Glad to have found your channel, you're straight to the point and record the bow hand from various perspectives. Perfect for beginners without a teacher :)
I can't thank you enough for your instruction videos! For the littles, when would be the good transition time for the thumb in the between? Currently, my child is instructed to place the thumb under the frog due to age (turned 5).
Thanks TJ! I’d definitely default to your teacher on this one. They likely have a system for this. Many great teachers teach with the thumb on the outside of the frog however when I was teaching littles, I liked to start them with the thumb in between from the very beginning. It takes more time initially but I felt that it was better in the long run. I feel like having the thumb on the outside encourages a bit of over squeezing with the thumb and makes pronation more awkward. My advice would be to bring it up with your teacher and in the meantime, focus on making sure that thumb is very passive while on the outside. 👍
@@priceviolinacademy thanks for your thoughtful feedback! You are correct, initially when my child started it seemed to be just fine but recently as hand coordination is getting a little better, recently started to notice that the thumb sticking out forward (which perhaps leads to more tension..?) I am not a string player, and been trying to find the best possible options for littles especially at home. Truly appreciate your instruction videos available!!
