Wonder Boy suddenly realized he wouldn’t run out of energy if he stopped running in place all the time. It took Master Higgins a lot longer to figure that out.
This has got to be the most cryptic game ever. I wonder how long it took for someone to actually pass it with all it's hidden paths. I played it blindly and got stuck on like the 5 stage, I was like: WTF am I suppose to do?
The only thing I kind of miss about this game is the crazy wiggling of the joystick in the actual arcade machine. I am still unsure if it's the wiggling or just hitting the sword button at the right time that causes larger coins to appear but back then this game was eating all my money so it didn't matter... Wiggle like crazy and hope for the best!
I played this for years as a kid and never knew how little I didn't know until I watched this video. All the little tricks to earn so much money... gobsmacked.
I remember as a kid watching the other kids playing before me while waiting at the arcade machine. Somebody else always new more about the game and that was the way we learned new tricks.
I watched the whole thing...you're the man! As a kid/teenager it was difficult for me to get through the troll boss and I also never got passed the knight boss
damn, that was one of my earliest childhood memories - I remember first three levels and the end - but nothing in between. probably did the start myself and watched someone else do the finale 😬
Holy shit just spent hours looking for this game. Had the vagest memory of some side scroller i played on a windows 98 pc with some rpg elements and a kid main character
I've been playing this via the XBOX Live release. It was much easier on the SMS, tuned for home play--as I recall. Man is this a brutal coin-op game. Thankfully, the XBLA version has save states.
Well, instead of the ruby you are supposed to grab the bell and it rings when you take the correct way, but then again you have to know that beforehand... I eventually memorized the correct path by watching other kids do it and from that point on, only took the ruby.
The Sega Master system version is a lot better than this arcade version. For one when you use the potion it revives all of your hearts. Bosses and enemies are easier to kill. The levels are cut down and done a lot better. Graphics for the giant heart looks a lot better. You knock on doors instead of just entering. The status screen is better when you pause and when you play. It just looks better and sharper.
The North American release is beautifully translated, but it has one error: "I feel becoming lighter." - It should really read as "I feel my feet becoming lighter." I have the game on PSN, along with the other two.
I could not get past the Goblin back then (the mushroom - 2nd boss). Sometimes some other kid watching me would help me get passed it and then I would get stuck again and die in the Ice Kong fight.
Yeah always seemed inconsistent. On the actual arcade, wiggling the joystick really fast as you passed the trigger for the coin did the trick most of the time. In mame I can also do it by pressing jump and attack at the exact frame the coin triggers ...sometimes 😞. Still don't know the actual cause though... Too many inputs at the same time with the coin maybe?
+Bojan Veličkov The Bell is ringing everytime you take the correct turn in the labyrinth so that you will know you are in the correct direction. If you do not know the way...its VITAL :)
It's not the normal rom. You take too much money, usually it's not like that. And you have to kill boss for passing the stage O_o. You just pass the mushroom boss who is really anoying
Back in the day when I played this on the local arcade the Goblin (mushroom boss) was not optional. It was considered the noob filter as most kids like me couldn't beat it and advance the game. The only difference I remember from this playthrough was that the small mushrooms took 2 hits to die instead of 1. Amount of gold was the same.
This was one of the first arcade adventures that introduced character development, the music takes me back everytime.
Yes. This was the first game where I actually felt like I was going out on an adventure.
Wonder Boy suddenly realized he wouldn’t run out of energy if he stopped running in place all the time. It took Master Higgins a lot longer to figure that out.
You need to shake the joystick left to right consistently to get between 65 - 68 golds. :)
Ahh thanks. I didn't know that.
Yes. And apparantly there are some other tricks that works as well.
I like the music at the end.
Never managed to complete it, one of the hardest games ever but really well done

Loved this arcade game, was the only one I could finish on one coin....ahh the memories thanks for sharing
Listing to the music and gameplay take me back instantly to Baby Giant in 1st Ward, Houston, Texas.
Man the Master system memories love it
Great game. I remember wiggling the hell out of the joystick for maximum coinage. Fun times

@@DosmodYes. Me too. I learned to wiggle the joystick to get more cash from some older kids.
what a twist, it turned out the dragon was actually a robot from space!
The vampire is pretty weird looking too. Is he taking on the form of a pink devil, or just wearing some crazy leotard?
Well, the game says "He may come from star". So we can't be sure.
35:16 Congrats, you acquired the Queergown
Well... it took me 3 years but I finally see what you did there!
First Boss he slays is....Death himself!
Wonder Boy confirmed for the most badass protagonist ever!
Absolutely! I remember this game was a major joystick-breaker on the arcade cabinets back then...
I watched the whole thing...you're the man! As a kid/teenager it was difficult for me to get through the troll boss and I also never got passed the knight boss
War is over, dragon was robot. Obviously,
damn, that was one of my earliest childhood memories - I remember first three levels and the end - but nothing in between. probably did the start myself and watched someone else do the finale 😬
Nostalgia, man.
I've always loved Mecha Dragon Castle's music, no matter on which system.
First boss is the weakest Reaper in the series.
Conglaruration for reaching the ending!
14:22 what's that pyramid?
It's the rightmost-end of the background that just loaded (the end of that same level). Why does it appear for a frame? Emulation issue? I don't know.
Oh the memories 😿
Holy shit just spent hours looking for this game. Had the vagest memory of some side scroller i played on a windows 98 pc with some rpg elements and a kid main character
We rejoice, but question still not answer.
Who was phone?

Hi. I suscribe your channel. like
Yo era fanático de este jueguito !!!
I wish I had this when I was 10 years old I used to get to the last level every time I played and could not find the way through
Well, instead of the ruby you are supposed to grab the bell and it rings when you take the correct way, but then again you have to know that beforehand... I eventually memorized the correct path by watching other kids do it and from that point on, only took the ruby.
@@Dosmod I guess un lucky for me I was the only kid with this game
I never saw this coin-op in the US. Maybe I should track down the JAMMA board, I haven't fired up my Astro City cabinet in awhile.
Me da mucha gracia como acuchilla todos los enemigos
This translation...ouch. Still fun game.

Fascinating
Which game came out first: this or saiyuki world, they are so similar
It's just not the same without the original music
GG & Thanks for playing ;)

think i reached 10 round...remember the guy coming to collect the coins from the arcade machine used to give me some credits LOL good customer

Never understood what exactly to do to earn 67 or 68 gold... Is it always the same move? Sometime I can but I do not know how😂😂

This, then Bikkuri Man World for PC Engine, then Saiyuuki World for Famicom.
What if u take bell?
+Bojan Veličkov bell tells you right way in the last labyrinth
+Bojan Veličkov The Bell is ringing everytime you take the correct turn in the labyrinth so that you will know you are in the correct direction. If you do not know the way...its VITAL :)
Oh if only it were that easy!
FUCKING ICE KONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
2? this is the 1 im pretty sure
Me too, but I also finished Psychic 5.
Oh! I loved that game! It's still a very good platformer. Betterr than Super Mario Bros., and I'm a Nintendo fan.

I still playing European version and i don't get so much money, for sure !

***** or change direction while jumping real fast
+HenryGoofers hidden coins (with every rom) give you 60+ money if you use tatsumaki or hit a monster before collect them
my best lovely games
"Im loose!" lmao
no puedo pasar el dragon
Amigo ese juego donde lo consigo está en Play store? O q juego lo jugué en mi infancia en arcade

So basically you played off the game bugs and cheated.
