only thing they could really do to persuade him is with more money. But they can't do that. He will be a Padre or Dodger.
Last time I checked, the record for more strikeouts by 1 s/same pitcher (Starter) is 10 consecutives TO start the game is 9 Pablo Lopez did it fairly recently If Cubs DO get Yamamoto, on top of all the major Huuuge bucks Teams, I might have to retract from all the criticism pointed at Hoyer. 🙏
I mean having Freddie, Mookie, Shohei, and Teoscar HELPED Dodgers stadium have a lot of HRs hit there. Wrigley would have more HRs hit there too if they had Shohei hitting there for 81 games a year.
I don’t know Rob, but what you mentioned regarding last year’s neglect for posting him from his Japan team, is like a red sign. Why not waiting that one and a half year, for lots more money, like you said?
Getting this guy who throws a hundo and is not, at least now, going to require 40 million a year. It's a matter of does he want to play in chicago with two other Japanese stars on the Cubs. That would free up money to get a hitter. I would still get Trevor Bauer. Another guy who throws 98 and is also willing to play for league minimum. Or get Fried, and a closer, along with Sazaki. Imagine adding two aces to the staff. I would still ensure Shaw is on the team in the Spring. And the Catcher at AAA. Cheap talent is better. I don't see the need in signing Jansen but if Travis comes with Fried, we will take him. fingers crossed on this dude. I know our GM is limited with what Rickett's tells him he can spend budget wise, which again makes it imperative to get Bauer and Shaw on the roster in the Spring. Oh, and the taxes in Chicago are cheaper than in LA.
75 percent chance. Wrigley is a factor. Wind blowing in. Food. He can get a bigger contract down the road too if the Cubs have money to spend in 2 years or 3. And they may indeed.
Cubs should pursue A. Santander before a pitcher. They need power in right and on first or at DH if not all three. Always remember what Joe Morgan said, a hitter helps you every game, not just every fifth game.
Dude. He wants to win. Besides the Cubs one World Series in 100 years... when have they been good? They're dubbed " The Loveable Losers" for a reason. He's not going there. 30 OUT OF 30 GM's believe he's going to LAD!
So Jed will at least make an obligatory run at this guy because he's cheap, Rumors have it that he wanted to play with Shohei and Yamamoto last year but his team in Japan would not post him, so I think the odds are low he winds up in Chicago.
The cubs have just under a million dollars more in Int'l FA money than the Dodgers when it resets. Its something think 6.1mil for the cubs and 5.7mil for the Dodgers.
This may not bear any weight on a decision from this player but is the Japanese community in Chicago as large as it may be in L.A. ? Making him more comfortable playing in the U.S. Also would the weather factor in .
If he's looking for a track record of player development, the Cubs are out. The Cubs best players stagnate at best and usually regress into oblivion. Heyward, Bryant, Javy, to some extent Hendricks all shells of what they could have been. Players like Happ and Nico who have been consistently nice players but never capable of achieving what they could have become. Imports like Bellinger and Dansby both not progressing or even maintaining. The list goes on and on. The Cubs player development, and their athletic trainers who are supposed to keep them fit and healthy are terrible.
I don't think the endorsement angle is like it was 20 years ago when being in NY or LA was truly an advantage. All you need now is a good phone, laptop with editing software, and the want to and you have the chance.
Japanese companies already have endorsements in place with the dodgers because of Shohei. The marketing and endorsement he would get if he signs with the dodgers vs say the cubs will not be the same. The entire country of Japan are literally dodgers fans. I’m sure Sasaki is aware.
@@KCiAzN I see you point and still maintain mine. As you stated, it would be a Dodger advantage and not an LA advantage since the relationship is with the team. My point was about the cities not having the advantage like they did so long ago. I firmly believe the only reason Ohtani signed with the Angels was because the NL didn't have the DH when he got here.
If the Cubs land Roki & keep him, they would have a solid 3rd starter. Ricketts & Jed have to get creative with financing and have to try and get Soto .
Chicago is too cold and Japanese likes to be in California. So, I say he will go to the Dodgers. Also Tom is too cheap. And I am sure Shota is very unhappy with the Cubs result of missing out on the playoff. I bet he regrets signing with the Cubs now
Look at the ranking of snowiest cities in the world. Ohtani, Kikuchi, and Sasaki are from IWATE Prefecture which is in northeast Japan (aka TOHOKU region) and is very cold in winter time.
@@yo2trader539 Have you been to California and Chicago? Have you seen what each city can provide and offer? Chicago and what LA or SF can offer is night and day for asian people in America. 1st of all you do not get stares like in Chicago( even it is a metropolitan). 2nd is that you get sunny days all year around. The interesting thing about Sasaki being close with Yu, when Seiya was making his choice, it was Yu that steered him toward the Cubs.

Excited to listen to more pitching
Thanks so much! Did you watch the Steele interview?
His signing would check so many boxes. His age, the stuff, all of it.

That would be the perfect matchup in Japan Susaki faces Yamamoto to open the season what better storyline to open the season.

He wants to be in the more stable organization and in a better city for Japanese players. That’s LA.
You're thinking like an American. You have no idea of the culture of Japanese players. He idolizes Ohtani.
Boom
