Apparently 8R is meant for a different purpose than the R7. Naming for one it is not a GSXR. Handle bars are much higher than the ones on R7.
Yeah seems more like a sport touring bike
None of these bikes were meant to be a direct analogue to a GSX-R600, YZF-R6, CBR600RR, or the like. They are all street-biased sports bikes with full plastic. The R7 just happens to be the most radical ergonomics, moreso than the RS660.
The Suzuki would be something to more easily live with on a day to day basis. How long does the average R7 owner spend on the race track compared to the highways and streets? There's your answer. Suzuki did it right. I bet the GSX-8R is going to offer more room for bigger people anyway. R7 is a little cramped in general. I've ridden the R7. I'm 6'2" with 34" inseam, on the tall size of average.

Dont hate on Suzuki, ive owned a Yamaha FZ09 and a Suzuki gsx s1000. Suzuki is super reliable just like yamaha probably even more, and im a Yamaha fan boy. You need to try a suzuki, you havent had one yet.
No hate. The R7 is just more bang for your buck overall and weighs a lot less. You can't go wrong with any of the Japanese motorcycles but the MT line up of bikes is hard to beat.

Hard to say, but for only $240 higher MSRP and all the extra features the Suzuki offers (being designed 9 years newer, essentially), a bit higher power-to-weight ratio, I'd say it's probably a better value in the category. I've taken the 8S on a demo ride earlier this year and it is a VERY good motorcycle. Also took the V-Strom version of it out.

YZF-R7, GSX-8R, RS660, Ninja 650, CBR650R, Ducati Supersport, F900XR are all roughly the same sort of sports motorcycle, without being a full track bike.
The yellow is the better color and looks real nice.
I know the Suzuki is a good bike, I think it’s downfall is it’s ugly, I can’t get past the looks. A bike has to look good to me before I throw a leg over it.

I love the competition between these companies. We're getting so many treats. R7 doesn't compare. R7 has the lack of electronics and you still get the 270 crank sound.
Whether 90° V-twin, or 270° parallels, the sound profile is the same. How many motorcycles exist today that run the 270° configuration parallel? A LOT. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Triumph, BMW, Aprilia, even Royal Enfield. If it weren't for the 285° crank (close enough), KTM would be another one. Other than differences in displacement, general cooling design (RE 650 is air-cooled), the sound signature with all of these is basically identical.
You are right, the bikes dont compare. R7 is a sportsbike. 8R is a sportstourer. R7 is much more fun when you are going fast and 8R is much more comfortable for longer trips.

Looks way more comfortable than the R7 and will probably be a better street bike for 90% of customers.

Suzuki will fit bigger people a little better than the Yamaha. It feels like a real sized motorcycle, rather than compact like the MT-07.
I really think honda has dropped the ball here . A cb750 hornet with a full fairing would be fantastic .

Is the gsx8r suzuki's response to the aprilia rs660? I hope the japanese companies make a rs660 like bike so we can get the looks of the super sport bike but with more comfortable ergos!
Doesnt even come close to comparing to the rs660. The RS has so much more to offer than this pos. Its much more of a sport bike. It has full tech package, fully adjustable suspension, 100+ hp, amazing display, great brakes, its nimble, and is tuned for higher revs while still giving solid power throughout the revs. This is closer to a Tuono and even the Tuono wipes the floor with the 8R. Id rather them make a bike that more sporty rather than just look more sporty.

Chris on Bike World channel ran a drag race between the RS600 and the GSX-8S. The Suzuki gets the torque on the roll-on, and the RS660 comes around it on the top end. Just as I would expect.

when I perform maintenance on my R6, i usually remove left and right fairings in order to clean and inspect everything. i will usually have the fairing off for a few days and I still ride the bike. From Zero to Sixty, I can barely tell the difference the fairings make.
I own a GSX-S1000 '22 model. I really like the design of the 8S and could easily live with one. However, the 8R design really, really appeals to me. I think it looks spectacular. The cleanest, most aesthetic design from Suzuki in ages IMO. So because of the looks, I would probably get the 8R.
Nice bike! The GSX-S1000 is a great bang for your buck bike. This new GSX-8R looks to be a winner too. I love how Suzuki puts nice bottom end grunt on their bikes.
I agree it looks great but the lack of HP will have u wanting ur 1000 back in no time imo, check out the 24 gsx-s1000gx

@@CycleCruza I feel you, great for local riding for sure and fun as hell.. but for me once I hit the interstate/freeway on these bikes I find the low rpm range and lack of hp a little frustrating.. the 8r tops out @130 mph it’ll have you looking for another gear after 6th lol
I really love the design and utility of a relaxed rider triangle sport bike. Suzuki nailed this one, but I have to lament that it would be a much more desireable bike with either the 1050cc Vtwin(new SV1000), or the 750cc inline 4. I’d even take the detuned gsxs750 version as it’s still good for 100 ponies at the rear wheel. 83hp is going to feel slow pulling hard up a hill like I do every Sunday morning.

I was going to say I would pay the extra for the fairings. I'm not a Yamaha fan. Rather, be stuck to a 200 cc GSXR, then ride anything by Yamaha. I currently ride a 2008 Harley Fatboy. While saving up for a Suzuki.

Suzuki is just a better road bike. Suzuki keeps it real. I would definitely choose this version. Naked bikes are butt tuggly, IMHO
The GSX8R is way nicer looking then the naked version. and I will always take having a fairing over a naked with the wind hammering you at anything over legal highway speeds.
This new Suzuki 800 engine is a beast. It feels like it has way more than 83hp. Power is always there, ready to be used as long as you're alove 3k rpm.
The Vstrom 800 is using this motor so watch some reviews on it for an idea about power delivery. (All the reviewers love this motor)
81 HP? 57 lb ft of torque? My 2024 Triumph Street Triple RS pumps out 128 HP and 59 lb ft of torque. Suzuki needs to step their game up.
Yours is also an ugly pos. It isn't always about hp and torque. You aren't a track rider. Sit down.

This is what I like about you Cruza. You give your honest opinions and at the same time you even say that you are bias to yamaha. I am too. Pretty sure I'll be getting the 2024😮 model mt10. I've been looking at the tracer 9gt plus also. Haven't even been on a bike in over 45 years. I read an article yesterday from yamaha saying that the mt10 is returning unchanged from the 2023 models. I was really hoping to see a little larger tft on the 24 model. 🤞

Why is it impossible to make a naked/street bike with a seat height under 30 inches?
Cruza, you use to be a Honda guy. Anyway I like the Suzuki GSX-8R better than the R7. It's more upright than the R7 and it's a better looking bike to me. Before this came out I was considering the Honda CBR650-R and still am, for two reasons: 4 cylinders instead of two and the more upright postion. Suzuki has finally caught on to the idea like Honda, that in my opinion, most people want a sport bike fully faired without the super low handle bars. Unless your a track dude it's a waste of money. This is one reason I miss my 2018 CBR500R. Man that was a pretty bike but also so fun and comfortable to ride.

I think these “no rides” have an advantage too. Riding skill, style, and preference biases are eliminated.

I'd like it if CC actually put his butt on a bunch of newer bikes with demo rides. I've done well over 60 bikes over the years on demo rides. That's how you get a well rounded opinion of things, rather than just repeating spec sheets and what other people say.

I actually ended up getting a daytona 660 instead because I liked it more, but that also has the option of a lower seat so you may want to explore that option as well. Especially because the two are so similar in price

Its does not compete with R7, the R7 is stripped back sports, this is sports touring.
Don’t compare it to the r7 it’s seating position isn’t the same more like a 650

I'm pretty sure the Yamaha R9 will be the better bike once it hits the market, whenever that'll be. I honestly like the looks of the 8R, but that headlight isn't doing it for me.

Except theyre bringing out a ugly retro XSR 900 GP instead of the R9. Its just looks old, bulky and weird. If done right the R9 could of been an amazing bike, but I bet they would probably cheap out on it, and make it a fairinged mt09 with subpar suspension, sub par tech package, and a subpar display. Rather than doing it right and making it an actual sportbike tuned for higher revs.
@@jvillain9946The bike you're describing already exists. It's called the R1... 4 cylinders. You don't tune a bike for high revs, its a characteristic of the type of motor. We already know the R9 would use the same 3 cylinder motor as the xsr900. So around 11,000rpm rev limit.
@@TalonTSI95 yeah and it still be nice to have a super sport with a triple and several thousand cheaper than an r1. Also the rev limit is 10k on the mt09 and it's tuned for lower Rev torque. Which is why I said they should tune it for more top end on the sport bike and increase the rev limit. Since we already have an mt09, why make the same bike just with plastic, instead of making a different bike that more suitable for its style? So your comment is useless

I would hesitate to swap my Ninja 650 for this, as I have my butt comfort dialed in with aftermarket seat mods. Plus the 8R weighs 25 lbs more.
You basically won't even notice the weight. I've demo ridden the 8S bike, it feels quite lightweight, doesn't handle heavy whatsoever. The power of this 776cc twin will feel night and day stronger than your 650.... which is the lowest powered 650 in the class. Also the 270° boom will sound pretty cool after the 180° rasp.
This blows the 650 out of the water in every metric. Better sound. 25 pounds is nothing for daily riding. You're just trying to justify your current purchase and that's okay.
@@superduperkid3143 Except it's my most comfortable bike by far! (With a Corbin Gunfighter seat.) How much power do I need to commute on 101? I would be gambling on a new bike being as comfy for me. I have other bikes that blow the Suzuki out of the water already, so there's no use chasing that aspect.
@@xorbe2 You presented the initial gamble on a possible swap. We're only highlighting how it would be different. I personally have ridden the Ninja 650 (previous gen) and much more recently the 8S. While there's been incremental changes to the Ninja since it was released in 2006, they've only been evolutionary. The 8S is a whole new game.

As a bias GSX 8S owner I still think the R7 will be a better sport/track bike than the GSX 8R. Track test results I've seen the 8S easily beats an MT07 but it does so because its better suspended, has much better brakes, and is a little bit faster. R7's sportier riding position, improved suspension/brakes/tires will allow it to take advantage of its substantially lower weight making it at the very least a much easier bike to ride at the track or in the canyons (IMO).
I would put the GSX8S ahead of the R7 despite of its disadvantages that you list, simply because the 8S has traction control and the R7 does not. People who haven't owned a TC-equipped bike, and haven't leaned heavily on TC, just have no clue to the unfathomable advantage TC gives a bike. I was indifferent to TC until I got a bike that actually had TC...and it's a game changer from a performance, safety, and tire wear viewpoint. And even smaller bikes with moderate HP benefit greatly from TC; you can highside to the moon if you start opening the throttle early enough from high lean angles.
