I'm an old white gal addicted to love songs and this by far is the greatest EVER. I was 16 when Motown hit the scene and being a Michigander I supported it by buying all the records and albums of these phenomenal artist. When Smokey sings this song you can hear and feel his raw passion it used to pull the backbone straight out my body. At age 24 I got pregnant with my second son listening to this with my husband. Thanks Smokey for helping me along with that LOL. Old Motown Forever. R.I.P. Replacement Isn't Possible. Ever.
Michigander here too, Westland/Brighton in the 70s just a lil younger and I loved Motown !! Skating rinks were always playing some Motown hits!! Good times!!
Oh the world of Motown!!! You could spend forever exploring this music. Fantastic singers. Wonderful songs. I’m over 65 and can still sing along to most any of these songs. Mercy mercy mercy.
@@pedal4ever Lol. I was raised in the Arkansas delta. It's a crossroads for all types of great music...and my parents were huge Motown fans, so we were raised right.
My wife and I just saw Smokey on Saturday night at The Borgata. He is 79 years old and still sounds exactly like that.He looks and moves like he's 40. He sang for over 2 hours, unbelievable.!
Thank God we still have some real gems recorded live from back in the day. Thank God for whoever preserves these recordings. There is NOTHING like Smokey Robinson's voice. He's a one-of-a-kind!
Such class! It’s thrilling. Smokey throwing down! And those background singers! How I miss this era. I’m so glad you got to hear Smokey and the Miracles and all your listeners did, too.
This is one of my all time favourite Smokey and Motown songs. He still has it today, have heard him sing great versions including jamming with Daryl Hall & our Aussie's Human Nature. He had so many hits including Being With You, Tears of A Clown, Tracks Of My Tears.
Yes, Smokey was and is a soft-spoken man. His singing voice is high tenor but he lived in the falsetto range and for 2 decades may have been the most popular falsetto voice selling pop records world-wide. There's only one "Smokey". And he wrote most of his own material as well as bonafide hits for others. Charted a library of hit records all while being a record executive VP at Motown.
One of the great if not the greatest pop song writers of our generation. Mr. Smokey Robinson. Still alive, still kickin'. That beautiful voice is still there. Happy New Year Mr. Miracle. And check out how smooth the background singers with their movements are. Classic. I saw these guys an unbelievable 5 times back in the day. Twice with his then wife on stage with them. Unforgettable, respectful love songs.
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" was based on "Bring It On Home To Me" Check it out live!: ruclips.net/video/idaq6lY6mwg/видео.html
I've analyzed this video many times. You did it no justice in my opinion. This performance is the epitome of cool. From lead singer Smokey Robinson, to his background singers Bobby, Ronnie and Pete, nothing but class you see here. From their smooth hand movement and subtle steps. I bet you didn't even notice Smokey undoing his tie between his verse and chorus. They just don't make music like this anymore. Neither do they perform this way either. Showmanship! Let alone singing the song slightly different than the album version. The one thing I haven't discovered about this performance is whether this is the one Smokey talked about when Ray Charles did the sheet music for the band to play at the Apollo Theater. You clearly hear a different orchestral take from the musicians that played. This is beyond a classic! This is life represented by an artist who took advantage of the time when wonderfully written songs about love were appreciated! Peace my Brother! Don't play around with Smokey! He is SPECIAL!
Linda Ronstadt did a geat cover version of this song, as well as of Smokey's "Tracks of My Tears." ... I also recommend some of Linda's other hits: "You're No Good," "Blue Bayou," "When Will I Be Loved?", and "I Don't Know Much," a duet with Aaron Neville.
1965. Come on Smoke!!!! Those were the days. " I'm just about at the end of my rope, but I can't stop trying, I can't give up hope". Oh MY My. He was quite an Amazing writer.
Seeing your Righteous Brothers and Smokey Robinson videos reminds me how lucky I ws to be born in 1967 and to have been able to seen the MoTown acts on TV when I was 3 and 4. I was "there" in such a pivotal time and too young to know it until much later. There were at least as many people conceived to Smokey Robinson as Steve Perry. On a different track, have you heard "Tracks of My Tears" or "Tears of a Clown"?
When I was younger...a very long time ago... Smokey was dancing music. We always danced to his tunes. Thise moments are etched into my memory. He was bad assed good!
Tracks of My Tears, do it, you know you want to. His voice had matured by then. He used to come back to Lancaster SC ( where he was from ) and put on free shows at Spring's Park. I was lucky enough to see a few, even though I was a kid.
Have you wondered why the backups never moved much? Back then the TV censors, and most older adults, thought that too much body movement was vulgar. So, musicians used synchronized hand movements and steps to add to the performance. This brings back a lot of memories of first crushes! Love Smokey!
This is Smokey Robinson and the Miracles before he went solo. But that doesn't change the fact that he has an amazing voice!!! He puts ya in the mood!!! I hope that you have a wonderful and blessed day my friend!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂 🐧🐧
I am not a patreon, but I do have a suggestion I believe you would appreciate. Have you ever listened to The Moody Blues? They intended for the entire album to be listened to because all of the songs built upon each other. I know you prefer to listen to live performances but trust me. you want to listen to the studio version. They combined poetry, rock, and a full orchestra, and mellatron to take you away on a cosmic journey.. If you want a single song to listen to, try Nights in White Satin. You owe it to yourself to listen to the entire albums "Days of Future Passed" and "In Search of the Lost Chord." If you listen to the entire albums you probably should listen on a Tuuuuuuuesday aaaaaaafternoon
That was one of my favorite songs back then. Smokey wrote that and many of the songs sung by Motown artists. He and Stevie Wonder were songwriter/performer GENIUSES, As was Marvin Gaye. Not sure if I care for what I perceive as disrespect for their talent (thought it was a girl singing???)
I grew up in Detroit near Motown Records.. damn, those were great performers.. Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye... The Miracles... damn.. brings back many memories.. Barry Gordy was a master of music!
You are watching a Legend My Friend. He holds the distinction of having Hit Records in every Single Decade from the 1950's and now along with The Isley Brothers & Paul Anka. He wrote Hits for The Temptations Marvelettes, Mary Wells, & Marvin Gaye. HIs Songs have been covered from a veritable Who's Who in Music. The Beatles Rolling Stones, Linda Rondstadt, UB40 and Kim Carnes not to mention En Vogue and The Jackson Five. HIs Songs have been featured in Movies like The Big Chill, Platoon, My Girl, Heaven Help Us aka Catholic Boys. and Sister Act where "My Guy" was Parodied as My God as well as Catholic Boy aka Heaven Help Us. His Songs were also featured on TV Shows like The Wonder Years & China Beach. His Songs have also been used to sell everything from Coats, Toothbrushes, and Raisins. and ,also have a whole new generation of Fans most notably in the UK since "Who's Loving You" is now the most popular Audition Song on The X Factor UK where Simon Cowell is one of the Judges.
I’m a Motown Girl. Can’t you tell? Smokey is amazing! I don’t think Motown would have been the great success that it was if not for Smokey, a sweet gifted humble man who I had the pleasure of meeting.
FROM THAT LONG AGO SPRING OF 1965--------------THIS IS MY ALL-TIME #1 SONG-----------EVER ! -----------THE GROUP WAS CALLED THEN, " THE MIRACLES " ------------WILLIAM FRANKLIN ROBINSON JR , AKA, " SMOKEY " ------------BOBBY RODGERS, RINNIE WHITE, & PETE MOORE. 1ST TIME I HEARD THIS, I WAS IN TEARS. IT STILL GETS ME TODAY. I HAVE MY ORIGINAL 45. -----I WAS 18 Y/O, & I JUST KNEW I WOULD ALWAYS BE YOUNG, HANDSOME, & INVINCIBLE. --------MJL, 75 Y/O
Reminds me of that old commercial selling the "Oldies" and they said "and my Dad yelled from downstairs Turn that music Down and I said But Dad, it's SmmmO-Key!!!"
Smokey is AWESOME. I used to listen to him all the time. Got picked on, too, because I'm white. I love OLD Motown. I was born in '70. I remember Soul Train. My parents would get pissed on Saturday, I love all types of music.
If you haven't done Land of a Thousand Dances, please do. Its one of my very favorite dance songs and I have actually introduced it to DJ's and people love it. I used to work at a Bar called Jukebox Saturday Night and I always took my break when they played it. Its an older song 60's I think. People don't dance enough anymore. We need a lot more dancing. People are so uptight lol They should a lot of this music on the radio today, it might cheer people up.
Smokey, along with so many others, made Motown what they became, which was nothing short a hit making machine...You've got to study up on the whole thing, my man..Amazing story!
What a singer-songwriter. And what a group. Timeless music.

Aunt Kitty Hashtag I’m a Michigander too. Born and raised in Detroit. A teen in the 60’s. Smokey was the best.
Michigander here too, Westland/Brighton in the 70s just a lil younger and I loved Motown !! Skating rinks were always playing some Motown hits!! Good times!!

Dont forget Cruisin!
My favorites, 'More Love' and 'You Really Got a Hold on Me'

NO, those are ALL *MIRACLES* songs. Smokey did not record them by HIMSELF.
Oh the world of Motown!!! You could spend forever exploring this music. Fantastic singers. Wonderful songs. I’m over 65 and can still sing along to most any of these songs. Mercy mercy mercy.
THIS is a CLASSIC!!! Love me some SMOKEY 😌☺... MUSIC these days DON'T come close to this QUALITY
Makki Sligar Amen to that.
Smokey was a musical genius...song writer, singer, producer. My very favorite out of Mo-Town!
Jimmy Ruffin 'What Becomes of the Brokenhearted'. A great classic Motown song
@@pedal4ever Lol. I was raised in the Arkansas delta. It's a crossroads for all types of great music...and my parents were huge Motown fans, so we were raised right.
Another favorite of mine!

These guys were smooth back then. I'm old school.
one of my favorite groups from the Motown era. Love Smokey Robinson!

Such class! It’s thrilling. Smokey throwing down! And those background singers! How I miss this era. I’m so glad you got to hear Smokey and the Miracles and all your listeners did, too.
Wow, never seen this performance before. Smokey looks so young. Imagine what his life was like back then, just starting out.
I was thinking the same thing!!!
This is one of my all time favourite Smokey and Motown songs. He still has it today, have heard him sing great versions including jamming with Daryl Hall & our Aussie's Human Nature. He had so many hits including Being With You, Tears of A Clown, Tracks Of My Tears.

I still say Sam Cooke 'Bring It On Home To Me'
ARredneckgirl 24 that song is amazing!!
And after that, "A Change is Gonna Come."
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" was based on "Bring It On Home To Me" Check it out live!: ruclips.net/video/idaq6lY6mwg/видео.html
I was so lucky to see him in Vegas in the early 70's. What a show man. Love his voice!!
I so loved this group! This made me cry!! Thank you so much, awesome!

Love, love, love Smokey. He wrote "You Really Got A Hold on Me" and the Beatles made it a huuuuuuuge hit.
Uh it was a million selling song with smokey
Definitely Smoky did it better, and thats coming from a huge Beatles fan!❤❤❤@@qwertymanor
This song tugged at the heart strings of all teenage girls. We will always love SMOKEY.

A young Smokey! Can't go wrong with his voice & music.
this was required at any basement dance party in the 6os.You can't slow dance to the beatles.Smokey had that covered with all of his songs.
Seeing your Righteous Brothers and Smokey Robinson videos reminds me how lucky I ws to be born in 1967 and to have been able to seen the MoTown acts on TV when I was 3 and 4. I was "there" in such a pivotal time and too young to know it until much later.

Try Little Anthony and The Imperials. Tears on my pillow.
You can't go wrong with Motown. How about reacting to "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops or "Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes?
I love Smokey's distinctive voice. Another great song he did with the Miracles is "On The OutSide Looking In".
When I was younger...a very long time ago... Smokey was dancing music. We always danced to his tunes. Thise moments are etched into my memory. He was bad assed good!
Smokey! Please also listen to Mary Wells, The One Who Really Loves You.
One of my all time favorites !
Also love more love !
Smokey was really young here, He went on to do duet Linda Ronstadt, I believe same song. He is smooth
Smokey is a legend. Pure awesomeness!!!!
This always brings to mind The Five Stairsteps "Ooh Child"
Tracks of My Tears, do it, you know you want to. His voice had matured by then. He used to come back to Lancaster SC ( where he was from ) and put on free shows at Spring's Park. I was lucky enough to see a few, even though I was a kid.
Smokey. One of the most badass ever....and one of the most talented.
Absolutely love this song one of the all time greats boy this man can sing 🎤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
no head scratch? C'mon Renaissance Man, that was worth at least one head scratch from you. I'm disappointed.
Lol
Smokey is smoother than butter!!! 💜🎶💜🎶💜
This is definitely recorded LIVE. Blue-eyed Smokey is still going strong.
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles were the sound track to my teen years!

It didn’t stop groups like the Temptations throwing shapes on stage .
TEARS OF A CLOWN. if I could, I would listen to it every single days.
also every double day
if you are strong, try linda Ronstadt and smokey doing baby baby, but take a pill first

Listening to Smoky absolutely melted the girls.
Their obviously singing live. They were Motown’s biggest group. Megastars! Love ❤️

Check out “Cruisin” & “Being with you.” Both by Smokey.
Linda Rondstadt covered this song too. Did a really good job!
How cool are The Miracles in the background there.
My mom loved Smokey Robinson and the Miracles...it's how I got into them.
Smokey Robinson wrote something like half of the songs released by Motown
Smokey, along with so many others, made Motown what they became, which was nothing short a hit making machine...You've got to study up on the whole thing, my man..Amazing story!
Really gonna miss you goes right along with the movie. It reminds me of my buddy who overdosed many years ago.
Love him to pieces.
Smokey is one smooth cat!
