God, what a beautiful song. My favorite from John. It has me crying after all these years. Losing my mom 25 yrs ago. This was her absolute favorite. Miss you mom, so much.
Thanks so much for reacting to this awesome song. This was on the first JD album I bought, back in 1975 or so, and it was always one of my favorites. I learned to play it on the guitar, and to sing it for my girlfriends, and it still gets to me all these years later.
John Denver was a singer-songwriter & actor. He had so many great hits in the 70's-80's. You've done quite a few already. Some of his other songs were "Annie's Song", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Grandma's Feather Bed" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns.
This hauntingly beautiful song as well as "Sunshine on My Shoulders" were used in a movie entitled Sunshine. It was based on a real-life love story of a very young mother that was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at the young age of 18 just after the birth of her first daughter and dying at age 20. Again, "Sunshine on My Shoulders", and "My Sweet Lady" were used in this biographical film.

Please react to "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (which is the title song of that album) and a live version is better than the studio but it's a great song regardless and it's my favorite along with "Follow Me!" I went to the cinema to see this when it came out, so beautiful. I searched for so long to get a dvd finally did from Australia.
