- I've been wanting one of these trucks for a while, but with how ridiculous the market is these days, I simply couldn't justify spending the money people were asking for them, until I finally found this one.
Just got back from a 3,250mi. trip in a Platinum '13 3.5L ECO, 70K mi. 4 adults, 1 toddler in car seat loaded down w/cold weather gear/baby stroller/play pen/ turkey roaster & usual luggage. UnderCover rigid bed cover had to be sat on to close & latch. 195gals. gas/16.6mpg...80 - 85mph in 65hrs driving time over 2wks from NC Texas to Detroit & Erie. All the creature comforts & smooth as butter w/plenty of power.
No fear, or hesitation taking it out on the road in snowy conditions at T'Giving.
I’ve got a 2013 3.5 ecoboost. Pretty good engine, only issues I’ve had was a water pump, valve cover gasket and what I believe is the vacuum pump oil leak that’s leaking onto the turbo. I really enjoy driving it over our old 5.4l. Doesn’t take much throttle input to take off and cruise. We are starting to have the startup rattle happen here and there on cold start but not to bad yet. We have ~165k miles
Would be surprised if you don't have any broken exhaust manifold bolts.
I actually think the 3.5 Eco is more durable than the V8s.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q I disagree, the Coyote 5.0s are really durable judging from how many of my friends have 200K mile or more ones that take real beatings. Haven't seen an Ecoboost do that well around me yet, but they do have some torque.
@@79Jasper042610 I don't believe the ecoboosts have issues with broken exhaust studs. Our old 5.4 did have a broken one.
Maybe, but I've seen several. I'm not saying it's any manufacturer specific.
Good project truck. I went from a 3V to Ecoboost and completely agree with your comments. If you want a good inexpensive long lasting way to restore the black plastic, boiled Linseed oil or better yet Flood Penetrol (drys faster) for oil based paints works outstandingly and doesn't cost much. They're also both really good undercoating that soaks into rust darkens it then hardens. It might make some good content, since there isn't much about it on youtube.
Good purchase for a newer used, 2013 Ford F-150 crew cab pick-up truck with the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine. This one does not have the internal water pump problem, unlike the sedans and the crossovers do.
492,000 miles on my 2011 and it’s still running well. I’ve had very few issues
I have a 2013 just like yours, but with the XLT package and shorter bed. Only 75K miles! 4 inch MPBE cat back, intake, Superchips tuner, Oil catch can and helper bags on the back. Usually tows my 10K enclosed trailer with toys to Glamis or occasional short commutes. Love it! Tows well, but under 8 mpg when towing that big load. 17 driving around...
Best of luck with your new truck! Always enjoy your videos & looking forward to some new posts.
I just bought a 2013 Ecoboost
222k miles.
Hopefully its been well maintained.
So far so good.
Has the cold start rattle but runs and , drives and shifts great!
Thanks for the information
Same here! 2013, 220k miles. Haven’t taken it to a mechanic yet. How’s yours going? What did you pay?
@@VanquishAudio I sold it for 5500 🫤
Eventually, it was going to need some work.
It drove great and had plenty of power.
But my issue was eventually.I needed to do cam fazers and fix some possible leaks.
@@DunnMotors whoa! That was only 2 months! How much did you buy it for? How much would the service cost?
My uncle bought a white 13 Ecoboost after his 2008 Powerstroke, and he had a turbo go out on it.
Also, a person doesn't buy a truck for gas mileage anyway. I like the 3.5 Ecoboost myself personally.
My last 2012 f150 had the 3.5 ecoboost pretty much the same truck as yours, it was a good little engine, years later now I have a 13 f150 regular cab short box 4x4, 5.0 coyote engine and absolutely love it 🍻
The 12th gens are so much better than the 11th gen trucks. The engine bay room alone was a major improvement. My 4.6 3v was relatively easy to work on compared to my buddys 04 f150 with a 5.4, different motors I know but the placement of everything is just horrible on the older trucks. And speaking of 12th gens my 2010 4.6 has 331k miles and still rolling strong, I finally had to do a timing job, and complete front end rebuild on it at 323k miles and it feels good as new.
wow
Thank you for the ecoboost vids @danieljaegerfilms! I am looking to buy a used 2014 f-150 xtr supercrew, with 150k miles for $13,500. Pics looks great on their offerup post. Just hope it is as well maintained as your prior 250k truck vids! Thanks again for giving me the confidence needed with the ecoboost setup!
Congratulations on the new truck. I wish you guys lived close where as I have bed liner I would give you. I replaced mine with a bed mat. Good vid!!
Nice new truck, can’t wait for the new videos coming on this truck. These 3.5L eco boost engines aren’t bad actually, they are pretty reliable of course they have their issues. I agree I also kinda like higher mileage vehicles. If it’s well maintained, it should be fine and sometimes better than the lower mileage vehicles.
Timing chain and phasers going for no reason but miles isnt very reliable
5.4 was a nightmare to work on. I was sold on the 3.5 when Ford did the torture test impressive.
Would like to see an update on this truck! Bought one with a little lower mileage than this for just a bit more money.
Is it still running good?
Might be buying a 2013 FX4 with the 3.5. Upgrading from my '03 F-150 and the difference is pretty insane. Taking it in to the shop for a pre purchase inspection Monday, hoping it's all good
hey how was it? im looking at a 2013 myself
@@dameiondarthard3878 It's been great! Put another 10k miles on it, now at 170k and only things I've had to do are water pump and sparkplugs. Planning on slapping a catch can on soon too
good to see your uploading again! my grandfather has a 2018 ford F150 Lariat package
I bought a top of the line 2011 Ford Flex project in the fall with the 3.5 ecoboost with 190,000 kms (118,750 miles) for $1000. Not much room for your hands to work for some repairs on that! Did the front turbo on it, they thought the motor was shot. (I thought so too) A couple of things I will finish in the summer on it. Hope to get a bunch of videos done on it too. Enjoy your truck! It looks good. I think you did well at that price.
I think the Edges have the 3.5 Duratec not Ecoboost.
@@Bushy556 My Flex has the Ecoboost badge on the back. Maybe the earlier ones did not?
missed your postings!!!!!! welcome back!!!!!!!
I just picked up a '13 F150 4x4 XLT with 134k to replace my totaled '10 Ram Big Horn Hemi 4x4 with 142k. Not ready to commit to buying an expensive new or even recently used replacement, I was looking for something comparable in age and mileage that my insurance settlement might cover a majority of replacement cost.
After several weeks, I narrowed my selections to two trucks, both located at a local used auto dealer. One owner, with impeccable CARFAX & service, a true garage princess.
Test-driving the F150 first, being very surprised with its performance and pristine condition, I didn't need test-drive the other truck I was looking at. Very pleased with this truck, it fits my needs nicely
Can you make the videos on the timing and vacuum pump repair, I have similar issues with my 3.5 and would love to see how to do the work.
Looks like a nice project vehicle Daniel! Good find!🇺🇸
I have an 11 eco-boost 3.5 and has 200,000 miles on it and never had any problems out of it. Just change the plugs and the coils your oil in a good truck.
I recently purchased a 2013 ford f150 super crew 3.5 echo boost, I personally think some ppl hate on it is literally just because of exhaust sound! It’s not a v8 without the v8 rumble! However I’m very expressed with mine! Fuel mileage for a truck so heavy is awesome, an it drives like a car! I’ve owned ram trucks with the hemi, an I actually like the 3.5 better, i currently also own a Nissan Titan with as we all know has a 5.6 liter v8. The ford out preforms the Titan in every way! But I love my titan lol! Anyway just came across your video an wanted to say the echo boost is as tough or in many cases better at towing than any v8! An ford really has done there homework for comfort in a full size truck
I bought my 2013 with 5.0 with 201k miles for 8k at dealership. Mine is absolutely rust and and clean inside makes me glad I bought mine now I think I got a hell of a deal! I’ve looked at the 3.5 and I was to scared of those time chains. I’m told of you get them new and and take care of them you can get them to 200k and above but they all or well most require that timing chain replacement and or cam phasers so I went with 5.0. Other than worse mpg I couldn’t really see any issues with them in forums or any complaints but I also love the v8 sound over the 3.5!
Pretty clean looking truck especially given the miles! Nice score. I enjoy seeing high mileage vehicles as well.
Just bought 2months ago a 2013 5.0 with 116,000 miles seemed like a great example, heard about their reliability. Anyway drove it 800 miles it started misfiring a few days ago. Nothing internally damaged it seems but timing is bad and last owner apparently replaced a head and gaskets off the books and didn’t do it the right way i believe. So every professional opinion I’ve got so far (without taking off the valve cover) says get a new motor buddy, sucks. My luck
While you have the intake off look down at the intake valves. They'll have a ton of carbon buildup on them you'll want to clean off before you put it back together. My experience is they either run forever of spin a rod bearing around 100k. And make sure to change out the pcv, I've seen them where the pcv was clogged and the inside of the engine looked like the oil had never been changed even though it had been.
Beautiful truck! Hope everything goes well with it for you!
GF has a 13 Green Gem 5.0 she got new. No problems anything significant. Unfortunately the early EB had plug issues, didn't have near the MPG advertised and typically had the intercooler issue which could be addressed already.
Great buy! Mine is at 400,000 miles. Bought it brand new. no major repairs. A 2014 model by the way.
With the 3.5L?
@@JaredMatranga yes
In regards to the mpg with the 5.4l to 3.5l our 5.4 got like 14, ecoboost gets 16. Our ecoboost is all boost not much eco. But the power is night and day. 5.4l couldn’t get out of its own way!
First time hearing someone calls a modern V8 slow
@@RohanSanjith 5.4l triton in a pickup is a dog only 300hp and 365tq. My bmw is a 4.8l v8 and makes 365hp and tq. My 13 3.5 ecoboost is 365hp and 420tq. It didn't help the 04 f150 that it had a 4 speed with overdrive if I remember correctly and both of the other cars are 6 speeds.
Nice looking truck for the miles. For sure look like plenty room work on stuff in there kind reminds me old chevy 350 when lot room work on them trucks also. For sure rather have ecoboost over any 3v ford engine that for sure
@5:20 Are you maaaaaaaad? never tell a wife that one truck is enough, neveeeeeeer
Lmbo
Hell of a truck for $6k
What was the long term outcome from drilling the intercooler weep hole? Its like using the the intercooler as a catch can. I was considering doing it but I'd hate compromise anything on my 2011 with the 3.5 EB at 84k miles with any mods. Thank for the content you produce.
Nice truck. Definitely a much better engine than the 5.4 triton. Do you still the excursion?
Hello do you think adding marvel mystery oil to the engine oil on a 2013 ford f150 3.5 eco boost engine to help with engine sludge?
Love my 14 3.5 F-150. 67k on it. Did you stick with the same phasers or get the newest design ones in the newest 3.5?
Do you still have the Excursion?
Exciting series on the way!
its amazing how you can't find anything under 6k unless its got some sort of issue or has 300k
There's one Toyota sequoia available for under 3k, less than 200k miles
In new york
2002 model
@@RohanSanjith neat
@@JimmyDean404 😀
You should try to break a record and showcase an ecoboost that can make 300k miles, it would be impressive!
Thats a lot of miles, but for the price its a good buy!
I just got a 2011 F150 with the 5.0 for $2,500. They are awesome trucks!
How many miles on it?
@@williammunny6061 1,000,000
3rd transmission?
320,000 miles. It needed rear rotors, brake pads, front caliper, front brake hose, cab brake light sealed, and tires. The other things that don't work that I don't care about are 2 tpms sensors and the right rear abs speed sensor. I did get tired of it constantly dinging at me about the tires and brakes, so I'll be fixing them too.
In November of this year, 2022, my wife and I took it on a trip from Northern Michigan to Fraser Colorado and back. And I have proof! Even stopped to see Watch Wes Work to have him check the truck put. (Had him hook up his scanner to find out exactly what was going on with the ABS). Of course, I got a picture with him.
I have a 21 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and I was pleasantly surprised about the power it has. Do you still have that old white excursion?
Hey Daniel 🤝what state do live. I want to hire you to work on my 2013 ecoboost .?
Meh My 6.2L F150 platinum with 200K isn't even broken in
I have a 2007 Ford F-150 with the 4.6 engine with over 400,000 MI what do you think about that engine compared to the EcoBoost
4.6 is far better, the cast iron block lasts better than aluminium ecoboost
You guys own greenhouses ? man you do work for your money
Welcome back
Turbos and direct fuel injection in a truck or any vehicle is not a good sign...... dirty engine and prematurely wears out because of the extra combustion generated for its lack of 2 cylinders in a full size truck ..... by and large the 5.4 3 valve will give you less trouble than this engine on average. I would deffinitley take a 5.4 2 valve engine over and ecoboost engine any day of the week....
I wonder how the turbos are?
I’m looking at one almost that price with only 51,000 miles on it.
Right on man! You lucked out. The used car market has been such a nightmare. I’m honestly shocked he was unable to sell it for well over 10. Maybe it was how he listed it. Probably wasn’t on fb marketplace
How is the tdi holding up?
You may already know this I’m not trying to insult your intelligence but make sure you use only Ford components otherwise it will bite you in the long run if you’re going to keep the truck it’s worth it great video
Is the excursion still around
Hi
I have the same engine and after timing chain and cam phaser, have rough idle in cold
Any help
How much did it cost to fix timing chain and cam phaser? Is it running good yet?
I have a 2013 and in my option just feels like junk. Mine just hit 100k and feels like it’s falling apart.
I agree, twice a year I had to gap the plugs, my rotors constantly warp no matter what rotor I use (with new calipers). I hit 100k and did the timing repair. At 120k a connecting rod cracked and essentially destroyed the engine. Ironically, I bought a 2005 Land Rover LR3 with 210k miles for dirt cheap to drive while I worked on the f150. Well, my Rover now has 250k miles and is one of the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned!
Still got the white excursion
Nice Truck
junk i will keep my 2007 f150 with the 5.4 triton also i just scrapped a 2014 ecoboost had a bad water pump so i sold it to my local junkyard where it belongs
Is there a oil pump upgrade on these like a melling high volume oil pump?
Yes ,M390HV I believe
I just got rid of my 2012 f150 ecoboost. If the timing chain and phasers havnt been done by someone else, get rid of it. Unless your doing it yourself and not gonna pay 6k to do it. Seriously, 2011 and 2012+ are different builds, the phasers suck, timing chain is shit. Good luck.
I dunno I have a 2012 ecoboost and it just flipped 400,000 miles havent touched the tranny or engine
First Gen Eco 3.5
Crazy high price
Lot of miles tho dude
Built ford tough lol. Junk.
The e-coat dip at the rouge plant is joke.
Your comment and license plate are two points to confirm you are a tool.
Not a good engine in my book. Internal water pump driven by the timing chain!
3.5 in longitudinal application does not have the internal water pump.
The internal water pump is on the cars and crossovers only.
Media guy...... Know your facts! The Ecoboost version of the 3.5 is an EXTERNAL water pump!!
MY 2011 lariat crew 5 1/2 bed IS A 5.0 paid 10k with 205,000 miles I wont take a ecoboost sorry. nice truck though
What a waste of money. You brought a problem.
What a poor decision.
Far superior to the 5.4, yet has phaser issues.... LOL
The 5.4 also had major issues with the narrow oil passages getting clogged up. They also had valvetrain issues and issues with timing chain tensioners and chain guides breaking.
The ecoboost has some issues, but far fewer than the 3v 5.4. I'd still prefer a well-maintained 3v 5.4 over any of the modern chevy gas v8 trucks. The new chevy trucks I've seen at work are horrible. I've never seen so many trucks blow engines before 30k miles, some below 5k. Lifters are a serious issue in the newer GM gas engine trucks. The 6.2s also like to crack pistons.
Over paid for an almost 10 year old truck that are trash when new!!!
Fn hater
@jamesdawson6424 😂😂😂 nah I'm just honest
